@wolfeman323232 yeah! It is a nice interview, but Thom skirted a lot of questions in it...understandably though...I didn't much care for the interviewer either. This though? This I like. Everyone is relaxed and enjoying themselves.
@mootbooxle i agree, i just like the other one for his reactions. it gives people a look into who he really is and what he stands for. as well as what he is willing to say on tellevision. i thought it was great, but i also love how this one is more relaxed :)
@Shaunography it was taken on hurriane festiwal in Germany, for German tv show "fast forward" with Charlotte roche which was shown on amazing viva zwei- when they close it, it was continued on viva for a year only ;/ thsi one is from viva
I always wonder, when people comment about the flirty nature of this interview...do either Thom or Rachel ever look at this stuff? I wonder if it's distressing to either of them - I mean, even if the sexual tension is in our heads - just the comments must raise questions.
Same thing when folks comment that they hate Rachel. How much can an artist appreciate their fans when they make such statements about someone he cares about? Public life must be such a hassle.
don't we all xD this morning i woke up and decided to pick up the guitar. first thing i played was "lucky". hoping that this day, it could change... >.<;;;
I wish we had a music channel like this in holland. the only people that are interviewed on our music channels are crappy pop artists who have nothing interesting to say :( Thom is great btw.
@LolaVolaHola British? You don't say!..... His accent didn't give it away at all..... If you re-read my comment, you will see I never said he was an American. Thanks for trying to point that out though.
yeah she's beautiful and smart which I'm sure makes Thom relieved to see in a journalist. This is a great interview and makes me think of Thom in a much better way than before.
I love when Thom talks about the war protest in San Francisco. Makes me proud to be from around here! There were lots of us against the war BEFORE it even began!
Fantastic interview. The best I've seen with Thom... he seemed so relaxed and open. He and the interviewer are so cute together. haha
the only way to change the situation is to cultivate an alternative. Permaculture is my hope. We won't need the companies as much if we grow our own food.
as a san franciscan who has been arrested for protesting so much that I had to take a year off (a court-ordered year off) I am placing my hopes on developing local foods and local currencies
Great interview! I almost didn't watch this because it seems like most of the Thom Yorke interviews I've watched are kind of awkward, he always seems uncomfortable and nervous in them. Glad I watched this one because it's really great, the interviewer does a good job establishing a rapport with him and asks him intelligent questions. He seems very relaxed and open and yeah, there's a little bit of chemistry and flirting between the two, lol.
Unfortunatly the music channel that broadcasted this (VIVA) was bought by MTV. The girl that did the interview (Charlotte Roach) was fired soon after that. Kind of sad.
But she wrote a pretty interesting book after that about femenism and sex and a lot of disgusting well discribed scenes. (It's called wetlands).
I am an american but if I may id like to sound English for a moment. THIS INTERVIEW IS BLOODY BRILLIANT. I love it. Thank you U.K. for all your beautiful music.
Yeah mosy definately THE SEXIEST is around 4:40 somthin he starts rubbing his neck and I'm like OMG is he arroused...he's hot. Awesome interview- Thom Im in love
It's not about our world presence, simply doing the right thing to eliminate threats. We all, worldwide have to ban together to try to defeat terrorism it's hit England first hand there's no rulebook on how to deal with these shitheads I think we all need to unify ourselves against the hatred for our way of living
in the real world there aren't good guys and bad guys. "terrorists" are known as "freedom fighters" and "heroes" where they're from, because their intentions are benevolent. nobody is evil, and trying to eradicate the non-existent evil will result in our self destruction.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Antiamerican asshole. Let's see how he feels when we leave the Brits to fend for themselves. It's easy to pick on american shortcommings but I don't see anyone else stepping up. I hated bush, voted for Obama but it changes nothing. The fight against terroists still rings true
Probably the most influential interview I've ever seen.
There's a thing with me and politics, where for me I find myself at that age (or in my terms just my age), not giving a shit about it.
I keep up with it because in general I see the news. How could you not? I understand how important it is. I'm just not at a point where I find it easy to be fascinated by and get involved in.
This interview really gripped me though, I almost wished I was there giving my own views.
It's funny that he's so politically charged but at the same time admits he only really delves into it mentally for around ten minutes a day. That's the real problem, everyone is too fat and happy to change anything. There won't be a real movement to change anything until it becomes more painful not to. And when that time comes it will probably be too late. Not saying we will become totalitarian nations but we are not terribly far away.
Mmm after all that interesting stuff he said it seems that she found some attraction for him yes? :) Hah looks like they're crushing on each other a little? x] Or is it just me?? 0.o Haha imagine what Rachel would say... :} Hahaha FUCK BUSH the devil... Mm I would like to see Thom naked too. xD
The primary problem with this specific interview is that the interviewer doesn't provide empathetic questions regardling the work itself. Just the minor political undertone of it. I love "Hail To the Thief", people shouldn't take the title so seriously.
Radiohead ranks amongst the most influencial band to me personally, but this interview has essentially soiled my view upon Thom Yorke personally. I got the minor political aspects of "Hail To the Thief", but here Yorke blows things out of perspective. "Hail To the Thief" ranks to be my favorite Radiohead album because of how musically diverse and psychologically brilliant it truly is. I was looking forward to an insightful interview regarding the work. Not some leftist political propaganda.
I disagree JesusCritso2002. i think he is not blowing things out of perspective, it is you who is blowing things out of perspective. Leftist political propoganda is not a blanket term that automatically dismisses the argument Thom is making. I recommend you try and be open minded and critically analytical BEFORE dismissing an argument (preferably with your own formulated argument).
Don't get me wrong I respect Thom Yorke-he's the lead voice behind the most inspirational band to me personally. No album other than "Hail To the Thief" and "The Bends", has emotionally and psychologically affected me in a positive way like the musical aesthetic beauty of those pieces of work. Yet, his highly respected image by myself and others shouldn't let him provide negatively pessimistic commentary upon subjective issues such as the U.S.'s political flaws.
@sprayhand i totally agree man. but i gotta say, im not sure if hes quite right up in his noggin. not in a bad way, i love the guy. i dont think anyone is quite right up there. i know im not.
Great little interview wit no big endorsement or anthin like tht. I wonder did they hook up after, she gots the hots 4 him bad, but was he happily married at tht stage?
"but we can chat afterwards of course" haha man, i haven't seen a girl want a famous musician so bad since i saw the john mayer film "where the light is", he's got one particular girl on lock during that as well. But anyways, this entire interview is unbelievable, goes to show that if the interviewer isn't a complete twat the entire experience can be quite pleasant for all parties.
Is she a native German speaker? I took German in college with native German speakers, but their accents in English were not like hers. For those who know, where specifically is she from (region/city if you know)?
I believe she was born in England (London I believe) and moved to Germany around the age of 8 where she received a majority of her education, Somewhere in between she lived in the Netherlands as well. From what I gather she was raised speaking both German and English so I doubt she has mush of an accent in either. I believe she grew up in Mönchengladbach (I'm not entirely familiar with German geography). There you go in case you were still wondering. I know your comment was old.

I have truly never seen Thom Yorke so open and relaxed in an interview. Charlotte Roche is a terrific interviewer.
