  • Yeah the v-nickle was originally minted without the word "cents" on it but they had add it later because people were plating them with gold and passing them off as $5 coins. Nice finds there.

  • Dug my first V last year 1893 at an old school. Thought I'd never find another one. One week later at a friends house I dug 3 of them within 15 minutes around an old oak tree..oldest one 1890 though it took a lot of soaking to finally read the date. I know the feeling. Nice finds...

  • how much was those coins value

  • Awesome! You didn't have to gig too deep for those old coins. Looks like a good hunting place.

  • i have the same shovel goes4ever

  • Not a bad day. Keep swinging!

  • That is awesome.

  • nice v-nickel!! keep it up!!

  • it is easy, mix a spoon of salt in vinegar, and stir till dissolved, place the nickel in the vinegar and swirl around until red starts to disappear, normally only takes 2 or 3 minutes, sometimes less. The remove the nickel and rub baking soda all over the coin. This stops the acidic action of the vinegar. Rinse with water. If it is not clean enough, repeat the process. I cleaned this V nickel by repeating the process a total of 3 times. Took a total of less then 10 minutes........good luck!

  • How did you clean that nickel?! i have some old nickels that i found, i tried everything to clean them, but nothing works. Please share your technique..

  • You really shouldn't clean coins, because then the value of the coin would really decrease.

  • Great job bud!!! Congrats on your first V-Nickel!!!
