  • I remember how exciting Lene was in Europe circa '81. She WAS Sarah Bernhardt come alive, with what was then a embryonic Goth sensibility. She made her statement and never faultered...that her art should never die.

  • Use to have this on 12 '...... gee's what ever happend to all my albums... The 80's - great time for music.

  • Great version!!!

  • Can the youth of today experiance what we felt in the 80s? Back then i guess we had a feeling of being unique, huge choice of music and styles. I want some feedback, am i just getting old and reminissing? Hip hop, new wave, reggae, hard rock, new age, synth pop, i miss the soap in my hair hahahaha,, screw gel

  • Never stopped playing this at the time of release , Brilliant ...

  • I LOVE HER!!!!!

  • The dutch band The Meteors did this song in the eighties.

  • I literally WORE OUT the vinyl of this cut on the record. Played it at almost the end of every night I Dj'd.

I don't mind Gwen S. because G's voice is similar.

  • The 80's video craz brought out so much talent from all over the world(sure their was some god awful stuff),

it was great to be young back in those days

thanks to the likes of Lene Lovich for being so

unique and daring one of a kind artist

  • wow!! i never really really loved a Lovich song like this i mean i love her and i grew up with listening to lucky # and new toy but this is like more of my taste in music she prety cool..

  • CruiserLeo, thanks for this very cool vid. I've loved Lene for years, and it was such a treat seeing this collage of images of her. She always wore some WEIRD sh*t, but that was part of her charm. I always loved the "Stateless" cover, where she was wearing that cool jacket, and you could actually see that she was quite beautiful!

  • Dallas was fortunate to have a 'modern music' station in the 80s that played a lot of Lene Lovich, including a version similar to this. I remember seeing the 12" in record store back then. I sure wish I would have picked it up. I'm sure they're long gone....

  • I am from Dallas. Which station are you referring too? 94.5? I am sure I will remember it if I am reminded of it.

  • back during the 80's there were stations like KNON with forbiden Plant, 88.7 had a show, there were dj's like miss melissa, jeff kaye, on the edge club, and always Jeff's special dj's each week.. im from Ft worth, i have many tape recording of those radio show in storage..

  • I be damn...I have alot of edge club on cassette as well..I used to push record then go to bed, get up 45 minutes later then flip the other side over then push record again. I usually had to work the next morning and I had no idea what I had recorded until the next day when I listened to it. Great days those were.

  • @GaryG660 Got 3 clean 12" copies of It's You Lene Lovitch do you need 1 ?

  • @djscotty1111 That would be awesome. Would be glad to buy one from you and pay shipping. Message me direct, if you want.

  • I'm a brown eyed man loving her baby blues....

  • One of those 80's classic recordings: Our beloved Lene with her: IT'S YOU, ONLY YOU !!!!!!!!!!!!

  • If anyone EVER finds a definitive source (not long-gone) for this mind-blowing version of this track, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE post such info here!!! WE ALL MUST HAVE IT!!! Seriously. I'm not kidding now. Consider it a matter of life or death, okay? For reals.

  • Back in 1982 I bought the cassette of "No Mans Land" and this particular version was located on the flip side, the very last song on that side. I have the 12" "Mix Masters" version of this which was basically a mix of the vocal and the dub version. There was something about the dub version I liked better. I have since then lost the cassette (Idiot I am) and for years have looked for this version and accidently came across it on a music website years ago. It is a rare track indeed.

  • I can't find any reference to the cassette version of "No-Man's-Land" having this version on it, but I'll take your word for it. But where am I gonna find one of those? The vinyl LP sure doesn't have it; I already own that. And Napster is obviously out of the question. I've just ordered a 12" vinyl 'Maxi-Single' of "It's You" from an eBayer in Kentucky (I'm in L.A.). It's got 2 versions: "Extended Dance Mix - 5:38", and "Version - 5:50". I'm HOPING that "5:50" is this one!! We'll see!

  • Some cassettes back then were rare in the fact they had extra space left over so dub versions of certain songs were added. Like this cassette (No Mans Land), I bought a Thompson Twins cassette that had dub and extended versions on the B side but when you buy the cd of the same name today those versions are gone. I certainly hope the vinyl you bought on Ebay is the version your looking for. The length is about the same as this one so lets hope. If not, there is an alternative way for you to it.

  • Yeah; but I don't think it was just because there was extra space on a tape. They could spool on as much (or more) as any given album needed, up to a point. So the record companies were actively trying to get people to buy mutiple formats of any given LP release. Especially true for cassette tape format releases, which never sold as well as vinyl LPs. "Bonus Tracks" available on one format, but not on another, were a slick way to entice additional sales of a given LP. Marketing ploy.

  • It occurred to me that the 'dead air' time at the beginning and end of your video may account for the discrepancy between the '6:04', and "5:50" times. Actual track time on your video sounds more like 5:50. So I'm hopeful. But if I'm not that lucky; who do you want killed (in L.A.), for a burned CD copy of this?? Which I may want regardless; since yours seems totally devoid of any tape hiss or warbles, or vinyl pops or clicks. I wonder where Napster got it. It's sooo crisp and clean!

