  • The 'new' google images is awful and so is the forced auto-suggestion for everyone. When is Google going to start listening to people?

  • the new image search is a huge step backwards. not allowing users to save a setting to switch to the basic version is ridiculous.

i'm switching over to duckduckgo, and i highly recommend it.

  • @goombapatrol054 Did you know that if you scroll down to the bottom of the image results, there's an option to "Switch to the basic version"? Check it out!

  • @agentkfee i've seen the button, but not only does the setting not stick, but in 'basic' the links still behave the same way (they don't take you directly to the image source)

  • @goombapatrol054 Try clearing your cache and cookies and then clicking that button again. That should help your preferences to stick.

  • @agentkfee nope, didn't work.

however, i figured out another solution. in about:config, i cleared the value of general.useragent.extra.firefox .

  • @goombapatrol054 Glad to know you found an answer!

  • the new google image search sucks cock

now stick these up you asses ┌∩┐(◕_◕)┌∩┐

  • Oh, yeah. Another thing is that you can scroll with the Up and Down directional keys. Google Images does it rigidly while Bing Images scrolls. The latter which you would be able to see images fully better.

  • I may even move to Bing altogether for search instead of your Google Search, Dailymotion for videos instead of your YouTube and even IE or Firefox for web browing instead of your Chrome browser. All of which have problems caused by yourself and these are suitable alternatives. You have failed yourself, Google.

  • You have ruined another product of yours by yourself. I have already switched to Bing Images because it has what you do not have or had before.

  • This can be resolved by the PgUp and PgDown keys but with no details on the images, why bother? So, thank you, Screwgle.

  • The new Google Images is distrastous. It isn't new anymore since it has stayed for over 6 months now. The images look cluttered together with no alignment. There is nothing to seperate them from like lines in between, which help. Removing the details of the images is a bad move.

  • FUCK the new image search!!

  • Why the hell do you need to serve us TWO previews of the damned image?! Bad enough you have the "mouseover" thingie pop up; we have to put up with a SECOND preview overlay the content page we ACTUALLY want to see.

Have mercy on those who are on dialup -- give us the OPTION to COMPLETELY turn off your crappy, it-wasn't-broke-but-you-fixed-it-anyway version.

    PLEASE!!!

  • to google, take some fucking advice please, for everything you change please have the decency to add an option to switch it on or off, it so simple how could you not see that people wan't google to be customizable. not just what u think is best for them.

  • The new image search is garbage, and I'm someone who spends huge amounts of my day searching images as part of my job. At the very least, you should let us opt out of this crap and go back to the way things were before, and no, the "revert to classic" link isn't sufficient, as you have to wait for a bajillion results to load to get to it, then it doesn't change anything for the next search.

  • I would just like to add my discontent to the growing list here. I have been a huge fan of Google services for years. And for the most part, I still am. But this new layout is something I honestly can't stand. It just looks like a cluttered mess. I can tolerate the result of clicking an image, although I'd honestly prefer the old frame style used there too. I am truly shocked that they pushed this new format on us without hardly a thought, and hope they make it an *option* soon, not the default.

  • I am so SICK AND TIRED of this AWFUL new image search!!

Allow me to keep the image search that worked so well, this one SUCKS!

No one likes it, can't you figure that out?!

The new image search is unorganized and difficult to muddle through, you might as well dump a box of old photos on my desk and then tell me to have fun digging through them...

I am SO DONE with google if this continues!

  • if(window.location.href.indexOf('&sout=1')==-1) window.location.href=window.location.href+'&sout=1';

  • Man, I'm sick and tired of typing in &sout=1 at the end of the URL for a Google Images search elsewhere (While I have the good old layout bookmarked by a result.).

Google, if you're reading this, do us all a favour by ditching this needlessly inferior new layout since it's slow, cluttered and inconvenient.

  • internet connection, taking ages to load. At the very least you could provide users with the option to switch it back. Else I'm changing and I don't think I'll be the only one.

