  • these are not the nerds you are looking for (droids)

  • @yourgameoverlord Hey-- isn't that Star Wars?! LOL! Thanks for watching!

  • What did you use, George? For the FX?

  • @Allen2saint The FX included matte paintings done in photoshop, transferred to Final Cut Pro as MPEGs, then combined through filters in that program. Space scenes: ships and planets, are all done in AfterEffects, although this clip is from my rough cut, and does not feature those shots here. In our final version we have completed the visual effects to this scene and about half of the FX before we post the film this year. Thanks for watching! And thanks for the question! Always happy to answer!

  • Swimming goggles guy needed that scanner to notice massive damage to the ship...maybe take the goggles off and save battery power.

  • @strohberries27 Thanks for watching! That was a funny comment! But to be fair to swimming goggle guy-- his superior did ask for a report, and as any military person will tell you-- no matter how obvious something is, you must release your findings when asked! Hope you visit my channel and watch my other Trek and non Trek films! You are always welcome my friend!

  • Massively disappointed by every aspect of this but respect for attempting to add to the legend.

  • @yunusramadan1212 Well I appreciate you watching anyway! But before you get too upset, why not check the film out when it gets posted? After all, this scene was just from the rough cut, and it's only a mere 4:24 out of a film over an hour long! I have posted two of my earlier Trek films on my channel. Why not check them out and see if you enjoy them as this new movie is the third one in my trilogy. I Appreciate your comments! I hope you find one of my films more enjoyable the next time you look!

  • great work !!! speaking as a fan from way back, its great to the fan do their take on trek.

  • @kain91939 Welcome to my channel! And thanks for watching! It means a lot to this filmmaker!

  • Good stuff! Nice to see how real fans are keeping the dream alive.

  • @kb7rky Yes indeed! Thank you so much for watching!

  • @xaospromike What damages Trek fans is nasty, obsessive comments by people like you who never bother to create anything, but who feel compelled to insult those who do. You have absolutely no understanding of the true spirit that animates the Star Trek universe, but the guy who made this clip certainly does. Try exercising a small amount of tolerence and you may just find your small life becomes much happier.

  • @SophiaOmni Much love and appreciation for the support! It nice to know somebody understands the cost of creativity and people like myself who only want to entertain people!

  • The losers who have complaints about the minor issues in this sneak peek should stop their bitching and try to make their own damn film. It's typical of pathetic nerds to feel violated when their own vision of the Star Trek universe is challenged. You should be congratulated for making the effort to do something original. I'd rather watch your stuff than J.J. Abrams schlock any day of the week. At least I can tell that you really love ST.

  • @SophiaOmni Your words of understanding mean an awful lot to this filmmaker! Thank you!

  • Really wonderful effort. You've really made me feel as though I was on an alien world. Nice work, buddy!

  • @lancebdowd2 Thanks for your compliments! Much appreciated!

  • Thanks for sharing this with us, Mr. Kayaian! Very fascinating (as Spock would say)!

  • @Oddyellano Much humble gratitude! Thanks so much for watching!

  • Looks fun. I appreciate that you put it outside and used some fun FX.

  • @Allen2saint Thank you so much! I felt this scene added scope to our movie! So often, Star Trek takes place with interior scenes. I also loved being outdoors, even though it was very cold and snowing! We actually were in a small public park, so I had to create the illusion of a vast snow planet. It was tricky-- lots of people were around. But the final version of this scene is now even better! (This post was from my rough cut.) Thanks again for watching!

  • Good job looks good

  • @lloydi Much love and gratitude! Thanks for watching!

  • @GeorgeKayaian your welcome u did a better job then I ever could to prove iI have a star trek eo on my channel hav look for a extra boost yours blows the socks off mine lol

  • @lloydi I watched your Star Trek parody! It was cool! I thought it was quite clever, and funny as well. I say-- make more of them, my friend! And please visit my channel again! You are always welcome!

  • @GeorgeKayaian ahhhh thank you I have subd to you so I'll be watching you lol and more of them I think I can do that

  • Lol Good job

  • @justinok67 Thank you so much! I needed someone to say something positive! You wouldn't believe the hate comments I had to delete! Much appreciation for watching!

  • @GeorgeKayaian IKR? Not all of us can do TV quality videos.

  • @justinok67 I would say you certainly can based on your channel's postings! Some really cool animation my friend! Thanks for your understanding and support! You have mine, that's for sure!

