  • He had encephalitis , it had been in him unnoticed for several weeks to months, that is what caused his seizure and caused him to fall in the pool and drown. It's likely even if he had not drowned the disease would have killed him.

  • I found the death of this bear very disconcerting after seeing a handful of youtube videos about him and I felt the info displayed to mass media was very vague so I googled more info about him on wikipedia and found it answered all of my questions and maybe will answer yours if u have any ... It wont let me pst a link on here but if u wikipedia (Knut, Polar Bear) u will find what I did and It's definitely worth the read.

  • @wild1033 because he was raised by humans he was abandoned as a cub

  • they killed this damn bear. After getting 9 million dollars from using him as an nadvertisement draw! I hope my landlord in the projects don;t kill me because i'm too big for my apartment with a mate/ Polar bears don't die like that. in the video where is was killed it looked like he was drugged and confused and he fell in the water. • so his keeper died and that traumatized him now they're thinking of giving him the flick? heartless tw@s.

  • I would support moving him to an enclosure that was big enough for him. I highly doubt that they're doing this for self-interested reasons, he makes them LOTS of money.

  • dont let him go!he's young!besides he has no fcking survival skills!if you kill him,i keel you!

  • I haf a knut stuffed animal =D

  • fcking assholesssssssssss all they ever cared about was the money then not knut!

  • Ka-noot? Haha. First it was "noot", now it's "ka-noot". Now, let's try one last time: KNUT. K + N. Knut. Or Knoot, if you must.

  • welcome to sweden knut!!

  • molonate your a dumbass he wont die he will survie its called natural instict

  • @MegaMysteryMen but it takes MORE than sheer instinct, mother bears TEACH the cubs to hunt and fish, most of what an animal knows IS TAUGHT BY THE MOTHER, Knut was HAND rased by HUMANS not bears, he has little hunting skills, definatly not enough to survive, and another, what if he sees a person, wants to just say hi, but they kill him thinking he's gonna kill them!?

  • @MegaMysteryMen I think you are the dumbass and have never taken a fucking biology class.

  • did knut ever leave just wondering?

  • after having him there for so long its a ridiculous idea to move him. thats all he's known. moving him now could cause unsettlement and violence in him. hoping to get to see him 1 day whereva he may be :-)

  • Ka-noot? AP reporter fail.

  • No he didnt learn how to hunt!

  • dont let him go he have no chance of surviving!! how do i sign the petition!?!?!

  • It's not kuh-noot. it's Noot, spelled Knut.

  • @PsychoBoar actually in germany it IS pronounced that way!~

  • shame on the zoo they need to make knut more space.

  • Lol don't talk on the internet if you don't want people to say something moron. Or at least have something intelligent to say, jesus.

  • stop being selfish. If a ZOO is admitting they can no longer care for an animal then it's probably really bad. Those people just want to see Knut on their regular zoo visits thats why they made a petition. Pure selfishness, I didn't hear about them releasing him to the wild, but a bigger zoo with a breeding program. So they can sell his babies and zoos can make more money under the label of 'education'

  • @Little123Fizz yeah he should be in a bigger zoo so he's free to roam around, but i think they want to mate him because polar bears are going extinct

  • If they released him into the wild he would die. He would have no survival skills because he was raised in captivity. :(

  • @molonate

exactly, he's been raised from the very beginning in captivity...if he were taken later in life, he might be able to get those instincts back, but he'd have no chance. I'm all for re-releasing animals back into the wild, they should never be put in captivity in the first place...but in this case, we've already tampered with nature, we can't undo it.

  • That is sad... after making so much money out of this bear, the zoo can't even shell out what he has earned for a better upkeep.

  • what idiot cuts off a 9 million dollar stream of revenue? Let the bear stay lol

  • @dom214 9 billion bro

  • @dom214 The same idiots who invade Russia during the winter!

  • @dom214 One other video on youtube tells that the attraction had worn off, and budget problem was cited as the reason for the Zoo to try to sell Knut.

  • 'fully grown at 440 lbs' what an ignorant asshole ! In this clip Knut is said to be 2 years old, still a cub ! HE WILL NOT BE FULLY MATURE UNTIL AROUND 8 YEARS OLD ! At which time he will weigh a typically CAPTIVE weight of around 1000 lbs.....

  • holy shit thats heavy lol. They should let the guy stay and i agree he is an ignorant asshole and i would like to punch him in the face and make him let the bear stay.

    LET THE BEAR STAY

    LET THE BEAR STAY

    LET THE BEAR STAY!!!!!!!

  • Yes, and in the wild they can exceed 1500 lbs. This commentator is ridiculous for saying a male polar bear is fully grown at 440 lbs !

  • holy mother of god thats huge!! but still they might be big but they are so cute!!

  • Cant they build a polar bear exhibit,as popular as that polar bear is the german people and people around the world wouldnt mind paying for it.

  • Additionally, if the concern is in response to the animal's ability to adapt to the wild, I wouldn't worry too much about it.

It doesn't look as though they plan to introduce it to the wild. However, even if they did, there are plenty of competent facilities that specialize in doing just that, which have had admirable success.