  • Google, for the love of God please revert to Old Google Images. I don't understand why you keep trying to fix or improve things that nobody wants fixed or improved. Simplistic presentation of information is what made Google what it is. Now you're trying to make everything "2.0" just for the hell of it, or play "catch up," with Bing -- a competitor that nobody likes or uses. It makes no sense and will only drive people to newer, simpler, services. Loading 1000s of images is also bad for my

  • Please please Google provide a means to save the Basic Search Version, this new version is really bad UI and does not work for me at all. The new way of displaying the 'highlighted' image on the page is horrible, I know have to close this window 99.9% of the time. Why change something that worked??

  • the new google image search sucks, switch back to the old one permanently. why are their so many idiots at google who had to ruin a good thing?

  • PLEASE! Bring us back the old image screen. The download time is awful, clicking around is not appreciated, nor is OK to have a whole webpage downloading every time you want to look at the picture.

  • i cant get the new google images, everytime i go to google images its the old version, and i havent changed it back or anything..why why?? i want new version!! help!! thanks.

  • i'm not a fan of the new image search but Google definitely doesn't suck

  • I discovered an easier way how to get the old version of Google Images. Instead of scrolling all the way done to "Switch to basic version", just put in &sout=1 at the end of the URL of what you searched for in Google Images and you get the old layout.

  • Thank you so much Google for ruining yet another perfectly fine and functional feature. I don't have a slow internet connection, but the new 'improved' images is a lot slower and that bloody hovering image that you then have to click to remove is a right pain.

I'm starting to think that everything with 'new improved' badge on it these days is another way of saying "we took something out of it".

    Arghhh

  • We have to hover over each image to see the info? How is that efficient? The only inspiration that gives me, is to use Yahoo Images. Then we have Microsoft's scroll of doom. You stooges must believe information printed on scrolls is more efficient than books. I seriously doubt these awful features came from real users. What kind of constructive criticism can we give a team of deaf developers? Thank you Google for shoving Bing's interface in our faces without permanent reversal options.

  • At least the old design required less scrolling. This is a joke.

  • Nobody likes it, too slow to load, WHY HAVE YOU CHANGED IT??

  • New google images, downright bad.

  • Please change it back. The results are terrible. Get rid of the Everything Sidebar while you're at it.

  • coz google image like shit , so google no server in china......hahaha.

  • The new image search sucks. But you can also switch back to the old version.

I was pissed off when I found Google Images all m3zz3d up, but at the bottom of the screen, there's a link that allows you to switch to basic version, which is the image site in its original glory.

If only it would remember that I switched to basic and stayed there next time I use google images. It would also be great if we got the old YouTube back.

  • @pooperinpantz123 It can be idiotic to put the link to switch back to the old version on long lists. They should have it at the top or have an option to keep the old one by default as it was in fact better.

  • Please return an option for using the old format that WORKED!

  • What a pile of tosh! Old image search or GTFO

  • For laptops and netbooks the new image search is horrible; hovering and having to do extra clicks just to open the linked page is a major nuisance. This is a clear case of visual design winning out over usability and practicality.

  • @SjuSwede The new image search is horrible for any computer.

  • The only way I could be more disappointed by this UI change is if I'd be a Google stock holder.

Really a pity, because besides the way the images are presented, the search tools are excellent. Filter by color is brilliant for example. I bet the people behind the development of those tools want to lynch the UI team.

As an aside I find it... not evil but certainly not nice that there has been zero acknowledgment from Google about the nearly unanimous negative feedback about this user interface.

  • 1: Please have Option at the top to Switch back Old Version. We don't want to waste all the Bandwidth to load all photos to click the switch.

2: Please make the New page less long.

3: Please have option for us to keep old version style as Standard.

  • The new Google Images is awful. Change it back please!

If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

  • I dont know... the new search page looks better than the old one...

  • google.. why u have to change stuff that works??? "if it aint broken" .. give me an option to permanently change back..

  • How do I remove the google hover image pane. It's soo annoying, I use google image search all the time for art reference pics and the extra hover pane is absolutely annoying. I don't mind the page layout but the hover pane is horrible.

  • The new Google Images interface is just plain awful. I intensely dislike the hover-over pane they have now put up, ruining the clean interface they had before. Now it has become fussy and confusing. Instead of opening the site by clicking on an image, it only opens the image, and needs another click. And then, when you want to go back to the search results, you're confronted first with the picture again, and only then you get back. Horrible, horrible new interface.