  • That's not a computer log, it's a small vacuum for getting the junk out of computer keyboards, and runs on 2 AA batteries. I have one in a computer tool kit. LOL.

  • @pathosbedlam Of course you are right! I am amazed how accurate you were! Of course, even in Star Trek II: Wrath of Khan, they used plastic sunglasses racks for Reliant bridge detailing, and under-carpet padding for the interior of the turbolifts on the Enterprise! So I'm in good company when it comes to re-purposing materials! But full marks to you! Thanks for watching! LOL!

  • @GeorgeKayaian No worries, it's an OK effort for non-professionals. Some of the effects were pretty good. As long as you keep trying you have already won.

  • @pathosbedlam Much appreciation! Please visit us again... I'd love to hear what you think about my other Trek films!

  • the guy with his mouth open looks like the man in the chair in the first THE THING movie from '82'. Come on guys

  • @fhoneman I have to give you a thumbs up! You are correct, it was put in as a kind of homage/joke as the Thing is one of my favorite movies! However, let me reassure you, as stated above, the visual effects are not complete, and this moment is a temporary matte painting that will be similar, but more complete when the finished film comes out. Thanks for watching my sharp-eyed friend!

  • AWWW! I was just getting in to it and it ended. Good show.

  • @supressorgrid Much appreciation for your kind comments. Final Darkness is the third movie in my Trek trilogy... the other two (The Infinite Chain and Incident at Beta 9 are posted already) if you want more of this Star Trek story. Can't thank you enough! Please visit us again!

  • well done very well done

  • @ytbigjim Thank you very much! I can't tell you how much it's appreciated!

  • I go swimming in those goggles lol

  • @markm237 And now you know you can survive on an ice planet with them as well! LOL

  • Those pool goggles really sell it dude. In todays economic meltdown that is exactly what they will give to future astronauts. Thumbs up for super-duper reality.

  • @Briar5559 Finally! Somebody who recognizes the consequences! LOL! Thanks for the laugh and your comments. I appreciate it!

  • really should have taken the "thinsulate" tags off your gloves....

  • @RoseBunneh Oh man! You got me there! The devil is in the details as they say... good catch! Now I have to hire ILM to CGI the tags away...this is gonna cost me a fortune! LOL

Thanks for watching and the heads up!

  • not bad, not bad at all. Captured the "feel", without relying on special effects.

  • @benbalooky Much thanks for your kind words! It's really tricky pulling off Trek without any budget... and still make it entertaining, you know? I hope when you get the chance, you'll check out all our Star Trek films. You can find them on my YouTube channel already. Thanks again for watching!

  • Not Bad At all - pitty those many tracks in the snow; no way to prevent that - may you need to order 50Tons of fresh snow :D - order now at Snow-R-us

  • @herauthon Thank you very much! This was from the rough cut, and some of the more problematic elements have been either fixed or explained. I hope you'll return when we post the movie and see the final version of this scene as well as the full story. BTW- do you have the number for Snow-R-Us? LOL

  • I love "cheapies" when they try....awaiting film.

  • @bryanttillman Thanks for watching! I hope you'll enjoy the film when it comes out. On my channel I also have 2 trailers to the film if you want to see a little more from it.

  • My only complaint is that your costumes are shit.

  • @venusbrain Well, maybe you'll like the starfleet uniforms better when you see the movie. Either way, thanks for watching!

  • hey that wasn't half bad! Dialogue could've been tightened and made a bit more interesting, but the script, acting, and even the effects weren't as corny as I'd expect from a fan film. Also, something about the aesthetics of this clip made me feel like I was watching the Original Series... in a good way. I think it was the Christmas lights at the 2:50 mark. Should be a fun movie!

  • @CandyCinema Thank you for watching. I hope if you enjoyed this clip from our rough cut, you'll really enjoy the final version of the film when it comes out! But in the meantime, much appreciation for your kind words.

  • Good job, nice quality, I enjoyed watching it.

  • @SuperBenjy12 Much appreciated! Thank you so much for your kind comments and watching our sneak peek!

  • Good job, guys

  • @lekocafe Thank you for watching! Much appreciated!

  • I was about to write "ok, 2 more added to my hit list 8-x" but after seeing all the nice and friendly comments I guess i'll keep my comments to myself.

  • @jaymorpheus11 That was very decent of you! Can I still thank you for watching?

  • good job guys!

  • @StudioOAS Thank you very much!

  • This look really good. Yes the audio needs fixing the music shouldn't blow you out of your seat. :)

But all in all, it looks good. I'd like to see more. Thanks for posting, and all your hard work.

