Good point, although I guess it depends on which segment of the PC population you are comparing them to. Obviously even a next gen console is low end when compared to a custom $5000 gaming PC, but those are a minority. Overall I agree with your correction.
i could build a 400 dollar pc that has specs that can smack the shit out of a ps3. consoles have such shitty hardware, and they dont even have real graphics cards. the ps3 has the nvidia rsx graphics card, and the xbox has the ati xenon. both of them don even compare to any decent graphics card on the market for pc's.
If exclusives are hurting the industry, then tell me why MGS4 doubled the sales of PS3 sold?
You state that games don't bring value to their console, but in fact it does because the more exclusives a console has will increase the chance or the urge for someone to go and buy said console.
Hopefully I don't sound mean when saying any of this as emotion doesn't transfer well with text.
No, thanks, they're all good talking points. First take note that SPORE is coming out on Mac! One of the most anticipated titles in recent years.
Overall my argument was that the core economics of consoles is bad, even if sales of a platform double they are still taking a loss on each unit sold! That's just a double loss.
True, people may be encouraged to buy one console because of an exclusive, but technically those games die with the platform and that hurts the whole industry.
None the less, a Mac is still a computer and not a "gaming console". Cell phones/iPods get games from major retailers such as Square-Enix and Capcom but I don't think I would consider them as consoles or equals to the PSP/DS.
Can't argue here, well except with Nintendo. They usually always been the cheapest with little loss.
This is where backwards compatibility comes into play, and hopefully Sony will suffer for what they are attempting to do.
Thank you for making this video. I did find that video a bit uneducated and biased. The only console, as you said, that offers something unique is the Wii. Nintendo is also the only real "gaming" company. So you could expect this.
And about exclusives. I'm not buying the console because:
"Oh wow, that's so much better then my PC." I'm buying it because:
"Damn, that game isn't going to be available on my PC. I guess I have to get the console."
My face? I try to keep my identity obfuscated so that my personal views do not become associated with my professional life. Since I am involved to a degree in international politics, I find it important to keep a low profile on the internet.
And as these games require the programming of more and more pixels due to increased resolution, the production of the games becomes increasingly expensive as well. The big software developers may end up pressuring the makers of platforms to get their shit together and get on the same page to avoid wasting their (the developer's) efforts.
I waste too much time playing Final Fantasy XI, that's my weakness.
i found this interesting. i'm a gamer too, and i really have no loyality to any particular system. with the GTA franchise, there are the "stories" games that are not (last time i checked available on PC. i am not going to buy a new system, just to play those modules. i think it's true, these exclusive consoles are just hurting the gaming industry. peace.

Correction-
you said that consoles were "high end PCs repackaged as 'consoles'"
Actually, consoles, if you look at the specs, are very low end PCs.
