i just wanna be honest here.., there's only one STAR in the group.. and he's not here anymore.., but he's a legend , and legend never dies, he lives on foreva...
I think Randy was ahead of his time with this vocal effort because "She Drives Me Crazy" by the Fine Young Cannibals has a similar "awkward" falsetto but it was a hit in the late 80s. I like when artists experiment with their range. People today play it too safe.
randy is a very talented artist, who can sing at diffent pitches. he is singing at a higher pitch on this cut. check out his album randy and the gypsys, and you will hear his variety of pitches he sings at.
The sound quality is absolutely horrible here: It's not only slower than the album version, there is a hiss a crackle that could only come from a secondhand recording... Glad someone posted this song though.
If you think Randy is the least talented Jacksons, you don't know much about the Jacksons. This is the only song where Randy sings like this. Listen to One More Chance or his solo song Love You Honey, he sounds great. He sounds like Jermaine and sings much better than Marlon or Jackie.
I like this song and the beat, and I really like Randy too, but damn....his vocals aren't the best. Besides LaToya, I always thought he was the least talented Jackson, especially when it came to singing. Now if Michael was on here or even Jackie, then it would have been better. Still love the Jacksons though!!
Your mindeset with that last comment is one of the reasons for MJ's downfall. Cockiness and arrogants. Heeeeeeey im on this level and my brothers are pieces of shhht
MJ isnt the only artist over the last 50 years who was the most talented in his group. There have been many artist who were lead singers and maybe they had great solo careers and the backups didnt. That doesnt mean u diss the backups.
Bottom line is MJ after Thriller SOLD off his reputation
Unfortunately, the critics and the much of the non-R&B-listening public agreed that MJ really had little reason other than family ties 2 work with The Jacksons again & that they were trying to capitalize off his solo success with the reunion album & tour. I've read MJ's biography The Magic & The Madness & it said how the Jackson father & brothers frequently tried to get him involved in subsequent reunions that seemed to be more about sapping money out of him due to their irresponsible spending
Yeah, but Michael was really reluctant to contribute at all to this reunion album and tour, so the brothers were lucky they had any moment of Michael singing on the album for them.
Because he didn't want to tour with his brothers anymore, because he had outgrown the group and his family and surpassed them in talent and success. He knew the reunion was nothing more than a way to cash in on his success, so he contributed very little to the Victory album.
oh cant say i blame micheal i undersatand but i know deep down he loved touring with his brothers thought and if you thunk about it he did the same thing on 2300 jackson st album
Yeah, MJ only contributed to the title track as a guest vocalist and he wasn't an official member of the group anymore by then. The members of The Jacksons by that album were Jermaine, Tito, Randy, & Jackie.
Wasn't there something to do with the fact Michael didn't like that people going to see the Jacksons for the Victory tour were getting ripped off? They could only buy four tickets at a time apparently - so my sister told me.
That only added to it. According to his biography The Magic, The Madness, The Whole Story, MJ was the only one of the brothers vehemently against the ticket plan, predicting what ended up happening, but he was outvoted 5 to 1 because of the group dynamic. But I think this was the final straw and the ultimate catalyst for why MJ would never want to tour with his brothers ever again.
I'll need to read that book soon. My sister has it and she says it's the best book about Michael you can possibly get. I've never had to chance to read it sadly, but I'll get to it very soon.
This song sucks!! Not their best effort, I am a serious Jacskson fan and this song has to be the worst, Mike did not have to take the lead, they can sing as well , he just sucked on this effort
This song is the butt of most of my friend's jokes. I love the album for sentimental reasons (came out when I was 2, after thriller) but this song is a turkey.
i don't wanna be biased, but i think michael should have definately sang this song. i can just hear his billie jean style voice singing this. but i still love this song.
I agreed with you MrFusion, but if I recall correctly Michael didn't want to sing the lead vocals with - or actually be in - the band. But, hell, it's still a good song :-D
The Vocals is horrible!!!!!!!!! Sorry, this is terrible! The beat pulled me in, then Randy turned me away. This embarasses me Michael or Jermaine should've lead this, and the vocals is somewhat hilarious, but terrible!!!!!!!
Who sings lead in this song? I remember when I first heard on here, no disrepect, but it cracked me up. It was hard to listen to w/o laughing because the person sounded so horrible vocally. I knew the other brothers was in the background and harmonized amazingly, but who in the heck was the lead. Anyways, besides that now, I can tolerate it w/o laughing and it makes feel like dancing. I had to cope the album, especially for 'State of Shock,' 'We Can Change the World,' and many more. Thanks Spaz.
Randy sings lead on this song which he co-wrote with Michael, David Paich and John Pocaro from the group Toto. He also played keyboards and synsersizers on thsis song as well.

Randy has a great voice... his falsetto is iffy but I dig it. Tito and Jermaine (and even randy imo) have better voices than Jackie and Marlon though

To me, Britney Spears vocals are terrible, Randy's was cool. This was one of my favorite songs off that album.
