  • @TheBaz3m that funny... I just kicked a whole through one ahaha

  • Kinda just punched through a door, good to know i can fix it.

  • i got a hole on my door because my little 12 year old sister pissed the hell out of me, and i used my baseball bat to hit the door...

  • Continued…

    4. Video doesn' t say how long for foam to dry. Mine's like rice pudding after 10 or so mins. No way to simply knife edge it off and the foam is sooo sticky-sticking to everything.

    5. The can of foam doesn't say what to use to clean it up with.

    6. Then of course there is the added problem if your door is not witch bitch white.

  • Caution: after 30-40 mins the foam does dry, like a marshmallow, but only on the outside-it's still gooey on the inside. Wait longer, still? Not sure if I should try the bondo or not, already have a headache and ringing in the ears, but remaining cavity is still too big to just spackle. Hmm, spackle not work well on the small hole w/o the bondo. No way this can be done in an hour if yr first time. Foam to dry ~ 30-50 for big hole and bondo can says it needs 20-30 before sanding.

  • Btw, the bondo is 30-40X stronger on the chemical/headache index compared to the spray foam. If I had two people I'd take the door down and place in the garage or outside if I were you. But DEFINITELY consider a whole new door for bigger holes even tho they are a 2 people job, and, as I've been told, to do it "right" w/o "Jimmying it", you should probably do a whole new frame. Not saying can't be done w/o a whole new frame, tho, for those who are skilled and exper'd. GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!!

  • Problems:

    1. Video makes it look VERY EASY. If your hole is bigger then 5X5 it will be very messy. Mine was 4X8. A big glob of foam fell right out when I did it. Try spraying the foam in 2 stages maybe? Don't let the foam come out of the hole.

    2. The COST. The supplies themselves, if you buy all of them were about $30 from Menard's on Jan 11, 2012.

    3. The SMELL. This is a deal-breaker for sure if you tend to get HA’s from chemicals, cleaners, etc.

  • Don't let the foam come out of the hole means don't let it extend out past the surface of the door (one your first spraying) when you have a big hole to fill. Which can be difficult bec it slowly cascades down due to gravity.

  • thanks i really needed this :D

  • The 6 panel Hollow core door slab in the video is $20 at Lowes or Home Depot. Why in the world you anyone spend the time to do this repair when you could buy a new one for the same price as all of the materials??

  • Yea. I guess most people that look up these vids damaged their doors in a fit of ALL CAPS WOOD RAGE!! Just kicked my bros door in with a hole the size of half my foot. The doors single sheet is made of 1/8th" shredded wood material. Yea, great american construction :/

I'm only using the foam filler, pink plaster and paint. Skipping on the resin.

  • I kicked my door now I have a hole :( that i'm trying to cover up from my parents til I go buy this stuff and fix it. Thanks for the vid!

  • lol got that same exact door punched it a few minutes ago and got a tiny hole in it don't what to do!

  • thanks ron

  • Why can't you just put spackle? Why must you put on polyester resin first? Also, since you are putting polyester resin on it, why cover it in spackle? I assume there is a good reason to go through the extra trouble of using both, I am just hoping someone can explain it to me.

  • by the time u buy all the materials, u can just buy a new door

  • Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU for posting this video!!! My door is now hole-free, and you were right - you could never even tell there was a hole there. Everything worked out great, and I had no idea how to fix my door before watching this video.

Your instructions were clear, and I had no problems following them. Again, thank you. :D

  • Do you mean a solid wood door?

  • What about wooden door? Use the same stuff to fill?

  • you have saved so many students so much money, mr hazleton. I salute you.

  • i need help i got mad about something and punched a hole in my door then my mom is telling me to fix it and i'm listing these things but whats that stuff you mix with the auto body filler and what kinda paint do i use if my door is brown

  • saved me 300 dollars at my college apartment

  • How do you fix a hole in a door that a textured finish and is the color of dark walnut?

  • I depends on the ratio of hardener to resin. A golf ball size portion of resin with a strip of hardener about an inch long should start to set up in about five to seven minutes. A couple minutes later it will probably be firm enough to cut and begin rough shaping. Temperature, humidity and age of material can all affect the set time, so keep an eye on it and keep testing for hardness.

  • About how long does it take Minwax to get rubbery?

  • Great Stuff's Gaps and Cracks version will probably work. If you can find the Big Gap Filler, it might be a bit better. Either should work. Good luck.

  • These materials are available at any home improvement center. The polyester resin is made by Bondo and Minwax (Minwax calls it High Performance Wood Filler). The foam insulation is made by Dow and is sold under the name Great Stuff.

  • @ronhazelton Thanks. Srry for asking so many questions but I want to get the right things. Is it the can that says gaps and cracks?

  • Where do I find the things that I need to fill the hole?

  • It's possible to do this with a stained door, but tricky. You'd use artists' acrylic colors (available in any art or craft store) and paint on first the background color and then the wood grain. I usually spray some sort of clear coating on top to match the sheen on the door.

  • Will this work if the door is not painted but stained?

  • I used the foam insulation and cut off the excess. I then used wood putty to even it out with the door as much as possible. I trimmed off all the excess. The insulation really helped me because the door had the beveled edge and I was able to create the edge by slicing at the insulation with a razor. I then used spackle to fill in the putty gaps and create a level surface. I used the sand paper to further mold the edge and create a flawless finish. The door took a few days to do. A+

  • Yes, quick dry putty can work. I prefer the polyester resin because it bonds strongly to wood, won't flake, chip or crack and is flexible enough to stand up to the repeated flexing caused by opening, closing and possible slamming of the door. This is why poly resin is widely widely used in auto body repair. If you buy it in an automotive supply store it's also inexpensive.

