  • Dudes out of his mind..lol

  • That movie didn't even come out until 1991. Like fuck he was acting out a part from a movie nobody had even heard about and very doubtful a movie that was as big of a piece of shit as Rubin and Ed would have taken 4 years to make. They probably made a movie based around the state he was in on Letterman in hopes to cover it up.

  • @HALFWAYCR00KS if you watch the interview he does with letterman two weeks after this one, he begins to explain (albeit in a very prolonged and confusing way), and actually mentions the character rubin farr by name, but letterman interrupts him before he can finish.

  • Good

  • Only one professional on stage and it wasn't Letterman at the time.

  • "comic genius, nobody got it" Whatever. When you're a nobody, you don't get to go on national TV and do an inside joke for the entire interview and not take some heat for it. There's a homeless guy downtown that tells jokes to himself, they don't make any sense but he laughs his ass off. He must be a comedic genius too.

  • Ahead of his time. What a comic genius. Nobody got it.

  • Letterman can be such an ass. Here is Crispin trying to entertain and show his comedic side, and Letterman makes him all the more alienated, doesn't roll at all with the skit. This behavior of his is why he dropped so fast in the ratings to Leno.

  • Read my new interview with Crispin at punkglobedotcom - It's a the COVER story! :) peace, Jeff L

  • That is not Crispin. That's Mr. Far.

  • He sure looks like he's under the influence of something. The Rubin character is really dissimilar to what he's like in this interview. Either way, Crispy is #1.

  • skrillex in the 80s

  • good thing crispen didnt let letterman in on the act because lettermans inability to sell comedy would have blew this sincere moment.

  • @SmittyHeWasNumber1 ...

    yeah. whatever.

  • that's how i feel all the time - but i try to hold it together with mixed results

  • Asian bridals here **busizz4me.info**

  • Not on acid. He's an actor.

  • my cat can eat a whoooole watermelon

  • Yes, if you watch the movie, "Ruben and Ed", he is in full character from his performance in that film. Glover is frequently misunderstood and the assertion that he is on acid shows a good deal of ignorance on the part of the poster. I know I was never this clever when I was on hallucinogens.

  • If Crispin is not on drugs, he's surely made a bad "Career," move with his "Acting."

    Peace.

    Rock

  • @rockinroller7 I never saw Crispin before in my life (yeah I missed the Rivers Edge) but it looks like a bad career move. Joaquin Phoenix did an "acting stint" on Letterman that was more annoying than this. And Andy Kaufman could bore (did you know Michael Stipes prefer the Monkees to the Beatles.. he never liked anything but the song "Michele" by the Beatles ??? Hard to believe. Glover is it's acting 4 his next movie and could he do that kick on drugs? Maybe. Stipes was drugged.

  • @11xzxzxz

Yeah, Glover has always been on the "Edge,' with the movie "choices," (if he's ever had a choice.

Andy Kaufman was "funny," (being kind) on taxi, but when he got in a boxing ring, nothing was funny anymore, just sadly pitiful.

As for Stipes, he has always seemed to be trying to come off as a, "Deep thinker."' in interviews, --boring. As for the Monkees over the Beatles, when did R. E.M. last release a CD?

It seems, "It's The End of (their) World, As (They) Know It.

    Peace.

    Rock

  • @rockinroller7 Yeah funny and the end was due to being crushed by an orange. and I like that you were "being kind" about Kaufmann because he wasn't usually funny (well once he sang along to a record of Mickey Mouse on Sat nite live - good enough). If Stipes is trying, and I think you are correct Sir, to be a deep thinker than why the Monkees and Brittany Spears and I all evidence shows he is not goofing on Elvis. Early REM (Murmur) and other stuff is good.

  • "River's Edge" was an excellent movie

  • @FLAGGEDbyU2 Hell yes. One of my favorite roles he did.

  • This is painful to watch.

