Sanctions give the current regime support, an ideology is different to a sovereign! By placing sanctions on iran only ensures the support base of the regime exists! We are iranian, some are exiles some are ex-pats!

Most of the devaluation of the rial happened when people witched to dollars, left or what have you! The country monopolised the goverment to the state, when it had before been with connected individuals to the shah!

poverty is everywhere. By the way some of the pictures are not what they seem for example the first one is just a picnicing family and there are also pictures from Iraq forexample the pulitzer winning picture of the girl looking upto to American marine after her parents were murdered by marines in Baghdad. I am sure one can compile a bunch of picture of poverty in USA too. Iran has always been a poorer country no doubt about it but in the last 30 years they have improved alot

Hmmm, 30 years ago you didn't have an enemy like USA, on the contrary you were best friends with them. :) That means no sanctions. We all know what sanctions do to the economy of a country. And you didn't have an 8 years long war, note; longer than 2. world war, think about the economy again.

You are right in that povery exists everywhere. But as an Iranian, I can tell you that this is now a very large scale problem. 30 years ago you rarely saw such images. Now they are wide spread. It is awful. The government has also made it impossible for other people outside of Iran to adopt these kids. I think it is because they want them to grow up with less than nothing, then give them some crumbs and make them basiji's to control the rest of Iran. Poverty is the worst form of violence.

The mullahs are directly responsible for the deaths of millions from their war with Iraq to today's prisoners in Evin jail for peaceful demonstrations.