  • @kaiyoshi2243 I appreciate your comments very much! Yes, this scene was from my rough cut, and now that I'm on the final cut of the film, has much improved and is audio-balanced, etc. My sincere gratitude for watching and being supportive. Us no-budget filmmakers need all the love we can get!

  • a pair of swimming goggles in the snow 500 years from now ...speedo would be proud of their prodyct ,,,durable lol

  • @reksub10 LOL!!! Your comment made my day! I agree... now if only I had stock in speedo.... hmmm.... Thanks for watching my friend!

  • @GeorgeKayaian i must say it was a very well made vid though i loved it

  • @reksub10 You made this filmmaker's day. It makes all the hard work worthwhile when there are really wonderful people who understand and support creativity. Much thanks.

  • in my opinion it may not be perfect but its great. its ppl like you that keep trek alive and for this i thank you. And to all the haters, just take a look at the metal gear solid film it was made very low budget and very few cast and crew. So dont go hating on people's work just because it doest look like J J Abrams reboot piece of s**t. I bet if you look at the original star trek you didnt see it was just like this. and to the creator keep doing it its your vision and it looks good.

  • @ghostdog854 I am honored by your wisdom and kind words. I hope you will return to see the final product... for you are the audience I most want to entertain! Much thanks and appreciation.

  • Go with your dream guys....good work ignore the haters they are the dregs of jealousy and intolerance....I like what your doing!

  • @SMPghostman What can I say; but a heartfelt THANK YOU! Much love and gratitude for your kind words and support!

  • @xaospromike I think Gene Roddenberry would be be sad by your comments. Star Trek lives because we love it, and love to play in the wonderful universe he created. You are entitled not to like it, but making an absolute judgment is elitist, and against the point of the IDIC philosophy of Trek itself. There is room for all kinds of creativity, and I've been fortunate to have my Trek films liked far more than hated by people like yourself. But thanks for watching anyway.

  • Interesting idea. Only true Trekkies (or Trekkers if you prefer) would actually do this. Keep it up! :)

  • @flobogirl6 Thank you for the kind words and support. I am amazed how much hatred gets thrown my way for just trying to be creative! Your support gives me the strength to carry on, knowing there are good people like you out there who appreciate all the hard work, and just like to be entertained! Much thanks and gratitude!

  • @flobogirl6 Thanks for your kind words of support. Much appreciated! You are welcome to my channel anytime!

  • The acting is a little off, but to be honest it looks great. I will keep an eye out for when its finished for sure. Also to take the time to make something like is (well done you), so many people will VOTE it down yet they couldnt do it. So thumbs up from me ;)

  • @jimmypop1222 Thank you for your kind words! It's intelligent people like yourself that I make these films for! This was posted from my "rough cut" to get the feel of the scene, you know? I'm working on the final cut of the film currently. This scene is now tighter, there are some new visual effects and dialogue in place-- it's a lot better overall. I hope to be posting the real finished film soon. Thanks again!

  • Its a test scene. Pace is good, two cameras I suspect.

  • @blindandwatching Full marks to you! This was posted from my "rough cut" to get the feel of the scene, you know? I'm working on the final cut of the film currently. Believe it or not, I shot the whole sequence with one camera on my SONY Mini DV. This scene was indeed a test, but I found a logical place for it during my final visual assembly, as a necessary plot-advancement moment. The finished film will be posted soon. Thanks for watching! I really appreciate it!

  • @GeorgeKayaian

sry friend. just make your thing. :)

    nice hobby...

  • @MrDreamcatcher8 It's all good! You made my day! Much appreciated!

  • Not bad at all. I tell I just dont have the time to do something like this. Would love too though.

  • @takaris7 Thank you so much! And I for one, would love to see someone like you, make your own film as well! Much appreciation for your comments! The finished movie should be out this year finally!

  • First, I believe it takes a great love and passion for a series to want to continue the story that was started all those years ago. It appears that is what you do have for Star Trek, Now second, for anyone who wishes to have a negative feedback, I say this, What have you done and why are we not watching it or reading it now? You guys are doing a great job, keep up your love and passion for this great television series.

  • @marinegny70 A million thanks! Your comments keep me going and reminds me that there is an audience out there intelligent enough to appreciate a fan film and all the work that goes into it! You made my day. Much appreciated!