  • I love Crispin glover. And his shoes are pretty cool. Sadly enough I even have a pair similar to those

  • His music is so freakin weird haha

  • bad acting

  • Glover's schtick is tired.

  • Don't be fooled. This is method acting...

  • even if he was still in character, it's messed. stop making excuses for the guy. there's a level of professionalism we all must take into account when doing public guest spots and this is just... wow.

  • Has anyone seen "River's Edge"? He played a doped out metal head. This is very similar to the character that he played, in that movie. Crispin may have expericence (the way Jimi asked about), but he was acting here.

  • wow, Letterman has a long career

  • If he's acting, he's amazing. If he's not, goddamn, he's weird.

  • If he really was high he would be laughing his ass off and incoherent, or sketching out hardcore.

  • My god there are some slow people commenting here, it's totally an act. Producers, directors and sponsors to name but a few would never let anyone 'tripping on acid' be on prime time TV, too much of a risk. Once again people don't believe everything you see on television!

  • @jchan100 You're kidding? Do you realize how many people get high for interviews like this? Obviously not. And it's not just interviews. A good example is Courtney Love, fucked out of her mind during the roast of Pam Anderson. People take drugs. Famous ones too. In fact, especially famous ones. It's not like these "producers, directors, and sponsors" personally babysit everyone and make sure they aren't doing anything bad before the show. Once again, don't be so naive.

  • Can you imagine having this guy and that dude from Taxi on Letterman at the same time? You know, that guy Andy something...............I've been told that I'm a little "off", but I see stuff like this, which reassures me of my sanity.

  • Hey thrashatarium... you better change your desciption because it is libel (slander in written form) and you can get into a lot of trouble for that. this is a CHARACTER, not an acid trip. So change your description and remove Acid from your tags. OR, change the word "is" to "acting like he is." If you don't change this, I will flag it.

  • @edufur bro, shut the hell up. you're taking life way too seriously. unless of course you're being surreptitiously sarcastic

  • LSD and David Letterman...... bad idea

  • Thumb me down all you want but Letterman had every right in reacting the way he did. In character or not, Crispin was acting like an idiot.

  • LoL... at 0:15 when he came on stage, it looked like someone pushed him out, and he was talkin shit to them.

Maybe part of an act, but it also lends legitimacy to him actually being baked. I can imagine him backstage all nervous, saying he's not going to go out, and a producer or stage hand just pushes him on stage. Funny stuff either way.

  • Wikipedia...look it up.

  • Some are saying he was on acid and some are saying it was fake as usual..but damn..that would be a really uncomfortable acid trip..being in front of all those crazy people..and David asking questions..I would run off the stage...

  • Kind of reminds me of Andy Kaufman. He was another guys who broke your balls so hard that you would believe whatever he said or did was on the level.

  • I thought you pronounced his name as "Gl-oh-ver" not "Gl-uh-ver" XD He's so funny and cute!

  • you can obviously tell he's wearing a wig. this was an act. his character for a yet to be released film at the time. he wasnt on acid.

  • This guy is not fucking acting. He is a weird guy. Watch his fucking music video..."Clowny Clown Clown."

    "NICE SHOES!!!!" @ 1:28 LOL!!!

  • @MrBluntsworth420

Yes, he is weird, but, yes, he is also totally acting! As in, he's not REALLY crazy...if he was REALLY crazy like that, you'd see him as some homeless guy in a strange costume having an animated conversation with a piece of fruit, but instead you see him in movies, because he's an ACTOR, just one who happens to like playing weird. Get it? ;)

  • @stellamaris347 Yea this guy is interesting. I didn't think this was an act at first but the more research I look up on this guy he does seem pretty intelligent, not to mention he was dressed exactly like the character he played in Rubin and Ed. It was clearly an act, but I will not forgive Mr. Glover for Clowny Clown Clown. :p

  • @MrBluntsworth420 He's acting. As a child, Glover attended the Mirman School for the academically gifted. They only accept highly gifted children (those with an IQ over 145). Given that the avg Youtube user has an IQ somewhere in the double digits, it's no wonder they assume he was "on drugs", insane, weird, etc. He's been a regular on Letterman since then.

