Don't worry, girl. Learn to stretch. I did what you did, because I went nearly bald. I regretted it at first. But, now my hair is longer now then it was permed. Make your own curls. Don't do braids, too many people lose hair doing that. Trust me, I did it TWICE. I wish I knew then what I do now. I send you my video response so you will see what I mean.
@zbrobinson There is absolutely nothing wrong with braids. The problem comes when people braid too tightly and/or don’t take care of their hair in braids. I’m on my third set of yarn braids that I did myself and my hair has been growing just fine in them.
@jackalo34 I haven't put in braids (except for my own hair). I just know that there is a medical condition called traction alopecia which is a form of alopecia, or gradual hair loss, caused primarily by pulling being applied to the hair. Doctors are saying their main clients for this particular condition are black women wearing fake braids. I have friends who have it. I'm not saying there's anything wrong with braids. I'm just saying there are other ways besides braids.
@zbrobinson Ah I see. Yea, I’ve heard of it as well. It’s mainly people who get braids consistently without letting their hair rest in between AND have the braids pulling very very tightly at their edges. I’ve seen it…it’s unsettling. When I put my braids in, they tend to be pretty lose around my edges to avoid just that.
I agree that transitioning is a good way to go natural. I didn’t, because I didn’t have the time to deal with taking hair of longer hair and I’d never had short hair b4. If you LOVE long hair, you definitely should not big chop. I love my hair-I’ve been natural for 6 months and I’m at the awkward in-between stage. I just rock a wash and go, yarn braids, or a mini puff and I love it. Besides, I’m in university so low maintenance is def a plus!
