  • 0:17 Oh, really? No internet when the computer is off. Oh, well.

  • there is a off button? mmm wonder where it is?

  • i never turn my desktop off ever since i got it and set it all up its been on for 2 years and 11 mouths.

  • @FragBase Is that kinda bad for it?

  • I have a desktop that pretty much stays on all the time... I really only turn the screen off..

If I had a laptop, I imagine I'd probably shut it down more often. Or Hibernate. Who knows.

  • if you change your power plan then your performance go's down a lot

  • I too turn mine off when I go to bed. It's on for maybe 7 hours max a day...

  • i put my computer to sleep during the day because as soon as i turn it of, im gonna need it again, then i put it on hibernate at night when im sleeping, unless im downloading something, and i turn of my computer once a month, because if the computer is on for a long time, the performance starts to decrease, but goes back to normal when i shut it off for a while

  • i turn mine off whenever i am not using it

  • 0:44

    WIN

  • I never shut mine off...

Not even sleep mode. Our local hydro-electric plant produces more power than what is actually used (only 40% of it is used? not sure anymore).

So, in my case, it does not hurt the environment. We also have /the/ cheapest electricity in the U.S.

People in other power situations that are not efficient should definitely try to save energy by putting computers to sleep/powered off, and much more.

  • Taking a dump uses alot of energy! Are you gonna tell us to quit using the bathroom, also?

  • the last time i turned mine off was for Y2K...

  • @psavela so you haven't changed comps in almost 12 years?

  • @talkron300 Thats Right...

  • I literally never turn off a computer, only restart it once in a while. It's just very convenient to access it whenever you need to, like in a middle of the night when something urgent pops or whatever.

  • I turn off mine every year.

  • I put my computer to Standby mode at night.

  • I turn off my computer every night

  • i never turn off my computer i hibernate

  • this makes no sense, i turn my comp off every night

  • I have a web server that stays on 24/7-365, and my main computer usually is kept on and full power for render tasks.

I probably use alot of energy with a running render cluster to, i don't mind at all; It matters based on your local power plant, nuclear, wind, solar, hydro are VERY clean, and i have hydro here, so this whole "this==this many cars" is pretty weak.

  • I see you're located in Canada. That's why we said in our country, the USA, where alternative power plants are not very common yet. And energy is energy, whether it comes from a computer or car. Our calculation is that of energy. Thanks for the positive support though.

  • Not meant to be negative in any way, we need to get off coal and other plants that burn fuel, and just move into a new era, even if you don't believe in global warming.

I think if you live in a region that uses coal or etc. and need a computer that stays on 24/7, you should look into efficient computers such as core's built on a 45 nm process, solid state capacitor boards, and efficient power supply's. Thank you for this video and your effort.

  • @enger123 Yup its crazy that we still use coal to get most of the power in america we are one of the greatest country in the world and we are still so ancient about the way we do things.

  • Mine is on 24/7 and 365 days a year. My computer takes for ever to turn back on.

  • Your killing it.

  • How?

  • @ShrapmaElite lol remember windows 98 lol i still think of that as, " Leave Windows on 98 percent of the time cause it takes so long to start up." lol

  • @Leethellama lol, same here! I actually wish my windows 98 computer didn't start having problems with me, because then I would have enjoyed modding it, lol. I also just got a brand new 2010 gateway nv series laptop with Windows 7 OS. Even though it only takes like 10 seconds to turn on, I still put it in standby because then it only takes 2 seconds. Press the button count to two, and you're on! :D

  • i havent turn my cpu off like a month

  • I turn off mine everytime I go to sleep.

  • @KrykoStorm no you retard. its still on... Even IF you close it. And if you actually TURN IT OFF then your a dumbass. you would have to fucking start ur computer every day when you can just open and start typing.

  • @LukeNoles

    1. U mad.

    2. I don't have a laptop, I use a desktop PC.

    3. My boot up time isn't that long and I make breakfast while it boots up.

  • @LukeNoles I don't need a laptop, it would be more of a luxury, and I have other things to spend my money on then that.

  • @KrykoStorm wow. desktops cost more. your fucking dumb.

  • @LukeNoles That depends.. if you want equal performance for gaming and stuff a laptop would normally cost more..

  • i never turn off mine i hibernate

  • The real question is how long is your computer turned off for. I turn mine off maybe every 5 days, but only for like 5 minutes

  • Cool!
