Ray Winstone, brilliant! Ordinary down to earth guy, no Hollywood ego. Love hearing his London accent, reminds me of home. Thanks for posting these, first chance to see them as I am about to watch the film again.
sbrook zemeckis didnt actually adapt the beowulf epic he uses his own vision of how beowulf was from the story. if u ever read the original u would know that beowulf was not like the one in the movie... not even close actually maybe only the part that hes good at fighting is
ok i've always admired zemeckis as a director, but when he described what his vision for Beowulf is, i was like WTF! i mean, eating, drinking, killing and sex! i thought this was a robert zemeckis film not a michael bay film.
Not really, Tom Hanks played 5 parts in The Polar Express, including the lead role of the kid (except the voice).
It's about the ability to emote. Since the actor's performance is captured, there's no reason it cannot be applied to a character that looks nothing like the actor.
In Beowulf, I know of at least one actress who played 3 parts.
Andy Serkis played Gollum and King Kong and looks like neither...
In that case you could have used a cheaper stuntman for Ancient-Action-Hero-Beowulf and let Ray Winstone only voice, maybe mimic him.
Gollum is a different case, he has such an odd animalistic personality that you cant possibly create him only with computer. You need a good actor to perform adequate gestures and facial expressions.
In case of King Kong. Well I guess Serkis was used because he excactly knew what PJ wanted.
This must be hell for the actors, because usually sets help them get into character. In this case, all they have is a suit of electro dots, and machinery. These guys are true actors. The finishing product is interesting though.
That's exactly why James Cameron's approach is so cool. It gives the actor the sets back, via a realtime tracking system that feeds to their headset a 3D view of the virtual set - and the other actor "in makeup".
Plus, they don't need to wear those silly dots on their faces.
It did, but it's worth every penny because it allows the actor more freedom and any actor will tell you having a location/character to react to and act off of is much preferred over acting by yourself on a large stage wearing dots all over your face.
They use this technology called Motion Capture or Performance capture. Other movies made using Motion Capture include The Polar Express,Monster House, Happy feet etc. Steven Spielberg and Peter Jackson's upcoming TINTIN will use this technology. James Cameron's AVATAR also uses Motion Capture.

oh really? That must have been a huge adventure for them then!
But it also must have cost loads of Dollars to let them have the view