  • Comment removed

  • @MrDreamcatcher8 That was pretty funny! However, in this scene, neither myself, nor my Dad, are present. I have to say though, making a definitive negative comment, based on an unfinished scene, is rather presumptive. What's wrong with a little creativity?

  • PLEASE UPLOAD FULL VERSION ....... !!

  • @henndri Thanks for that kind request! I assure you I am hard at work getting the film finished, and it should be out relatively soon! Stay tuned for updates my friend! And many thanks!

  • Good God! Where is my eye-bleach?

  • @jbishopster1 As an artist, it is very gratifying whenever the work gets a reaction. Although yours seems a little extreme! Risking the wonder of eyesight for a fan film is perhaps the highest compliment there could be, and I thank you for it!

  • I hear nerd voices...not dead people.

  • @humorU2 It's true... we are alive and well!

  • looks good i can't wait for the final production i'm sure this will be a good fan film

  • @englishdragon88 Thank you very much! I hope to release the film soon! In the meantime, if you get the chance, check out my other two trek films: Star Trek: The Infinite Chain and Star Trek: Incident At Beta 9. Live long and prosper my friend! And thanks again for your kind words!

  • Dialogue a little awkward. Mostly too indicative. "I'll take latinum any day." would mark them for mercs as easily as "We're not Federation, we just work for them these on special occasions."

Nice Job though. Be interested to see the finished production.

  • @Dinuial Thanks for watching. I totally agree with you, and as a matter of fact, the final scene has different dialogue VERY close to what you wrote! It shows that Trek minds think alike! I didn't want to post the final version, with the final visual effects and dialogue, etc... I'm saving it when we post the actual film! Happy holidays and thanks again!

  • Given the resources you had to work with (no funding at all!), this is an amazing achievement! You've created a very credible alien world--at least a good, if not better, than anything you'd see on classic Start Trek. I wonder if those who are nit-picking about minor issues have ever tried to make their own Trek film (I'm sure they haven't).

I can't wait to see the finished product!

  • @SophiaOmni My sincerest thanks! It's hard to be criticized when all you want to do is make a fan film and share it with others! Much appreciation for your kind words. It means so much to be appreciated for one's efforts! Happy holidays!

  • By visual do you mean like a stryfoam asteroid or some such or modelwork or do you mean just straight CG

  • @gingerspark1 At this stage of our production, we're looking at just CG work. But, maybe for future films, we could use your talents in the prop area! Stay in touch my friend, and happy holidays!

  • I would be glad to help., I am always looking for things to turn into other stuff. I can take a xbox 360 or PS3 game case and with about 20 bucks have you a hand held "PADD" like device with light up screen and blinkies., Not to mention these bike locks I found that attach to each other it looks like a usb port and cable in anything.

  • @gingerspark1 Sounds awesome! I admire your skills! At this point, all our live-action scenes have been completed. But if you can do things in post, like space scenes, or after-effect shots with live action, we can certainly welcome you aboard! And naturally, if we ever make another trek film, you'll be the one for the props! But we need to complete visual effects at this point. I could use somebody's help in this area if they can do it. Let me know your other skills outside of props my friend!

  • 7. Anyway if you want some help let me know. I am a prop guy and an electrician. plus I like SFX

  • @gingerspark1 I appreciate the offer. I may take you up on it. It's always nice to work with new and talented people! We still have a lot of visual work to still get through! Do you work at all in the "After Effects" program? Let me know!

  • 4.The library access sound FX was wasted, as there was no clue what was happening.

    5. The safety goggles urrrgghh! You could at least redeem them by instead of having the wideshot reveal have the ship reflected in the goggles and then the actor pans his head showing it in reflection then the wide angle.

    6. the tracks in the snow. you should have or did it looks like shot on sand and then added the snow in post.

  • @gingerspark1 5) I think you have a good point, although you are judging this video as if it's a finished product, not a work in progress. But I think what you mentioned is a great idea. 6) We did shoot in the snow! Believe me, it was a very cold and windy day in the snow. My actors were quite freezing. Me too. There are some matte elements, such as mountains added, etc, since Long Island doesn't have any.

  • Okay:

    1. Exposition much?

    2. Why say 'the ship has sustained damage when it is obvious from looking at it 12 feet in front of them?

3.Why are you using an emergency flashlight as a tricorder or scanner? Found props are best used not for what they look like but what they could be.