  • Bing Bing Bing! This so called improvement sucks. If I wanted to use Bing I would go there. I want the option to keep the previous version as my default. Why should I wait for a pic to expand on the search results page before I can click it? Why do I need to have a hovering picture when I need to see the pic in its page? YOU BROKE A GREAT ITEM BY "FIXING" IT.

  • I've been using Google Image Search for years but will never use it again if you destroy it like this. It is unusable in its new format and whoever came up with this idea needs to learn how people REALLY use the Internet. At the very least give us an option to completely disable it, including that inane click-through requirement when you do click on the images. I'm all for change. But I'm not in favor of stupid, unnecessary changes. Fire somebody and put it back, please.

  • All considering, please include the option to search images with the “basic” function as a selectable preference. Despite your enthusiasm for the new image search this update is not an improvement for many reasons posted here and countless other blogs and forums. While it may be true that some users may prefer the new interface, it seems many do not. How about a little choice in the matter?

  • Ah so many people who can never get used to change..even when its for the better..

  • @CassettePlaya1 THIS is NOT for the better, moron. Google Images was fine and only needed minor changes to streamline its design. This is a crappy overhaul. This also goes to YouTube's new video page, channel 2.0 etc.

  • @BrightFutureMaker I find it hilarious when idiots insult others for absolutely no reason yet don't see their own ignorance and faults. But there was no reason to call me a moron was there?

Googles new image search engine redesign offers many benefits over the older design.

    1. More images can be seen at one time rather than having to click for a new page.

2.If I can get a good enough view from the initial preview when my mouse hovers over the image then I don't even need to bother clicking.

  • @CassettePlaya1 I was insulting at you because you like the crappy changes. Besides, only a dickhead would find something like this hilarious. Most of what Google updates sucks and we have to get use to it although we don't want to obviously. Just look at YouTube Blog's over the new channel 2.0. Literally thousands of comments had users NOT happy over the redesign and demanding the old (and better) channel back. What is fortunate and undeserving for YouTube is that this soon dies out.

  • @BrightFutureMaker But theres no reason just to insult me because of a personal preference did you see me insulting you for not liking it? No! the only thing I would insult you for is the fact you sound/seem like a total asshole who thinks their better than everyone else. And out of those people who didn't like the new YT channel redesign are they still campaigning their hatred/dislike for it? Most likely not as they have gotten over themselves and seen it is just something minor and irrelevant.

  • @CassettePlaya1 Fine but you just have bad taste in most of their upgrades like Google Images. The only thing they had improved on is the cleanness of the design and incorporating new features. Nothing else. Their UI Designers must be amateurs especially ones done for YouTube for the Channel 2.0 and new video page that officially launched on 1st April 2010, both which suck. Google mostly fix stuff that are unbroken.

  • @BrightFutureMaker 3. Overall there are a lot less clicks involved from the searching for the image to viewing it, so this makes it a lot easier and quicker for the user.

    4. The new landing page means I don't even need to view the image in full size to see everything plus I can quickly press the cross to instantly view the actual website.

    5. The new design fits the overall redesign Google has been implementing to its site for a feel of consistency.

    6. Better indexing of images

  • @CassettePlaya1 Who cares about clicks? Google Images before had nothing wrong with it. The images now look cluttered as hell as before they were neatly aligned and spaced. You now have to have your cursor on an image for information whereas before, it had the information already on.

Faggots who like stupid changes like you and Google keep persisting that normal people don't like change. Of course we would. ONLY IF IT WERE BETTER AND GENUINELY FOR THE BEST. Enough has been said.

  • @BrightFutureMaker Who cares about clicks? Well having to trawl through page after page constantly clicking from the image search to clicking on the image then full sizing it etc did get quite tedious and so less clicks is an improvement

It is for the better but people who obviously don't like change or can't get used to it always have to complain..always...but eventually you will get over it and get used to but why you have to be a holes in the first place I don't know.

  • @BrightFutureMaker 7. YouTube's redesign has also made the VOD site a lot better in terms of usability, simplicity, layout and features which is also welcomed as who wouldn't want that? Plus the YouTube Channel 2.0 overhaul isn't even that bad a little bit of a change around and much needed bug fixing but nothing to complain about really, in fact I would have preferred them to have changed it a whole lot more as I don't feel its YouTube's best feature in terms of design.

