Sometimes they do recycle their own songs - they take a used chord progression, put a new melody and lyrics over them and most ppl don't notice

I've been a huge fan of the offspring since 1994 - I cling to the hope that they will rise from the ashes (rise and fall was a horrible album... this band has been my favorite for 16 years but that album was AWFUL) and give us another classic - if not, I think I'll give up waiting. :/ and I know I speak for countless other fans of the OLD offspring - please don't let us down!

I guess it's just not easy for some of the long-time fans such as myself to accept that they are going in another direction with their music, becoming more soft and "main stream", so to speak. I won't say yay nor nay until I've heard the new album, but I'm not expecting much.

I've noticed something about The Offspring. Hear me out. One technique to songwriting is to write lyrics to an established song, then alter here, change a thing there, and then change up the rhythm and chord progressions a bit. I feel that with many Offspring songs, you can hear what Dexter was listening to when he wrote it. I don't notice it nearly as much as with any other of my favorite bands, but then again, I don't know many bands like the back of my hand as I do the Offspring.

It's good, because its them. It does sound A LOT like Foo Fighters. I already think this song sounds better than Times Like These but you can't say that they don't sound extremely similar.

I do wish that they'd take the next album back to their roots for a grittier Smash or Ixnay sound, and they still may well do that (Hell, I'd be happy with something similar to Conspiracy of One) but the fact is, it's their music.
