Unlike other games/movies when they kill the main character unnecessarily, Kratos committing suicide was the perfect way to end, it wouldn't have worked any other way. If you watch the post-credits scene you'll see that Kratos' body is missing so maybe he isn't dead? Or maybe he is and his body got taken away by the gravedigger to be buried alongside his mother and brother, God of War IV will tell all.

@bossfight1 Hehe, that is exactly what I said when I saw kratos stabs himself but I think the reason is obvious: After pandora's death, he realized that everything he had done has caused nothing but havoc to the world and suffering to those ones he loves (pandora between them) so he decided to change this giving "hope" to the world to repair his errors. At least for me, that is the reason.

They had already referenced the end of the first God of War when Kratos was trapped inside his own mind. @9100040000 man, I thought the same thing! but in my version. Kratos had a son with Aphrodite after that wild sex, and with the help of Chaos, that son kills a commander of an army that tried to make an empire, then, in part 2, Chaos betray him and end up dying in his hand =P

@Trent0196 Yeah his blodo just happened to move across the cliff, and his body happened to have vanished from said pool of blood. And Hades and Olympus are both fcked, plus he has escaped death literally three times straight, so even if he is dead which he is not; where is he going?

@lolidestroyallofu You're missing the point. I didn't say where is he going now that he's done with Zeus. I'm pointing out the fact that even if you kill Kratos, where would he go? Olympus is in ruins and Hades is unleased on the earth, plus even when both Olympus and the realm of Hades were in check, Kratos escaped on more than two occasions also consuming the soul of Hades himself. I never said jack about future ideas for the supposed GoW4.

Like in the first God of war, Kratos wanted to kill himself, but the gods didnt allow him to end his own life after all he had done.
Now that he had forgave himself for the deeds he did to his family, and destroyed the gods that betrayed him he decided to end this, once and for all.
He is dead, you just need to understand his motivations.
His quest started when he was saved from drowning by the gods, and ended by finally by jumping off.

@Karin1369 It annoys me when people say he jumped off the cliff. That doesn't make any sense, why would he jump off the cliff after he had already mortally wounded himself with the blade of olympus. They had already referenced the end of the first God of War when Kratos was trapped inside his own mind. The game creators where obviously hinting at something else, not him committing suicide after he had already supposedly committed suicide in the final scene of the game with Athena.

Really the ending of God of War is one of the best and Epic endings i have seen in a long long time.
Santa Monica Studio has done there zelfs this time with God of War 3

@TheGamer4EverNL Well, to be sincere, at the first time I said "what?" when I saw kratos stabbing himself but now I see it was a good ending for the spartan. Finally, he got what he always wants: Peace for his haunted soul. However, it is possible that this is not the last time we'll see kratos because his body is not seen at the end of the game and the world is in chaos so who knows?

@STR33TSofJUST1C3 yeah but do you remember the story of achilles? he was dipped into the river styx from head to toe except for his heel.....Kratos could be immortal if the developers take that into account....i mean he was COMPLETELY SUBMERGED in the river styx in the beginning of the game.

@STR33TSofJUST1C3 hades was a god and therefore had immortality. but when he lost his soul he lost his immortality. and was still unaffected by the river styx. kratos not being immortal in the first place, could gain immortality from the river styx, Im just stating something that couldnt be impossible. i mean how did he get up with a huge hole in his chest. he pretty much bled out on mount olympus.