  • @CassettePlaya1 No, no and NO. Most of the changes Google do SUCK. You and the fucktards that see bad changes as improvements are vastly outnumbered by normal people who dislike them. The only thing good they have redesigned is the Google Search page and the new YouTube video player. Both which I didn't like at first but overall saw it as an improvement as the previous designs began to show their age and stuff but the others still are worse.

  • @BrightFutureMaker There you go with the name calling again really its only a redesign of a website which offers you free content and services, so get over yourself and get over it and as it really sounds like your crying about what is a really minor issue. Do you pay to use Google's services? No so I don't see what's so bad about it. There are more serious issues in the world to complain about than a website redesign and I doubt it will affect your life. Pathetic!

  • The new layout blows. It's messy, takes forever to load, and overclocks my processor. It's more difficult to quickly find what you're looking for due to the lack of.. well, pretty much ALL the information it instantly gave you before.

Great job Google, you ruined Youtube, you ruined Image Search, you ruined a couple other things I don't use from what I've heard. Are you TRYING to destroy your company as swiftly as possible? If so, it's working. I'm looking for a new search engine.

  • I agree on the security issues. I'm all for streamlining the search, but you need to treat the Internet as it is...a place full of questionable content and sites, not like you're searching your personal, safe photos on your own drive.

In addition, you're actually adding extra clicks to get to what you want, as well as adding time. I now have to hover over each image to see the metadata, AND if I click it just shows the image over the page, then I click again to get it out of the way.

  • What an absolutely horrendous decision it was to do this. This is the reason I stopped using Yahoo several years ago and went with Google.

Evidently, the new layout is terrible and it would massively concern me if Google decides to disregard what the vast majority of people are complaining about.

New layout is a mistake, but it's no biggie...IF they're not stubborn and switch it back.

  • I searched images today and got that terrible new layout (didn't they try this a couple of years ago and it sucked?). Where before you could quickly scan for image dimensions and site links, you now have to waste time hovering over images. What nut thought that was a good idea?

  • The new layout is atrocious, you have to hover in order to see the information on every single picture, Thats complete bullshit and the new overcrowding of pictures can take forever to load. The squishing together of pictures looks just sloppy, a giant visual clusterfuck . It gives me a headache just thinking about it. GOOGLE please do EVERYONE a favor and change it back or at least make it so we can keep the old version if we so choose without having to click a button every time.

  • I'd rather you told me my dog died than tell me you are sticking with the new image search.

  • The new layout/visual style is fine.

However, I was worried that all data relating to the image was now mouse-over only (which would make it useless), but the "show sizes" option partially solved that problem.

I don't see why the same option wasn't made available for the location of the image, as this is equally important to have available at a glance when looking for a usable image.

That is the reason why I'm still using the basic option. I really hope it is added before basic mode is removed.

  • The list thing is also a bad idea. It would be tedious if you had to go down through all those pages, let alone that the images would have load when you reached down too low. I also dislike how the information for an image is at the right hand side whereas it was fine at the top section and the image should be shown from its original source in a website.

  • THE NEW LAYOUT IS S H I T ! STOP MESSING WITH YOUR LAYOUTS GOOGLE, YOU'RE FUCKING UP YOUR OWN WEBSITE! EVERYONE HATES THE LAYOUTS! GIVE US BACK THE OLD GOOGLE!

  • Why are there listed, LISTED?? The pages thing with the Google logo extending its "oo"s was FINE. In fact, you made it worse by having the letters compressed and even the redesign of the corporate logo as well as made the number of the page you were black whereas it should have been red like the page you're on as it would be below the red "o" of the Google logo.

YOU NEED BETTER UI DESIGNERS, GOOGLE! VIRTUALLY NO ONE LIKES THE REDESIGNED PRODUCTS OF YOURS SO COME TO YOUR SENSES!

  • Found a solution to change it back:

Scroll all the way to the bottom of the image search. Click "Switch to basic version."

Unfortunately this does not remember the setting unless you are signed into Google. Otherwise you'll have to do this EVERY TIME you search.