  • @gingerspark1 First: Thanks for watching! The answers: 1) Dialogue was to indicate that these guys are not Federation, but hired scavengers. 2) The line was just to confirm that this ship was unsalvageable, although yes, you could tell that by looking at it. He was being thorough for his boss. (Wink-wink) Continued:

  • @GeorgeKayaian 2) Also the dialogue indicated that the ship was in a battle, which meant a reason for it's crashing. Remember they are looking for answers! Like any crash scene.

  • @gingerspark1 3) Time-honored tradition to use props that are other things. These are not federation, so I was free to use non-fed style equipment. Even in Wrath of Khan, the Reliant had cassette holders hanging on their walls. And the turbo lift had carpet padding interior details! 4) The sound effects are consistant with Federation equipment, and you are not supposed to fully understand what is happening at this time in the story. He removed something, then explained what it was. Continued:

  • I have to disagree with Roysten. The soundtrack is WAY more excited about what's happening onscreen than the audience is, and that calls attention to how little is actually happening. Even if you're just using placeholder music for the preview, it's too much. Swap in something less bombastic (e.g., a flute piece) so the actors can be the focus instead (they already have to compete with the special effects, after all).

  • @steveasat2 Thanks for watching. It's interesting to see how everyone reacts to our films! I understand what you're saying regarding the music, and I can see that you know the power of music (or the lack of it) in it's use. My main goal ultimately is to create onscreen what's in my head. I've always been a fan of Trek's use of powerful music, and I find it usually makes the material rise above it's no-budget origins. But your words are thought-provoking and much appreciated.

  • Take a break with the background music.

Less emphasis on your props and more with your dialogue.

Snow tracks in the background... bad move on the part of your director.

Keep at it. You'll do better.

This isn't meant to rag on you folks. oK?

    3 of 5 for effort.

  • @Vulcanscienceacademy Thanks for watching and your comments. I understand what you pointed out, and recognize you're not being unkind. I just wish to say that this is a work in progress, and that the audio, music & dialogue are not the final version. Once final visual effects are in place, then a proper edit (both visual and sound) will occur. But I really appreciate you watching! We should be posting the movie itself early next year.

  • @GeorgeKayaian Good work, chaps! Be very interested to see the edited finished product. Like the reflection on the binoculars at the beginning, nice touch. Good luck! ...and prosper...

  • @seanotoole927 Much appreciation! Thanks for your kind comments!

  • nice swimming goggles :D

  • @nbrado Clearly, they are non-federation alien world goggles. (Wink-wink) Although, I could say the characters ARE surrounded by lots of water-- it's just frozen.

  • @GeorgeKayaian hehe good stuff though very entertaining look forward to seeing the finished product

  • @nbrado Thank you very much!

  • Nice video, the music fit well and you created a nice atmosphere. For a work in progress the visual elements are coming together nicely. I agree with some of the other posters, a nice bit of suspense is definitely there.

  • @roysten712 Your comments are most appreciated! These movies are enormous labors of love, and are hard to pull off (especially on no budget!) I hope you enjoy the rest of the film when completed early next year. Once again, much thanks!

  • Wow, thank you for reminding me what a difference good actors makes. I think we too often take it for granted, since good actors are able to do it so effortlessly! The dialogue was painful in this...

  • @hackel137 I agree that good actors are a key factor, but to be fair to all involved, this is a work in progress. All elements, including audio mix, dialogue, etc. are not finalized yet. But thanks for watching and keeping an open mind.

  • WOW - incredible suspense. I've loved other fan films, but this one has a unique suspense to it. I can't wait to see the finished film. Were those tubes of some alien design I saw in the interior ship scene? Hmmm... spiral tubes - what could that mean?

  • @notfauxnooz Thank you so much for watching and commenting! We are hard at work on the film, and should be posting real soon! I look forward to hearing from you again!

  • very well done - keep up the mystery and suspense - if you keep us guessing you're on to a winner . to be honest less is more .

  • @TheJlook2000 Thanks very much! I'm currently hard at work finishing the final cut of the film, and awaiting the visual effects. It will be the third and last film in my trilogy. ("Infinite Chain" is the first one, "Incident at Beta 9" is the second one in the series.)

  • Looking forward to it, George!

  • @SirRhosis Thanks so much! I just wanted to share a little bit. This scene was taken from the rough cut, but I didn't want to post the final version yet and give too much away. I can't wait to share the final film with everybody! Let me just say a huge thank you for all your kind words and support. You'll never know how much it means to me!

  • Thanks so much. I can't wait to show you the completed film with the final sound mix and visual effects in place... but this is ok to see for a sneak preview!

  • as always, great job George
