Wow, I'm not even going to watch this, based on these comments @Tarhunta and the way you've basically ranted at @wilchild092 and @jpodone11 just displays childish. @jpodone11 I agree, it was pathetic. People are allowed to have opinions you know? it's a free world, if they think that these kids can't sing for shit, then that's their opinion. Also, you were completely unprovoked by @wildchild092, and you basically tried to break 'em down. @wildchild092, keep up your work, this guy's a dick
@Tarhunta, if you can't take criticism without reacting immaturely, YOU are the one who is going to have a hard time in theater. The fact that you dragged that argument out like that is pathetic.
We did this! I was Enjolras ( I was Cosette originally, but when the guy dropped out with a week to go and I was the only one who knew the words, I was recast). I like to think I was better but I was probably about the same. :) Good job!
the only thing i would pose is that Enjolras should probably be done and octave lower, also he annunciate the ends of his words too much especially for being drunk. The harmony on the reds is excellent
@Tarhunta, if trying to dishearten a person who you've never met or seen perform makes you feel better than by all means go ahead. I never stated or suggested that I was on par with RADA trained actors. And to say that Les Mis isn't challenging, dude, have you read the score or even tried some of the physical side, it's hard work, work that these students clearly haven't spent enough time doing. The singing is decent, I never said it was bad, but there's no feeling behind it.
@Tarhunta, I'm sorry that you got offended by my comments. I can understand casting difficulties, as casting our production was extremely hard as well. This is why I was aiming to suggest that more experienced students in terms of musical theatre should play the lead roles, due to the scale of Les Mis as a show. If the students aren't up to that, then maybe something more enjoyable for them is in order, like..hmmm...We Will Rock You or Wicked or something. Again, sorry that you took this wrongly
@wildchild092 You still don't get it, do you? High school theaters, and college theaters, are training programs. The reason you do something challenging (and Les Mis is not challenging at all in the grand theater scheme of things) is to allow students to stretch into roles they won't be able to do professionally for many years. You also suggested that you're on par with RADA-trained actors -- at 18!! Good luck with that ego, dude.
@Tarhunta, if you don't want criticisms or advice then I suggest you disable comments. I never said he didn't have a good voice. I'm just saying that he should probably wait for it to mature first before attempting Enjolras. As for our upcoming performances, I can tell you, that the theatre (yes with proper spelling) world, doesn't know what's coming to it. You wouldn't believe the talent we have in Kuwait. And older men? I didn't know 18 was considered that nowadays.
@wildchild092 If you'll check the comments on this vid, you'll find a lot of criticism I don't respond to. But yours was special. First, high school kids in the US play the roles they're told to play. They don't get a chance not to do a role. Second, I can assure you that the Royal Shakespeare Company won't be over awed by your acting brilliance, however wonderful you think you are. And it's spelled "theater" in the US, except by the pretentious.
@Tarhunta Don't listen to all these so called "experts". This production is not at all bad for a high school production. True many young actors don't have the confidence or singing ability at this stage in their life but is that not the point of doing a production such as this ? To give these young people the experience of acting and singing so that they can learn and progress ? I think this is a very well done High School production !
14 is too young to be playing Enjolras if you ask me. I'm not saying that they guy playing him isn't good, but Enjolras is supposed to sound confident and powerful, ie: not as young. For example, "We need a sign", is extremely flat. In fact all guys in this cast need to work out things to do as opposed to "I'm going to stand up and sing now."
I'm 18 playing Enjolras in production of Les Mis in Kuwait, and I feel no qualms in saying, that our ABC cafe, is way better than this :)
@wildchild092 Well, high schools in the United States don't have a bunch of older men to play these roles, do they? As for your upcoming performance, I'm sure that the entire theater world will be at your feet, and all my Equity friends will be offing themselves from despair at never having the talent to be as brilliant as you.
I'm so jealous of your school, I'd love to do a production of Les Miz. The costumes are brilliant, Enjolras sang really well, you should be really proud!
Same with my school. This generation of kids is just amazing. Out of the people who got the lead rolls, most them made all state for singing, and our band has not got anything but gold since the high school band teacher started teaching here.
Enjolras is just enjolras and Marius is his first name...which is why they call him marius ;) - but his FULL name is MARIUS PONTMERCY which is in the section 'a heart full of love' :D
This is really excellent. Good to see young people involved in something like this given all the bad press they get nowadays - it's a pity the people moaning about today's "younger generation" can't all have a look at this. Well done to all involved!
Oops, I wrote 17 years old in Enjolras, he's 14 not 17, sorry XD...well if he sings like that with 14 years old, then...I give even more the beneficit of the doubt.
Enjolras is not easy character to play tough, he has many interventions in the musical.
I really enjoyed that, Marius was as great as in the other clips, Enjolras was very good, and Grantaire (the drunk one) was funny (also with a good voice)

that is outright butchery of such a timeless classic, such off-key singing and poor acting

@Tarhunta i agree with both of you. However les mis is a truly hard show to perform in at any age, thats like saying cats is an easy show

Who the heck are you to say this is bad? The people on here are trying and they seem to be having fun, and that's what is important.
Sounds corny, I know. But it's true.

I meant the actors' first names. I know Marius and Enjolras
And why would a cyborg be in a high school play? That doesn't even make any sense

I love this song!
Marius is also very handsome.

Not to knock the skill of performers but no one is really singing musically, by that I mean it sounds sort of choppy, and mechanical...
