  • thats amazing ;)

    i love your music

  • That is Kool JB , I don't know how to explain some of my Lozrok either LOL Cheers & thanks for the lesson..

  • im not even going to attempt this but wow you're amazing

  • what is that thing called that he uses to play the chords?

  • @CubingWithJames a slide. Made out of metal or glass, but it's essentially just a big moveable fret. Look up Slide Guitar.

  • sound like RHCP mix i like it

  • Is it just me or he actually sounds like Anthony Kiedis(from RHCP) at 4:11

  • What kind of guitar is this?

  • @HuascarEMC ; resonator guitar

  • @HuascarEMC It's a National Reso-Phonic Guitars, Western Model D Squareneck. One which, I might add, I helped build while I worked there. :)

  • Are you English?

  • @KimberlyGrant45 no he is aussie

  • @destayler94 thanks....I saw an interview with him and Keith Urban that let me know I was wrong about him being English...but it was nice of you to let me know.

  • @KimberlyGrant45 have a great day mate

  • i would like to see a 10 min tut on how to play Ocean :D haha. That's like, impossible.. :p

  • his accent is crazy one second aussie then jamacian then american haha

  • it would be interesting to find out if he knows theory cuse his music is so soulful it seems as if he dosnt. awsome vid

  • He's awesome for sitting down, explaining his fans how to play his songs

  • dude ur so right, if he showed us how 2 play ocean i could die happy :-)

  • "i cant tell you any of the names of the chords cause im not set up that way" comming from anyone else i would call them a hack, comming from him.... well, he is John Butler who cares, and we can use the ocean track from fed square as proof.

  • this song is pure magic i love it :)

  • @dantaz hes not u weirdo

  • he plays very well, why is he homeless?

  • @dantaz Lol, what?

  • @jamesroberts466

    (and Close to you)

  • Hey everyone, John has another tutorial out for 'I'd Do Anything', however the vids called "John Butler Masterclass 05/ 10"!

    It's awesome.

  • my vampiric hands

    auhieahouiaheahas

  • you sir are the boss

  • Comment removed

  • @ChrisLangenbergMusic Seriously? I can't tell if you're joking because he says it at 1:00

  • dude u da man

  • greater than the wheel.

  • @jamesroberts466 dude, ocean isn't that hard if you know what your doing. And besides, John is different from most musicians. He writes his songs based on drum beats, and ideas of things he things people should know. So if you know the beat and the message of his song, it only takes a little skill to play it.

  • Ocean Tutorial man! even though i know how to play it already

  • @MrJackWrightable Ummmm, you know how to play Ocean? I doubt Man!

  • @jamesroberts466 dead serious man, only took me a day, but it took me a month or two to develop some feel and not just playin each note.

I'd make a vid but ive got no recording gear, think i know some mates who have some though.

but if i make a video, youll be the first to know ;)

  • @MrJackWrightable Okay then, you sound confident, so I'll take your word.

  • @jamesroberts466 damn right ;)

  • put that first verse on valium !

  • "I can't explain this cause i don't even know what i'm doing"

  • Coolest fucker on the planet :D

  • Wow! Crazy on another level!

  • I love him so much!!! ^^

  • 3:12

    and theeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee... 7th fret

  • this is awesome now can you make a video like this for ocean? lol

  • @inshepardswetrust

Ha, that would be a long tutorial. lol :-)

  • this god don't need cords n theory, he just look at the big picture - "that kinda of em, the movement of the landscape." LANDSCAPE!!!!!!! orz

  • he is a human genius

  • absolute fucking ledgend!

  • wow hermoza guitarra y gran voz

  • Thanks a lot . Actually , it really helps a lot !

  • How long will it take for me to grow fingernails like yours and then start learning how to play that?

  • @biskut0024 Watch the Q&A video on this channel. They're fake and made of acrylic.

  • Whoa...

  • This guy is just a genius.

  • whats the silver thing that you use for chord progressions? i really need to get one!

  • @Motsic its a special lap steel slide - made by jim dunlop i think is the most popular one. not too expensive last time i looked. :D

  • @Motsic they are called tone bars

  • what is the silver thing that you use for the chords progressions? i really need to get one!!

  • remind anyone of that song... holy grail (hunters and collectors)? not taking anything away from it, but i was just playing this in standard (can almost get it all, just not with a slide, have to improvise with bends whammy and harmonics, great fun though) and then thought of it.