  • @ritter89 Please...Do not include me with the general public :p I hate the avg youtube idiot just as much as you do, and I have to say you were right, I have watched many interviews with this guy and he is pretty interesting. He is one of those artists who gets a kick out of human interpretations, which I too find fascinating.

  • mckflYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY !!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • He's a good actor.

  • @ 1:52 he seemed like he was gonna cry :( poor crsipy crispin

  • He's not on acid everybody! as funny as it would be, i doubt he would be able to even carry out a conversation. He was playing a character "Rubin" for the movie "Rubin and Ed" it hadn't come out yet and so nobody knew wtf he was doing

  • IKINKICK

  • who says he's on acid?

Seems lucid to me. Seems like he's just having fun putting one over on us.

Good for him!!!! He's doing just what Harvey Pekar did to Dave, but in the opposite way. Harvey was ultimate truth. Crispin was ultimate satire.

  • Lol. "Don't make me sound alot weird." Lol

  • I LOVE CRISPIN GLOVER!

but not as much as mr.Far

I think I'm gunna go smoke a cigar

  • LOL :)

    Clowny clown clown

  • Hell yeah!

  • he was obviously in character, but the weird thing is he refuses to explain why he was "acting" like he was fucked up. hes dressed exactly like Rubin from Rubin and Ed, but Rubin doesn't stutter and have a hard time constructing sentences like in this interview. he had to be high on something.

  • @ohwello yea, acid. i knew that before i read the info bar

  • I CAN KICK!

  • hello mcfly, anybody home?

  • From Wikipedia: Unbeknownst to Letterman and the audience, Glover appeared in character as "Rubin," from a then-unreleased movie Rubin and Ed, wearing platform shoes and a wig

great job everyone for falling for this so easily

  • I think he may have said he was in character later but he seems genuinly confused, either that or hes done acid a lot and remembers the trip.

  • Not acid, just schtick.

  • you idiots... he's just in character

  • i dont think hes actually on acid dude

  • On acid damn!

  • Fair enough, then.

  • LOL! David Letterman is a PUSSY! He was so scared here. PUSSY!

  • he;s a jew what do u expect

  • Wtf do you people mean it's not really him?

  • ...impressing the girl things......

  • you people are stupid.

he was playing a character. ruben from the movie ruben and ed

  • @davidyow just wanted to say thank you. The first time I'd seen this video the incident wasn't mentioned on the wikipedia page and forums and blogs didn't help explain what the hell this was.(I'd also never seen that movie) I finally see what he was doing. Funny that noone on the show understood what he was doing it either.

  • @davidyow are you sure? i dont know if hes tripping...but i have a feeling hes putting on a little bit of a show but hes on something for sure. if hes that weird normal then he is my celebrity crush.

  • @davidyow i rememebr seeing thsi back in the day he tried to kick himin the head or something?LOL..what theFUCK?

  • @davidyow I don't think so man... he's talked about this interview and tried to give a bs reason for why it happened. If it is faked, it's amazing acting.

  • how can he read on acid xD?

  • i would think he's on coke

  • he wasnt on acid

  • bull shit dude, he is trippin

  • I CAN ARMWRESTLE!

  • ha that would be crazy to be tripping in front of an audience

  • I saw a scene from that movie and hes dressed exactly the same as he is here

  • be careful what you wish for cause you just might get it.

  • Wish Letterboy had the guts too take

    some acid.

    He could use some.

  • clever ITHERE...

  • Yeah, cause George Carlin and Bill Hicks are real fucking morons.

  • yeah you guys are right, rubin and ed

  • Lol you guys this was all staged, Glover admitted it years ago, he's playing a character from a movie he'd do call "Rubin and Ed", he's basically doing the Andy Kaufman thing. He's NOT on acid, just playing a character.

