  • @4028paul

Yeah man I'm with ya on that one!

  • @4028paul I agree with you on that one. I just knew the song....

  • Greatest emo band ever. Hands down.

  • my music taste brings me here Punks not dead

  • @pe4cefrog I just joking)

  • We'd follow Norman anywhere.

  • Norman Reedus brought me here.

  • Like if Norman Reedus brought you here!

  • and i´ll stabb hippies

  • Like the Damned but my two cents on earliest punk: Check out The Kinks "All Day and All of the Night" from 1964. The opening chords sound more like 1976-7 punk to me than "My Generation." The Kinks punched holes in their amplifier with a knitting needle, cool.

  • Thumbs up if Craig Ferguson's Playboy interview mention brought you here! <3

  • @SteeltownAllie Yup. :-)

  • that's why I'm here

  • I love the Damned, the Adicts, the Misfits, the Sex Pistols, the Dead Kennedys, the Ramones, the Clash, the Circlejerks, as well as new punk bands like Rancid and NOFX.

  • im 14, own Damned but not forgotten, and noticed my fav. song isnt on it. You must understand my predicament.

  • I'm in China and we love to punk

Je lis un livre sur l'histoire du heavy metal pour me cultiver :-)))

  • and what...just means you have great taste...even with bad quality ...best effn stttttttt of all time..........

  • According to Johnny Rotten The Stooges and the New York Dolls started bunk.

  • @roboimp Have a nice bunk...

  • @shareacanon I meant punk haha woops.

  • Well we know where My Chemical Romance were copying from now...

  • @mtrickett1 They sure as hell aren't copying this!

  • Hey, folks? Stop handing out hundreds of thumbs up to completely pointless, stupid, self-whoring comments. Thanks.

  • @xreddragonx You mean like yours?

  • @flugelhornjesus Brilliant "come back" there, dickless. Was I bragging about being 15 and listening to music "that no1 at my skool doez!!"? That's pointless self-whoring. And I would already have 30 thumbs up if I had posted shit like that.

  • Yeah, Yeah Yeah, NO?! *L*

  • Actually THE WHO was the first punk band. They just evolved every album til' Moon's death. BTW "punk" is a attitude not a sound of music. Example- Johnny Cash. Oh yeah, The Damned fucking ROCK!!

  • @hotgold9 The Who were no punk band. They were just one of the earliest to influence the punk "attitude".

  • @xreddragonx The Who's first record my generation was a punk album but after that they were rock/ hard rock but there still good though, mc5, stooges, the who, velvet underground the kinks alice cooper etc's all helped paved the way for punk rock.

  • They're playing the Wickerman festival in Dumfies And Galloway this year :-) Another great Punk act to tick of my list XD

  • the singer looks so goth

  • Forget the discussion about "first punk band"-better say: THIS was the first PUNK-Band I`ve heard...

  • this is definitelty my favorite damned song!!!!

  • This one sounds a bit like bad brains...

  • Yawn....forget V U and Mr Reed. Punk was a movement

  • @kabulpete - so why did legs McNeil choose Lou Reed to grace the cover of Punk Magazine Vol1, No.1?

Punk would have never happened without bands like VU, Stooges, MC5, Suicide and NY Dolls, among others who laid the groundwork.

  • @bantyeggses Ya know who the first punk band were then ??? THE STONES ... they influenced all of them.

It was thier attitude, plus all original punk was, was speeded up aggressively played rhythm n blues !! Even Brian James said that !

  • @psychodamned The Stones are even worst choice. Seriously no. Hardly anyone considers them protopunk.

  • @gordyuk68

Not quite, the first punk band was The Velvet Underground, Although their first album was groundbreaking, the first true punk song was off their 2nd album, the song was "Sister Ray".

  • @rokoholik22 It's the same deal with me. Haha.

  • Neat Neat Neat - The Damned [London, England] - 1977 - "AMG Pick. Captain Sensible's purring snarl of a bass line kicks it off and then the whole band cranks it and is gone. ...became just as well-known a punk anthem for the band and the U.K. scene as a whole. Brian James (UK punk rock guitarist) penned song. - Damned Damned Damned [30th Anniversary Expanded Edition] (Castle US) (Disc 1)-2007. NOTE: Just get the single CD version and you won't be missing much.

  • the first couple of chord punk song was my generation the who

  • OMG-The ORIGINAL Damned line up!! James/Sensible/Vanian/Scabies!

Thanks to whoever posted this. Been a fan all my life but never thought I would get to see this line up ever!!

    Respect!!!!x

  • @gordyuk68 ... heard of the Sonics? Argument will never reach a conclusion. Love the MC5 but they didn't start with a blank sheet of paper.

