no one could get the conviction behind a song as good as meat loaf can. i have listened to his music all my life and i have seen him live he is Epic. when you listen to him close your eyes and realy listen its like he's talking the words to you like he would a personal story from his life. thats why meat loaf will always be heard by people around the world
You can split this song and make 3 different songs out of it ... and they all wound sound completely different. That's Jim Steinman songwriting. Too bad Meat and Jim do not team up for just one more album ...
@CDeanWatcher there was a band called Pandora's Box that did this song as well... it's pretty fracking awesome!!!!! If you like Taylor Dayne, you'll like that version as well!!
@pclarky007 Jim Steinman wrote 2 songs on that album, he also did "Left In The Dark" aswell. But I do agree with the best song on the CD, and one of the best by Meat Loaf
@pclarky007 original is not the only song on welcome to the neighbourhood written by jim steinman the other one is left in the dark if you believe me check it
When 'TdV' came out, a friend of mine who has played in many German/Swiss/Austrian musicals let me hear the music to it, as he was going to audition. I instantly went: That's Jim Steinman's music, and started to sing the 'original' songs along to the musical songs. My friend himself didn't notice until then and chuckled.
He didnt get a part, but did end up in 'Die Kleine Horrorladen' and 'Deep' amongst others. :-)
Tbh whilst i like this version Pandora's Box has a lot more life to it. He sounds like he's just riding along with the song here, perhaps why it didn't come out as a single? He usually takes control of the tempo pretty well too :(
In any case, def worth checking out PB's version if you like the song.
@TheGreatestRockSongs I'm not sure it's his best. But it certainly is deserving as being known as one of his best. It's a shame that it's a song that's so unknown by most people.
@pscott90 Actually it's not his song so he couldn't publish it as a single, the original was recorded by "Pandora's Box" back in 1989 on the "Original Sin" album... I for one like the original better than Meat Loaf's version...
It's a great song. I have this album too. But it was a surprise, when i heard the song in german in the musical "Tanz der Vampire" and it was also great ! ( sorry for my bad english )
This brings back so many good times at Blackpool Pleasure beach watching the show Mystique at the Horseshoe bar. There was a fabby singer who performed this.
lol funny you should say that, i thought i was the only one in the world who made that connection, aye mystique ROCKED i seen it soooo many times and still loved it, shame its gone,

Not one of his best but an excellent version, my preference is the Taylor Dayne version but this is a very close second.

I think the "Pandora's Box" version is better. Also the different versions in "Tanz Der Vampire"
If you like the song I suggest you give em a listen :o)
