Other item of note is that when Brain isn't around, Gadget gets out of whatever danger he's in by dumb luck. My favorite moment of that is when Dr. Claw makes a robot look-a-like that everybody but him is too stupid to tell is a fake, and his henchmen set up a bunch of death traps to kill Gadget, and he tells "You idiots, I don't want Gadget to be eliminated, I want him to be behind bars! Save Gadget, Save Gadget!"

Damn! I've never seen Get Smart, but I remember watching Inspector Gadget when I was between 10 and 15 yrs old. Some of the scenes were so hilarious, I'd laugh so hard that I literally pissed my pants. Everytime I watch the show, I'd wish that I had the gadgets that could come become available at my command. It was one of my favourite cartoon shows. I miss that show.

It's also worth mentioning that one of Inspector Gadget's other inspirations might have been Dynomutt, the robotic dog from the 1976 Hanna Barberra show. Both characters are very similar to each other in being goof balls with a nearly endless array of gadgets built into their anatomy.