  • I know you probably dont read these comments, but in your " Live and accoustic version" how do you play it?

probably too much trouble to do another how to play vid, but im just saying; itd be nice (:

    thanks

  • wat was tthe tuneing again

  • now i can play ocean but it's still nothing like how he play's it

  • This is so fantastic - you have got magic fingers! Can`t wait to see you in Karlsruhe this weekend!! Thanks for the great tutorial!!

  • awesome, just tried this on my electro acoustic and it sounds awesome, just a pitty i have a rounded neck and bridge, i have a feeling though if i get another intonation plate and square it myself it will make slide playing a hell of aot easier and i can interchange the to plates within 1 min, prob solved :D.

  • @Smokinjoewhite will also need a custom, higher nut but i'm sure with a bit of innovation i can make one up, this is gonna be my next little project.

  • John a brilliant tutorial but face it nobody can play as great as you!

  • what type/size strings do you use? do you find lighter strings harder to use while sliding?

  • this guy used to busk at freo ! good work

  • @aggresiveskater419 yeah, he funded his career that way.

    I love the guy.

  • That is a huge chair! It makes him look like a little person.

  • @bennettrw87

He's not that big of a guy in person. But yes, he's a great musician and does care about his fans a lot!

  • @bennettrw87 'Tis a love seat, dawg.

  • MAN YOU ARE GREAT!

  • this is awesome

  • Thanks for that JB. Slide on bro.

  • JB is pure genious. LOVE THIS SONG!!!!!!!!!!!!!

such a unique and talented guitar player. And the way he sings perfectly suits his playing. LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! so unique :P

  • The the the the the the xDDD I lovvveeee youuuuuuu!!! <3 :D

  • can this be played with a normal acoustic w a slide?

  • @mustanglp50 not as easly but if u tune it the same way u can its just going to be harder

  • this is so cool! how many artist actually do this!!! he is the best!!

  • This is one of those songs thats like so upbeat but when you read the lyrics its kinda like "angry" at least that I think. I dunno how you guys interpret the song

  • god among humans.. big JB

  • haha " I i dont even know how to explain that to you because i dont even know what im doing " hahaha!

  • Awesome, thanks & appreciated :)

  • just an open question, in the album recording of one way road, when it's 2:06 into the song, what is played there?

Is it the open-7th fret-9th fret-5th fret played acoustically? anyone know???

  • This guy is badass.

As soon as he starts to play that main part you can't help but to smile

  • This is great but I wish you would get a set decorator!

  • i love this man sooooooo much

  • can anyone tell me what slider he's using please?

    would really help me out.

    :)

  • @ConkerPlonker99 It's a lap steel slider man. it's a long flat slide instead of your basic cylinder shape. Since your playing from above it's alot easier to press down the notes. you're supposed to hold it in between your 3rd and middle finger but it's up to you

  • Haha, out on the captions and enjoy the show! He totally sounds like a war-monger according to the captions. He mentions "Bush" and "Iraq" and "the mission" LOADS of times! lol

  • go johnny .. old soul for sure

  • haha "we're gonna put that first verse on valium and see what happens"

thanks for the vid John!! :D

  • that was painful to watch. With that being said this guy bleeds great music.

  • Thank you very much for this video John, been a fan since seeing you busk in Freo and constantly stunned by your talent. Even more now that I'm playing guitar too.

See you at Blues n Roots this year :D

  • At a first glance I always thought john butler had the most complex songs ever, and they do sound that way. but at another glance, the chords, and licks he does are not so insane, but the way he plays is unique. you know how he can incorporate all different rythms and such with his right hand. its pure genious

  • @rwebb61 yes well you just go of and listen to mist and oldman on sunrise over sea and 3 and im sure you wont feel the same way.

  • @rwebb61 and on top of that, he knows nothing about theory!! He's a frikkin god!

  • He's just awesome ! Eager to hear the next opus !

  • YOUR A GREAT MUSICIAN!!! listen to you everyday <3

  • Thx John ! And keep on rockin' , you're awesome !!

  • great tutorial!!!

  • Love it.. :)

  • beautiful

  • JahB you deserve everything you get in this life.. cause you give

  • I love this whole concept.

I always share the lyrics and music to my songs and Iv always been annoyed at artists who think it should be kept a secret.

    A1!

  • many thnx...i was playin' it in Open G with bottom C and something just didn't sound right :P

anyway many thnx and looking forward for APRIL UPRISING :D :D
