Every guitar made has it's own personality. They just colour the sound plane in their own unique way and not matter how extravagant and pricey, or cheap and common, someone out there just knows how to make them all seem like a million dollars. Very well done. My wife brought home her old stella ('58) and I restrung it. Tuners need replacing, but such a unique sound, like a uke with depth.
@TheGilleyShow I love the way mine plays, the only thing is that is that you want to make sure it plays how you want as I don't think the guitars are very adjustable!
I NEED HELP,,,I WANT TO LEARN THIS,,,WOULD PLEASE ANYONE HELP ME,,,THIS IS A FUCKING CLASSIC,,,WE SHOULD ALL LEARN TO PLAY THIS IF YOU PLAY THE GUITAR,,,IF NOT,,,DIEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!
That's a very cool rendition. It has the sound of gittar authenticity, yet very clean. Cool that you can get that out of the Stella.
I hope to record my version for you. I used to play a duet with my partner in the '70s that was pretty faithful to Laibman/Schoenberg's, now I have a solo version that Andy Cohen helped me with. Had a chance to play it duet with Mary Flower in the student concert at Swananoa Gathering guitar week a couple of weeks ago.
I have a late '60s Stella just like that. I found it in an attic and got it for free. Didn't ecpect more than just a neat looking guitar to hang on the wall, but I love playing it! It sounds decent, even with 35+ year-old strings on it! Great playing, by the way!
Seems like you dug deep in the ground and found a little treasure with this song :)
Great playing, but seriously, if you like old guitars, you deserve a better guitar than an old Harmony Stella. The market is flooded and I believe you deserve one of the old, quality brands.
Thanks for the message - one of these days I'm going to get a REAL Stella from my pal Neil (stellaguitars dot com), but that'll have to wait until my cash flow increases a bit!
Mr. Harpe have a great site and collection going there. Sometimes I enjoy just listening to the sound samples he plays - they sound and feel authentic. Good luck!
hey man what guage do you use for that? i think i got medium on mines cuz the guy said its recommended for the 3/4 size but the action seems high with the mediums. any suggestion?
i generally use mediums but on this guitar i put only light gauge since it's a beat up old hunk of plywood that probably would have trouble with a higher gauge...not to mention there's no truss rod or anything...you might need to shave the bridge down or put a smaller nut in??
yeah man.. thanks alot. i've been wanting to go with the lighter gauges for a while. the guitar sounds great, just that its really old and i dont think the neck can handle them heavier gauges. Great playing btw. you do this all by ear?
That picked every heart string. I've heard most of your other stuff as well, your a great solo guitarist, you should get into some of Lightnin' Hopkins work, I think you would give a great version of "Jake Head Boogie".
Ah, that was very enjoyable! I liked the Spanish flair too. I agree with the MULE. Let's hear the lyrics in Swedish, or how about this, one verse Swedish, and another in English!!??
Temtation Rag arranged by a Swedish ragtime guitar player Tom Thomason. Didn't know that, but if I listen carefully it's some influence of Swedish Folklore, some Classical and the rest US of course.

i had same guitar!!!

Superb. I've never heard of Henry Lodge but I think he must have liked classical because it does sound "mediaeval minstrel" in parts.

A hell of a lot of rags are the same ol' thing, much as I enjoy ragtime. Frankly I found this refreshing, not to mention well-played.

Great one, I have come across some of his other arrangements and they are top notch, well played :-)

He's got to be the best player that old guitar's ever had. You don't need a fancy git box to make good music. A fine musical talent.

Ya, talent and feeling is important. Corey has it as well as you. My favourite guitar players.

Interresting rag, I didn't know it.
Well played, it's very plaisant.
Is it an old guitar ?
MarcManesse 4 years ago
probably from the late 50s early 60s...it was bought for me in a pawn shop in vermont for $10!

Good find. I'll probably be looking for a decent steel string acoustic for finger picking and music reading later...

Corey, I don't write lyrics, so stay cool. One word in Swedish. Hej, meaning Hey !
Karen, idasynco, is a good friend of mine.
Take care.
