I really hate directors who squander their time with shitty action flicks that no one remebers. Ridley goes for drama and emotion in film, never just a cgi bunch of crap.
@Statistic100 The quality of his work has diminished, robin hood -so what...no humour or real engagement on the way he interprets week scripts, james cameron tells better stories, beginning middle and end.
@karlydoc Very true, I agree to an extent. His earlier work was much better. It's not that his films are bad now, there just a bit pompus, thats what I think.
Mdeia students?? who are they..same as art students..sorry but if your good enough you will film anything..take a walk down to your local park through woods along highstreet. If you have the eye to make something come alive from very liuttle then youll be good.being a student doesnt make it any better..just makes u understand the camera workings.
Some times its about resources mate, going to film school is never going to push anyone into the industry, but it acts as a good stepping stone to learn the fundamentals and possible make some contacts.
Hes a great inspiration, just makes it hard to believe that i even have a shot at filming anything in my life including me theres gota be hundreds if not thousands of media students
ive worked with him twice, a very very serious man on set indeed, quick, productive and a true director, if you wanna be a director i couldnt think of a more appropriot hero.
You can sense his commitment, seroiusness of purpose and, ultimately, humbleness in his repect to What It Takes To Be A Filmmaker; to walk the walk; to get it done the best you can which he has and mastered. Without a doubt an example to follow and admire.

A bit schmaltzy and flowery, dear chris. He's a good and experienced director, whos films will certainly be remembered. Heart? Soul? I dont think "Sir" Ridley Scott would use that words for himself or his work. He seems to be more about working efficiently, telling the story well, and having an extraordinary amount of preparedness...in terms of is pre-visualization (before it was a household term) of the final product.
fascinating