  • Another inferior redesign, Google which also includes your video sharing site, YouTube's worse changes. This is a TERRIBLE redesign. I could stand your redesigned search engine and most of your other stuff but this I cannot.

Google Images was excellent before. It had the information there on each and every image without needing to put your cursor on them. They were perfectly aligned and stuff while this poor design lacks these and is definitely a mess.

  • The new Google Image Search is clunky and harder to use. Please change it back!

  • It's completely horrible. Please change it back or implement a 'swith back to older version' option. My ISP is slow and I stop at page 2 or 3 if I get lucky. I'm going to start using other image search engines (just like many other users) because I can't stand this. It hurts my eyes.

  • It sucks!!

  • New Google images is HORRIBE!!!!! As a graphic artist, this is simply nauseating!!!!

  • @butcherjonesjunkie I'm not even a graphic designer but I do know what is good or not in graphics and this new redesign is worse than the channel 2.0, YouTube new video page, Google's new logo COMBINED!

  • I just tried it on chrome and IE. They seem to have it reverted back to the original version on IE and kept the new version on chrome. Strange....

  • why are you guys so hating it? I kinda find this tile-like image search better than the original one.

  • Fucking google, always gotta destroy something that's working perfect.

  • HATE IT!

    HATE IT!HATE IT!HATE IT!HATE IT!HATE IT!HATE IT!HATE IT!HATE IT!HATE IT!HATE IT!HATE IT!HATE IT!HATE IT!HATE IT!HATE IT!HATE IT!HATE IT!HATE IT!HATE IT!HATE IT!HATE IT!HATE IT!HATE IT!HATE IT!HATE IT!HATE IT!HATE IT!HATE IT!HATE IT!HATE IT!HATE IT!HATE IT!HATE IT!HATE IT!HATE IT!HATE IT!HATE IT!HATE IT!HATE IT!HATE IT!HATE IT!HATE IT!HATE IT!HATE IT!HATE IT!HATE IT!HATE IT!HATE IT!HATE IT!HATE IT!HATE IT!HATE IT!HATE IT!

    clear enough???

  • similar to bing images search

  • JFC people, the new GIS blows chunks. Make it go away! I swear I'll start up my own image search website or go Daring Fireball if you don't make it go away.

  • 2:44 shows where this new image search belongs.

  • The new image search is horrible... the older search was vastly superior. If it ain't broke don't fix it. This crap is nearly useless and needs to be done away with, if not that at least let the change to basic version stay on.

  • @GOOGLE: This new image search sucks massive ass. Why on earth would you fix something that isn't broken, or make a "2.0" when your initial service is clean , fast, efficient and effective?!? Why on earth would i want some useless color selector? and why load a gazillion images on one page and flood my processor? Congrats you turned something intuitive into a massively complicated abomination. My advise; revert back and DONT TOUCH IT. I bet the guys at Google HQ are laughing their b*lls off

  • bla bla bla shut up B!tch!

  • The new image search sucks. It's terrible.

  • The new format is terrible - strains my eyes, I can't tell what size the resulting image is going to be, and it's inconvenient that I can't just tell what sort of website the image will take me to with a glance at the url. Plus, the 'hovering thumbnail' effect is a NIGHTMARE. Everything is slower and clunkier - it's all junked together. This is several steps backward regarding being user friendly.

  • I WANT THE OLD IMAGE SEARCH BACK!!!

When those kids are done congratulating themselves send them to Google Labs to work on something nobody cares about.

SLOW & ANNOYING is not what we want.

    Is Google "Jumping the Shark"?

    SLOW, ANNOYING

  • another vote for the old design here. What were they thinking??

  • How is this better? I think this is from kids who all got trophies even for being on the losing team.

  • Google, you improved on nothing, and ruined a good thing. Many people want speed and safety when looking for images; also info on the source and the K size of the image at a glance. Now to find the size you have to click on the image. This has slowed down my searches so much, I could scream. Plus, your new results page is an awful eyestrain and the scrolling infinitely lame. Designed by idiots.

Please give us an option to default to the old design.

  • it is ok , much better than before

  • I cant believe google decided to be more apple than usefull.