  • LOL. Killing anyone in L.A. (although Paris Hilton and a few others come to mind), will not be necessary. And I must agree with you on the formats of cassette they used back then. I remember the Thompson Twins cassette I referred to earlier was a "Double Cassette". Meaning one cassette with double the space: side A had the whole album on it, side B for extended remixes and dub versions. If the vinyl you bought is not what you were looking for, I will be than happy to send the mp3 to you.

  • That would be awesome! Thanks!! I'll certainly let you (and everybody else that might ever want this version of this track) know if that particular vinyl pressing has it, as soon as I get it. I actually found several copies of that pressing listed on eBay; so it seems easier to find than a cassette. And anyway; just about any format would be preferable to a 27-year-old tape! I just can't imagine that this killer version was released NOWHERE but on that cassette. We shall see...

  • WOW! Beyond superb!

  • Favorite version! Too bad I can't find it anywhere. :(

  • Nice find, this is a very rare extended play version, and probably her best song. Too bad I can't record it.

  • EMO???

    What are you talking about?

This kind of music is called 'NEW WAVE'.

EMO is some kind of bastardized version.

  • This was 1982: Disco was dead, the pop sound was changing to "bubblegum pop", and rock was going mainstream and there was no such thing as alternative...then this "New" sound appeared: danceable, lots a synth and drum machines with a hint of guitar....it was called "New Wave". This was the dawning of "Flock of Seagulls", "Human League". "Thomas Dolby". "Talk Talk" etc. "New wave" was an entity all to itself. I was 18 when this song was released. The 80's were the best as far as music goes.

  • New wave or really no wave. Wall of Voodoo were lumped in that New Wave and they were perplexed by it.

  • Visionary Wave works for me.

  • @CruiserLeo2007 actually new wave came in around 1977-1978-1979.yes i was there, and no,blondie was not punk.they were new wave.

  • I don't care what they say about the 80's! Never has there been a decade with so many oringinators!

  • Very, very good Remix and great video. THX! for posting. :-)

  • Goddess Lene - I always loved this song :)

  • The song is from a Dutch band, The Meteors

  • Great video here!! fantastic images of Lene!!

What an original voice and performer she is!!

    *****

  • Her music is immortal. Lene is the Queen of goth and no one can compete.

  • @feriwarlock you know that she really wasn't "goth".

  • @punkgirlphoto Yes, but she could rightly be called a proto-goth. So many hints in her style. Alice Cooper too, and even Black Sabbath, bands that never said "Goth," but provided the fertile ground for it.

  • Three hundred years from now they'll look back and be like, Britney who? But Lene will still be adored. Can't say I'm crazy about these extended remixes, though, too much filler.

  • Totally agree with you there. I infact only know her via Thomas Dolby so hardly know of her back catalogue, but when looking at all the modern female solo pop singers since 1981 I can see who they are getting their inspiration from. Apart from Kate Bush who stands on a totally different Mountain!

  • I absolutely agree. Even today with all recording and sampling innovations kate bush and peter g.'s music still totally holds its own in production value. And one can forget about comparisons with song writing most people won't ever be in their class.

  • In some parts the song sounds pretty close to The Teardrop Explodes (horn section) :)

  • Only discovered this version this year. So different to the single version in parts. This one is a bit more synthy, I ADORE it... Such a hard hitting, pulsating beat, perfect rhythm and remarkable single ***LOVE U LENE***

  • Music was so intersting and fun back then. MTV was actually cool back then when it lived up to it's name. Now it is crap reality shows.

  • AMEN!@crap reality shows. Sad thing is, it isn't even 'real'. If they still made music like they did back then, there would be no need for the garbage reality shows. People would actually watch for the music and not the garbage.

  • U rite!

  • Interesting remix!

Lene is so electric and amazing LIVE too! Just love her and her music energy so much!

  • Excellent!

  • Awesome!!!

Where can I get this version???

    Love her music.

  • I downloaded this version many, many moons ago on Napster...when it was new & free lol. It was, however on the "No Mans Land" cassette upon release. Not sure where you can get it now.

  • I guess I'll have to do my own research. I'm sure if I dig, I'll find it.

Thanks. She was quite special, wouldn't you agree?

  • Was???!!! she is still with us and still performing!!! lol. don't write the poor lady off as buried. :-)

  • Thanks. Im sure I'll find it somewhere.

She was quite special, wouldn't you agree?

  • Sorry for the double posts. Sometimes it looks like it didn't take your comment, then it's there all of a sudden. Anyway, thanks.

  • lol np. And yes she is quite special, releasing a new album soon as a matter of fact I believe. Good luck on your search. Hope you find it.

  • nice one thanks.

  • Glad you like it, thanks!

  • Love this song and this version
