I wish Tucson Az had a venue worthy of Mr. Franks' performances. He is worth every dollar of a ticket price.A must see for jazz lovers not only in Tucson, but everywhere. I would love to know if or when he ever comes to Arizona.
I love the humility michael franks displays with his voice and gestures, just always mentally reclined. He keeps me focused in realizing there is paradisaic conditions that awaits us. very JAZZY INDEED....Gracias
I saw Micheal Franks years ago in Cincinnati,Ohio and loved him! Wow, wished he would come back he is fantastic! These kids these day should try and follow this class act...smile!
Pure Class and very talented. He has been at the top of smooth jazz for alot of years. I've known of him since 85 and i know he had stuff out in the mid 70's. You go on with your bad self Mr.Michael Franks.
well said...spockOFRock...he is one and only michal franks..i have 4 of his oldies music and no one, no one can top his style, his voice....just smooth...smooth jazz.the lady wants to know...
Hope to watch you again play in Manila soon. It's been a long time since you played here & in behalf of your huge followers here, we would be glad to hear your cool voice & see you perform again, Mr. Cool. Mabuhay ka MF!
MICHEAL FRANKS has one of the best male jazz vocals in music history, yes Tony Bennett,Harry Connick,Frank Sinatra etc,etc all good but this guy still going with the same voice if not better, good on you Mike.
Fabulous the greatest chill out song of all time for all you 9 to 5ers, its a shame about all the cheap talk on here from non musicians who think they sound sophisticated with words like a.....e come on get a life the music is for enjoyment and uplifting the soul, if its not for you then dissapear you wont be missed.
I have been a fan for more than 20 years. My dream came true 2 years ago when i went to see him in concert in Tokyo at the Bilboard. We were at the most 60 people attending his great performance. There were just a few tables (it was a bar and restaurant at the same time) but it was heaven, a private concert with Michael Franks !!! And, i had the chance to meet him afterwards.I was so shy and impressed.
I definitely will do that again,he comes often to Tokyo and Osaka
@shinagawagirl How could you stand it. An almost private show with seemingly one of the classiest jazz artists of modern time. I guess I would have been pretty speechless too.
@Mrtiele:You bet! I guess i looked stupid for more than an our with my mouth open and my eyes shining.Especially after the concert when i met him,i was all trembling.I made him sign my favourite album panflet "Blue Pacific".Going back to my hotel,i was walking on a cloud...
I wish to have the same experience with Ronny Jordan (God i love him too)He played at the Blue Note in Tokyo last June, and i had to attend a lousy wedding in France (i'm french), i could have been in front of Ronny instead!
Amazing how he still sounds the same after all these years. Great artist! Post more recent stuff if you have it. I know he has a few tour dates in 2009.
In Asia i don't know. I'm french and live in France. In Japan as i go either to Tokyo or Osaka once or twice a month, that's "easy" for me. Otherwise on the Billboard Tokyo site, you can see the schedule over several months but it's written in japanese... I can't read chinese kanjis, just the Kanas, so i can understand a bit. But obviously, he comes to Japan at least once a year. And about the price i paid... It was nothing to me. Y9000. For a night like this,it's a gift...
what a moron ...that's a perfect bossa nova; very laid back, totally fits the song and sets a mellow mood. You said one thing right... "Dennis Chambers is a great drummer..." if you'd have stopped right there, you wouldn't have sounded like an idiot.
Brought my first LP my Michael Franks back in the 80's in my hometown Los Angeles. Now living in England, and miss this sound which to me is very L.A!!

cilamc - maybe in your experiences, you associate this with "smug & bougeois" because ...um... well bad experiences with "smug & bourgeois" people who listened to this musical styling? I just think its kinda weird to associate it that way is all. Just curious.
This is amazing that you two are talking about the connection between John Mayer and Michael Franks. When Room for Squares was first released, the New York Times compared these two wonderful artists to each other. As you have both said, JM and MF both have that smooth airy sound to their voices that is just amazing. I am glad to hear that JM and MF is up there on your list, because they are both very high on mine.
wtfomglmfaog2g that is amazing that you made that connection too. MF has been my very favorite ever since The Art of Tea came out. No one since has really caught my ear. Then Room For Squares came out and my wife heard J. Mayer on the radio. She said to me "Hey I just heard someone you might like". Ever since Mayer has been my 2nd fav. They both hit that certain button in my brain. That is so weird that you and I both see that. I don't think others make that connection. Sonny, Penn Hills, PA
Definitely man. MF is just amazing! I've always loved his stuff. Like you said, when JM came out, I was blown by the maturity in his voice. That airy smoothness is so unique and heartfelt. JM is a bad boy! Crazy talent/gift. Great taste my friend.