  • is this a joke???

  • he's faking

  • Yes he is, since he's not on acid he's playing Rubin Far

  • i expected letterman to say .. "do you do .. alot of ... LSD??"

  • I just love Letterman's composure after the kick. It's just great. That kick was not far from his head at all!

  • .Com ON...that's his job.

After that, he just about had enough though.

  • Hes on acid

  • I'm on acid too. I'm tripping.

  • It looks like he is having a bit of a hard time.....

  • Comment removed

  • you've never been on acid.

  • Comment removed

  • who cares if he is or not on acid, he's hilarious thats what matters!

    he's just beautiful!

  • the funniest part is when he gets scared of his shadow at the beginning lol

  • he isnt on acid. he is acting

  • @HammerMovie well thats stupid, if it is a character, its a lame nonsense, stupid, morronic, shithead character

  • @HammerMovie and that "acting" got him kicked off the show

  • pretty good acting there..

  • OMG! I totally remember this when it happened. Really, really weird!

  • You're misinformed & wrong just like everyone else that think his actions were due to drugs. He was acting as the character Ruben from Ruben & Ed(1991) which was a movie that never became popular or well known. Ruben is a reference to a guy Crispin met in middle school that looked just like him. He doesn't want to tell people that his act on Letterman was just him acting, because it wouldn't be as interesting as all the hype going around about it. Think deeper next time.

  • Comment removed

  • exatcly, dude wasn't on drugs (to our knowledge)! He was in character unbeknownst to Letterman and the studio audience.

  • Yeah your right! You tell 'em. You know al about it and I quiver at your every word. I'm thinking deeper this time. THANXXX!

  • He was doing a charcter! It's the character from Rubin and Ed!! He wasn't wasted! He's a great actor and that's how good he is!!!

  • i just looked at your other vids......nvm...you're more than a mis-informed noob, that's very clear lol

  • he's not on acid you idiot! *shakes head* it's his 'alter ego', if you will...BUT HE'S NOT ON ACID! might wanna get around to changing that title so you can stop looking like a mis-informed noob

  • True, he was playing his character with the clothes and doing the kick like his character. But, come on--look at how jittery he was and stuttering. He kept changing the subject and getting all bizarre. There had to have been drugs involved as well.

  • hahaha it's true - bizarre indeed :P but once you get to 'know' crispin glover, you'll see he's always a jittery bizarre guy. you should see his movies and live poetry readings! it's artistic insanity - but deep and sane at the same time. also, look up vids of him just hanging out with people like tom green. you get to see his house and prized car in some :)...his house is dark and bizarre like him lol

  • He's back from the future!!! Ok, so did joaquin rip this off? Yes he did...

  • if hes back from the future this ripped joaquin off...

  • YEP HE WAS IN CHARACTER.........

  • He wasn't on acid, he was in character. The character being "Rubin" from Rubin & Ed.

  • I love Conan but does he have anything other than making his hair flop around during his monologue and then ripping off every gag/stunt letterman PIONEERED? How about that stupid ass "LaBamba." Lets hold a flashlight up to our face and say "In the year two thosaaaand." fucking terrible. Dont put yourself down, Im Irish too! peace brother. PS Conan sucked Letterman's ass his final night and recognized him as the pioneer of what their now calling "Fratire." I thought Jack Paar was a genius.

  • omg hes so wasted

  • this is not Late Show

  • wow hes young then

  • he has Parkinson now i think...sucks.

  • thats michael j. fox, not crispin glover

  • yeah, bad with names then LOL

  • Its not funny at all. He is talented but hes not successful so he pushes a fake eccentricity. Letterman was and IS the king of late night entertainment. Notice how Dave booted his ass immediately durung the comm break. What has Glover done since? Right, thank you.

  • He was clearly putting on some kind of an act here (or the LSD thing, who cares) but he is a very interesting and intelligent man. He has done a shitload of stuff since, many large Hollywood productions and some good films too(!) Some people don't understand the guy but fuck em'.