  • @kjmacphee YES , The Sonics , thank you. But , it's too easy to start there .They were inspired , like any Northwest band worth it's salt , by The Wailers , who started in '57 or early '58 , and are considered by many to be the first Punk band , also Link Wray and The Wraymen. Lest we forget , too , all the great mid 60's Garage bands , along w/Sonics , that influenced The Damned and other bands with a clue. That's where Naz Nomad came from , but , no Hipster cred , no relevance.

  • Man, they were awesome. Rat Scabies sounds like Keith Moon!

  • @12toedfeet Y'know I have a feeling that it could either be Dave Burke or Jon Moss on drums here ??? I think Rat had left around this time ??

  • best place to see em live is the barrowlands in Glasgow excellent gigs always

  • Without The Damned life would be dull as a murky pond with rubbish in it.

I seriously cannot constrain myself at their gigs and anyone looking at the top video will see why. They are the best band of all time ever and always and thank god they are still going strong. Am mightily glad they're not too big though as it always feels such a privilidge seeing them at relatively intimate venues with a nicely sized mosh pit. Ace to find there are others here who think the same. huzzah for the damned!

  • CAptain Sensible...great!

  • Brian James, YUM! We are your real fan club!

  • Brian James, YUM! Best punk band ever!

  • Brian James, YUM!

  • My bus driver recommended this band to me...and they kick ass! so I fave this

  • Great Band !!!!

  • Click click.

  • you know they played an early gig together with skrewdriver ? :D

  • @artofspraypaint

Yeah, but that was before Skrewdriver was a white power band.

  • Glad they didn't become facist/racist fucks like skrewdriver

  • cptn playing bass????

  • is that brian james

  • Yep.

  • true that man true that. i dig this shit...no whiney poppy "punk" groups out there today can even fucking compare. punk can never ever be replicatedand will never die

  • The vibe in 1977 when this and the Pistols came out was something else. Never been anything like it since.

  • that first album really woke up all the boring old farts who over produced and over priced them self's.. we need it again, punk that is ! ! still listen to the first album all the time and it sounds great now just like it did back then in 77 .

  • they started a bit of the goth thing

  • love this song, I have seen the damned three times, they are amazing live!

  • This is it! The absolute shit! I mean like a love the Clash and The Adverts, but these mates are surely the ultimate brittish punks. Sex Pistols? Yeah fuck, forget about them, all sold out... Popband...

  • Any good?

Im seeing them tonight in Newport.

Leaving in an hour or so :D

  • Epic =)

  • "It was the sex pistols, it was the ramones, who the fuck cares its fucking music!"

  • Iggy Pop, the Kinks, and the Velvet Underground get no love. if not "punk" enough for you, they at least influences the hell out of whoever you all else think is the first

  • you know what your talking about.:)

  • Nah, nah, nah...the first punk band was the Bay City Rollers! Just look at the tartan!

  • WHo gives a sh*t who the first punk band was. The fact is that The Damned is the most underrated rock band of all time. They deserve to be playing to U2 sized crowds. But unfortunately people are more interested in listening to rip-off bands like Muse and Wolfmother than listening to truly genuine bands like The Damned.

  • The Stones were the First proto punk band, n Orbison was the first Goth.

But the first n best identifiable punk band was The Damned !

  • the damned weren`t the first punk band and neither was the ramones the first punk band to release a record was the rezillos from scotland sorry to burst your bubble then its the saints from australia.......a punk fan

  • The first punk band was....The Fags

  • no man, the ramones and the saints were the first to form a punk band circa 1974 blitzkrieg bop was released february of 1976 yet im stranded was released september of 1976. but they were the leading punk bands.

  • @davysaltcoats Wrong - The Ramones were a band and were recording before the Rezillos. The Ramones even recorded before The Saints did, but all this is almost irrelevant as none of the aforementioned were anywhere near being the first punk band. Punk music - its attitude, its noise, its anger, its look can be traced back to the mid-1960s, but it really morphed into a genre in late 1960's Detroit - much in the same way Heavy Metal can traced - its genre defining city being late 1960's Birmingham.

  • @MissEgasMoniz first punk band was called MC5 they formed in 1965 and inspired the stooges and ramones too

  • @gordyuk68 Yes indeed - The MC5 are among the genre's definers - no argument there. They were a true musical assembly of anarchy when the status quo was peace, love and some other boring bullshit.

  • seeing them on november 24th!

  • The Damned were the best punk band by a country mile !

  • i was there in 76 leslie arms croydon the dog and bull surrey street it was like just there what else was around you just went no brains or thought you just went and enjoyed got pissed and avoided the teds and the black gangs unless you were all tooled up and in a mob it was a scene and yiu drifted out of it 30 years on the people who wernt there say they was and give it arty farty balls it was fun while it lasted

  • not a huge punk fan but They're not too bad