  • Goddammit google! My eyes hurt after a couple minutes of looking at images now! I know you guys don't give 2 shits about what the users want... BUT GIVE US THE OPTION TO PERMENANTLY SWITCH TO THE OLD VERSION!!!... fuckenay...

  • This is terrible. At least give us an option to set the Old Image Search as default.

  • They seem to be selling to a bunch of FLUFF clickers, anyone out there searching with/for any substance need not apply.

  • They screwed up Youtube with it, now they're starting on Google, it's called Javascript, it lags and drags like a MoFo.

  • I was using image search just as it went live. Pisses me off.

  • The new format is seriously awful. The first thing I do when I do a search now is go immediately to the bottom of the page and switch it back. Every, single time.

  • The new Google images is a mistake. It hides vital information from the user by default (like size) and also does not let you see the source of an image, something that is important in many situations. PLEASE change it back.

  • @mariofreak64 Alos, if feels way to busy and overloading to the eyes

  • Ironically, now I probably wont go to it for anything because it looks retarded.

  • This is the second time Google has screwed up Image search,... didn't you learn from the torrent of abuse the first time.

Put it back the was it was please.

The new layout, and especially "Infinite Scroll" does nothing but bog down any non-broadband connection.

    Infinite Scroll = INFINITE FAIL

  • ugh fuck the updates D:

  • Please change it back or give me the ability to keep it for all my search / browser sessions. I can't middle click to open in a new tab, the search results are really sloooooow and when I click an image the next result does not allow me to see the webpage. I have to click YET AGAIN and wait AGAIN for the whole page to load. why why why why why did you do this!?

    Please revert it back.

  • Google, that is ONE page, a SINGLE page, with a shitload of images that do nothing for me but slow down my browser and make my mind go haywire because I'm seeing too much shit. Give people the damn option to use this instead of just forcing us to use this.

  • As an artist, I'm always using Google Images for reference material or inspiration. As expected, sometimes malware/virus sites will have images of celebrities or a popular search to trap them.

By removing that site metadata, you've hidden some of the apps like WOT or AVG's Linkscanner that help people to decide whether a site is safe to look at or not...and if you click on the image you preload the site in the background!

Your UI designers need to work with the security specialists.

  • GOOGLE IMAGE IS FOR PORN SHOW ME THE BOOBS

  • What you need to do:

    1. Make images link directly to full image.

    2. Remove the hover "pop up." It's annoying.

    3. Add a link to the image landing page under each image which a truncated version of the full link so users can still easily see what site it's from without having to hover over an image.

    4. Use the previous landing page because as it is now, you can't actually browse a website now. The old one was much better.

  • I hate the new results. Please move the basic version link from the bottom of the page where it is inanely inaccessible and allow it as a persistent setting. I'd also like the ability to switch back to the old frame at the top when opening a result. The new thing just gets in the way and makes me have to load the page twice.

I'm not sure why anyone thought this was a good idea.

  • Is the bimbo in the video the same person who designed this "great idea"? If so, take her out back and bury her in a hole. This new image search is crap!

  • @zeppole1:

    HAHAHA, the Bimboo hehe!

AGREE! The new image search is just SH*T!

  • @GOOGLE:

    YOU SUCK!

The new image search is awful, slow, unpractical!! etc!

    What you were thinking!?

  • @HelliXSystems slow my ass, its pretty fast for me.

  • Comment removed

  • The new image results interface is TERRIBLE- I hate the popups. If can't turn them off either via a google switch or find a greasemonkey script to make them stop I won't use google for image searches anymore.

  • sorry, I love you Google, but Bing is still better; just the option to see the images even when you are on the landing page and not having to go back and forth is way better; you ripped off so much from Bing, why not take that too? too obvious?

  • awful

  • Very good, except the zoom effect introduces a delay before the user can middle-click an image to bring it up in a new tab, significantly reducing the efficiency with which you can gather a large amount of reference images. Form over function.

  • So you went over to Bing and said... let's do that.... wow.... what innovation.

    Sidebars = Bing

    Images = Bing

    Video?=Bing?

    Gates is cracking up.

  • I wish Google stopped "fixing" stuff.

  • why did they put 100 photos on one page?! that looks awful...
