  • ilan is my cusin haha :)

  • Ilan has much better feel and groove than Josh Freese.

That makes him better, because the main thing for a drummer to have is feel and groove.

  • You're a fucking moron. By Freese's own admission, he's got nothing on Ilan Rubin.

  • omfg i luv lostprophets i was at their consert on 13/8/08 best consert of my life

their touring again this year about the same time cos the new albums ready :D

  • ilan rubin is waaaaay better than freese... you'rejudging a guy who's turning 21 in june against someone who's had a life time of drumming, ilan rubin owns josh's ass already, wait till his age, he'll just be god like lol

  • You know, Ilan would never agree with you on that.

  • yeah because he's modest and probably doesn't rate himself anyways

i'll have to admit since that comment i've seen some more vids of freese and he is pretty darn amazing

but like scottydoont said, he has so much energy on stage but still keeps it solid. he puts on a performance whilst still playing awesome. i think he's just gunna get better and better. easy better than freese too. but that's just my opinion

  • Saw nin play at soundwave on sunday night. Seriously... he was so solid. He absolutely rocked. Im a Freese fan from way back. Anything he touches turns to gold hence why he's such an in demand session drummer. But Rubin really suprised me he had so much energy. Good choice i say.

  • 'He's avant garde!'

    HAHAHAH. :D

No amount of bitching is going to stop him playing in NIN. I don't believe that he's a bad drummer. I highly doubt that this solo was to the best of his ability. Even if people are saying he's inexperienced, it means that he'll improve.

But I think this means that NIN are going to have a surge in popularity from Lostprophets fans.

  • i think you should track ilans career a little bit more closely. he has way more talent than alot of drummers today actually have. this is a crappy solo, granted- but you should check all of his stuff out before you go judging on someone that would shut you up in a heartbeat

  • Now Mike Chiplin should go back to Prophets :D

  • seriously. he's good but and i trust reznors judgement in finding a good fit for the band. but as a percussionist saying ilan rubin can fill the shoes of josh is like saying jon theodore could fill the shoes of thomas pridgen.

  • john replace thomas? isn't it the other way around?

  • yeah thomas pridgen replaced john in tmv. but i was talking about john not being able to fill the shoes of thomas.

  • I agree with most of the previous posts. He's ok but comparing him to Josh is like comparing Filet Mignon and Flank Steak....not even close.

  • He's not good, just average... by far Josh is much better than this young guy.

  • I am amazed at how you can come to that conclusion after watching a 50 second vid taken by a shitty cell phone. Besides, take it up with Trent Reznor. He's the one who said Ilan can fill Josh's shoes.

  • it wasn't a cell phone, shitty or otherwise!

    ...and it's 2 mins 12 seconds not 50 seconds :p

i think he's very talented, and personally i think his drum solo was great,,,

plus hes a lovely person too (i've met him)

  • God lostprophets sound like drunk welsh guys in a bar in this video

  • Jesus Christ. No wonder Trent picked him up for next year. I never heard of him specifically, until now.

    Wow.

  • He maybe good, but no way is he any match for Josh Freese.

Hes just a young, fairly inexperienced, half-decent drummer. I don't know how he's guna cope with all the fucked up time signatures and crazy beats NIN come up with. Still, the line-up seems to have got progressively worse and I think Trent needs to re-think it soon otherwise its not guna be the live NIN we used to know and love.

  • He played woodstock when he was 11 (Y)

    He's been playing for ages.

  • I saw them twice this year and i was sorely dissapointed. I'm also a drummer. This kid is alright but he's not even to be compared to josh freese's finger! Both times that i saw them they played the same shitty ass fucking lineup. All the songs they played mere shells of their original. No cool noises, no emotion. The songs sound fucking HORRIBLE on guitar. His voice also isn't the same, and he doesn't try. AND the lineup of songs they played was predictable, shitty and boring. i'm a sad fan. :(

  • I'll say it again, write Trent Reznor an email, and tell him he fucked up royally. Tell him that he doesn't know what he's talking about and the Ilan is a shitty replacement for Josh Freese. I seriously doubt you saw Lostprophets twice this year and watched closely to what Ilan was doing. But, again, tell Reznor his judgement sucks.

  • Like I told the other guy, take it up with Trent Reznor. Hell, go argue with him. He's the one that thinks that Rubin can, in fact, do the job. Irregular time signatures and crazy beats are what Ilan is known for, so I'd say Reznor hit it on the "nail".

  • OMG That was Friggin awesome

  • Fuck he's good :D