  • you sound like you kno a little about zoos and animals so thats why i ask why cant the zoos just like capture all the polar bears and like make a cold place for them inside the zoos across the world i mean it would save them from global warming rite?

  • It may save them from global warming but polar bear surve a purpose in the wild just like all animals do take them all away and it would distrupt the natural order in that area. All we can do is keep up smart breeding programs and care for the ones we have.

  • I don't see what the problem is. The zoo clearly has the animal's best interest in mind. The compound is not large enough to house an animal of his size, and so they are considering different options in order to accommodate this.

Like it or not, zoos will continue to exist. Aside from their obvious potential for monetary gain (as this video describes), zoos have considerable educational resources to offer.

The best we could hope for is that they care about their animals' quality of life.

  • continued...life. It is probably confusing and distressing to the bear as much as anything else. Being damned domesticated, catered to a put in a zoo, he has not leanred how to naturally lok after himself which would have been shown to him by his natural family in the WILD. Imagine this way of life. He is unaccustomed to it. This kind of change is bound to cause issues, pluse being shuttled from zoo to zoo. I hope God interves in this situation to make a good life for Knut somewhere.

  • And also think about the bear itself. How can an animal raised in the environment of a zoo be expected to adapt to a wild environment with no problems/trauma/confusion etc. These animals and indeed many others particularly those raised in domestic environments are going to have issues having been looked after all their life to going to fending for themselves. It is a complete change to them, and not something they are likely to just snap into based on their previous environenment and way of

  • continued...environment. If you take an animal like this out of it's natural environment there are bound to be issues occuring at some stage down the line. A Wild animal, especially of this nature is NOT meant to be raised in captitivity. End of. So these things are just waiting to happen, and it is so so because the whole thiing would have been completely avoidable if people would just have thought about if for five minutes instead of acting on a short term and impulsive plan.

  • That should be the main issue here. To stop other people and/or zoo making the same mistake. The issue is he should not be in a zoo in the first place. This sort of situation is inevitable in the first place by putting a WILD animal in the zoo. At some point, people's life circumstances and that of the zoo will change. They will not want to continue the upkeep of the animal, and not support it for the long run. The issue is caused in the first place by taking the bear out of it's natural

  • A polar bear is for life not just for Christmas. The trouble is these idiots do not think of that or have any genuiine concern for the acutal polar bear other then as a money spinner. And with £9million, who are you kidding. You could build a whole new area with CLEAN water and feed and bring in people to look after knut with that money. The process of putting an animal in the 'zoo' in it's unatural environment is immoral and wrong in the first place anyway. That should be the main issue

  • £9 millin and they can't look after him. It is a shame and a disgrace on the zoo. what might have seemed a good idea some years back bringing a polar bear to the zoo does not work. These are wild animals, and as such it is very hard to domesticate them and then introduce them tot he wild, there are too many issues. A polar bear should not be in a zoo in the first place, no matter how 'cute' he/she might look. They are wild animals. Also if the zoo is going to do it, it is for life

  • All the zoo used Knut for was money from his baby stage. It is so sad that he might leave his home. I should ask the people at that zoo if they would throw their children out on the street, if they knew they couldn't fend for themselves. But I can't speak German, of course.

  • I bet if his trainer was still alive they would not even think about it.

  • I feel sooooooo bad for Knut. I could just cry at this. It's like they're turning their back on him now that he's bigger. I'll always remember him for the precious baby bear that he used to be. So sad! :(

  • life is so unfair to knut... first his mom abandoned him, then his human papi past away....now he may lose his home because he can't make more profit for the zoo... I don't know what to say... it is so sad that knut can't talk to anybody or maybe we never tried to understand him?

  • KNUT LOL

  • 2 years old - Full grown ? 440 lbs - full grown ? Idiot and ignorant commentary, male polar bears do not mature for another 6 years and another 600 lbs of weight added !

  • I'd Share my house with him still!

  • Simple! use the money "he earn" to extend his room, also can use him as a tools for promote stop global warming too! May be some green company will sponsor him

  • good idea

  • This was in our news a few days ago but it seems our version may be a bit distorted? They said that no one wanted him, not his fans, not animal activists and not any another zoos/wild life parks. They say he cost over 7 Million pounds a year to keep and he's just too big now, fans loved him when he was small and cute (he's still cute IMHO)...

  • ...I feel so bad for him. It's like they've gotten all they wanted from him and now it's 'out the door' for him. Our story said the zoo profited over 8 Million pounds from him and now they don't want him...because they can't profit from his non-cute look? I can understand that the amount of maintenance needed for him has escalated but I find it so sad that NO ONE would want him - though this story proves that wrong I guess.

    xO

  • The reason Knut the cute polar bear will be removed is not becuase of his size. It is because the zoo where his father is has the rights to him. SSo the Berlin zoo has no real choice but to give him to them.

I think the contract sucks, but thats how it is.

  • So its ok for them to profit millions of dollars off of his image but they can't afford to build him a bigger enclosure? What a shame. They need to give those zoo execs the boot.

  • i understand where the people are coming from but it's kinda selfish of them to want him to stay if the zoo can send him somewhere better

  • kanut hahahaha it's KNUT!

  • he so cute

  • woo