  • King my fat Irish-American ass. Letterman isn't shit. Conan is the King.

  • the wiki part was also in response to taxmonkey

  • He's not really high, he's just playing. Check Wikipedia.

  • from what wikipedia says, and from past experience, he's actually on acid. either that or he's is fucking incredible at acting and would have had alot ot do with LSD in the past anyway

  • if you love crispin glover, check this video out.... lvI4SKabrkY

  • I wouldn't say tha niggaz'sa genius. He's a strange guy who acts. Bingo, you get Rubin!

  • SATANIST Bono/Macphisto will be on Letterman all week. Devil worshipers!

  • Bono may be an idiot, but...are you really a lulzy doomsday christfag?

  • fuck off chanfag

  • not a fan of chans, the lexicon's nice, though. what's worse is your reliance on wikipedia as a source of info. looking to beef up your e-penis by dropping random insults, ausfag?

  • i didn;t rely on wikipedia, i only rely on it when i did assignments at school, just used it as a bit of extra.

    nah soz, im from australia

and no, i just hate 4chan, theres a reason why we aren't anonymous in real life

  • Rubin Farr

    no one else remembers that?

  • It's a character called Rubin Farr, for those people who think he is on drugs or is just some weirdo. He's genius! Andy Kaufman... then Rubin Farr... then Joaquin Phoenix.

  • Rubin Farr from Rubin & Ed.

  • hes scary

  • yeah, prolly is.

  • lsd does not make you behave in this nerd-like, self loathing sickness.

    total prick.

why say this guy is on acid? he's just acting like a cunt, rather than experiencing a psychedelic.

  • take into account he is a nerd? i seem to think he is trippin

  • Clearly the guy is just a total moron and not a very good actor.

  • Ahhh...clearly you are not a professional movie critic and completely misinformed. enjoy living your stunted life.

  • Can you climb down from your ivory tower of theoretical knowledge, and teach us to live not a stunted life, and breath freedom and true life into us?

  • exactly

lexisayok he loves playing with peoples heads.

And if I became a celebrity & was on Letterman I'd probably do the same & pretend to be on drugs lol

  • or like many hollywood stars actually be on drugs

  • Really good actor. That's it. No drugs.

  • he`s a good actor because he acts like a fuck up on a show that he`s supposed to not be acting on?.... hmm.

  • Read up on Crispin Glover. He's a really intelligent guy. Unlike most users on Youtube, I'm not going to personally attack you because you may disagree with me. All I'm saying is that this guy loves to get reactions from people, and this was just another publicity stunt of his. Letterman has had multiple actors do this on his show. Most recently, Joaquin Phoenix acted the part that he's playing in his upcoming mockumentary.

  • hmmm, lots of actors do take drugs you know? I don't know about Glover here, but the sorry physical state of J. Phoenix takes a while to get to and I don't think he would trivialize his brother's death like that on purpose.

  • Good actor. Weak bit...

He's trying to provoke total awkwardness to get a reaction. He did. It was not a good one...

You'd be surprised how easy that is to do...

  • It was a role in a movie he had just filmed. The movie then went through post-production hell and wasn't released for four years, making it nonsensical. It is the same as if the fellow from Napoleon Dynamite or the teenage guy from Little Miss Sunshine interviewed as their awkward characters.

    Questionable, yes. Merely provoking, no.

  • I didn't know that & obviously neither did Dave...

    What film?

Also, if he's the main character, I understand exactly why it went through "post-production hell". You can't edit strong content that wasn't there to begin with...

  • lLOL

  • he's trippin balls

  • This is really stupid propaganda.

  • If you think of it as him on acid, it's just kind of fucked up.

But if you see it as acting, in a very unique and odd character, like that of Emo Philips, it's actually pretty funny. I found it pretty similar to Saturday Night Live.
