Little sad. This is why I fear getting sober, dumbasses like me saying he did it better loaded. True though, when he was scared and stoned recording on a 4 -track in westfield it had more heart, more soul, than any of this.
If you can find it, pick up the freed man, the freed weed, or weed forestin. One of them is a collection of the other two and well worth any cd shipping charges. The man was a genius in the day.
When I saw them in Dallas some years back, the audience members kept shouting out "BRAND NEW LOVE" throughout the first half of the set. Lou, finally, got so pissed off that he launched into a super hard, fast version of the song. The entire thing was done in about 60 seconds. Not exactly what the audience was hoping for, which I assume was the smash your head version.
It was about as far as could be from this version.
I don'y know, maybe we're we're used to a lot of "extra help" with bands today. So many of them lip sync and dance and we're supposed to believe they're musicians. This is honest. It's a great song without a lot of fire-works . They just ask you to buy their T-shirt?! Nah, they're a great sound and worth a CD.