  • @ronhazelton Thanks for the video. I just used Lepage plastic wood. It's a Canadian product but i bought it at home depot. They may carry it there in the states. The hole I had to fill was a crack and a dent so i didn't need the foam. It took me about a minute to do. With the plastic wood i will not need the drywall mud either. If you can get plastic wood down there then you can skip the spackle because it sands just as easy.

  • Sounds like too much work. Quick and easy way...

    1> stuff with newspaper

2> quick dry putty over it.

3> sand and paint (the drywall putty i use dries to the same door color but you could paint it.

Why use the fiberglass filler? Unless its in an answer that gets punched in by a stopper or something on the wall behind it.

  • what happens if u dnt have

    polyester resin

  • what happens when you punch the hell out of your door

  • or for an easier job.. get fiberglass tape; place it over the hole, put some compound over it, prime it and paint it.

  • I went this is spartan to the door and now I regret it

  • he seems like a nice guy too!

  • thanks. that's what the door gets for getting in my way.. i'd do it again in a second.

  • lol this guy reminds me of AL from home improvement.

  • Dude i feel bad for these doors i mean honestly door abuse!!! it's always the cheap material hollow ones too this is the 2nd time it happened to me both because of my sister 1st time was in the morning before school when she slammed the bathroom door on me and i just wasn't in the mood so i punched the door and made a small hole but this time oh my god!!! it's like 7 inches wide yikes i should really control my anger or buy better quality doors that can withstand the Wrath of a 15 year old boy!

  • Thank you so much I got really mad at my sister smashed a hole in my wall you've saved me the cost of having to buy a new door for my parents. -_-'

  • I need one for a wooden door!

  • Stumbled - I just took notes o_o

  • helping college kids all around the world after there drunk parties the night before

  • Doesn't fast patch work on doors?

  • Thanks Ron that worked pretty good. Ingredients were a bit pricey, but cheaper than the hassle of installing a new door. :)

  • i loved punching the hole in my door

  • Both Lowe's and Home Depot carry Minwax High Performance Wood Filler which is a two-part polyester resin product. Using a particle mask anytime you're sanding is always a good idea.

  • Yes, that's true, but the real work can be fitting a new door to an existing opening (trimming, adjusting or cutting hinge mortises, lock sets, etc.) plus the painting or finishing of the entire door. Sometimes, replacing the door is a good option, at other time repairing some damage might ultimately means less work.

  • doors that look like that cost only 15 dollars at home depot

  • I just tried this today, but the resin won't dry. What should I do?

  • how bout a wood door?

  • Can I just use the foam and the spackling without the resin polymer

  • @Kingman70 USE SOME KIND OF PRIMER OR SEALER BEFORE PAINTING,or the paint wont look right!

  • Comment removed

  • @Kingman70 I saw an other video that did not use the resin polymer but after applying the foam insulation, they placed sheetrock tape over the hole. Then applied the spackling and I think only used a medium grip sand paper, rather than 100 grip. I just can't find the video I saw...

  • @jsal3 an other thing, i think the resin is necessary so that there's more of an even surface...... i was wondering this too b/c it looks like a pain but i think it's necessary....

  • sister broke my laptop so i broke her door.... now i have to fix it hope this works

  • @sk84life654 ROFL

  • i think i used to watch this show at 4 am on like pbs and shit

  • It should work. You may need two applications.

  • @ronhazelton I puched a dent about 2 inches wide. -.-' Is it ok to just use Wood Filler, Sand it, Prime it and then Paint over it? Cuz Im not really bothered about doing the polyester resin stuff.

  • i kicked a hole in my door now i gotta fix it.. does this same method of repair work when the hole is on both sides???meaning i punched right through the door.. anybody know??

  • valentines day, punched my door haha. yup

  • I just punched a hole in my door like a jackass. I'm going to use this method to fix. It seems like it'll work great.

  • Need:

    -utility knife

-crumpled paper to fill bottom of hole

    -aerosol foam insulation (low-expansion type)

    -sharp knife to trim excess

-polyester resin (auto body filler) (get resin + catalyst)

-medium putty knife to fill resin

    -100-grip sand-paper

-large putty knife, size of hole

    -paintbrush & paint

  • @MeKristeen you forgot spackle ;)

  • @MeKristeen dont forget joint compound!

  • @MeKristeen thank youuu

  • @MeKristeen and joint compound

  • been doing this 4 years /works on drywall also.

  • its a great idea thanks mr rooooon

  • Thanks.

  • OMG THANK YOU

  • lots of people punching doors in anger! I kicked mine...

  • dude your not alone, i did the exact same thing!

  • I just bought a replacement door, but it's 1/4" too wide and 3/4" too tall. I'm going back to the store and get the materials to attempt your repair suggestion. If it works, you'll be my life saver!

  • Is there something else that I can do to fix the hole in the door quickly? I am just a young girl (college student) who don't have much tools. Can i just use white out as paint....

  • I switched out my mother's door with one in the guest room, before she knew I punched a hole in hers. For 3 days I was nervous until I saw this video.

    Thank Buddha

  • 5/5 i just have to pull it off

  • lmao thats what happened to me to i got angry and messed up my door 2 lol

  • @FlexFuel418951 lol same here except my hole is much bigger -_-

  • If I recall correctly, that's pretty much what happened with this homeowner, too.

  • This saved my ass. I was angry one night and took my anger out on my door
