....actually, quite informative and entertaining video. Just in case you play trumpet or another brass instrument, I think you might find some trumpet and brass tutorials quite intriguing over at YOURBRASSINSTRUCTOR's Channel.
Yeah another vehicle for Faddis to display his incredible high note chops. AND his ability to play at break neck tempos. I guess it is one aspect of the horn - to what extent can a musician gain mastery over the instrument. His achievements are incredible. To conclude though there always seems to be an uneasy tension between 'pyrotechnics' and music Freddie Hubbard was the one who was able to combine them both at times.
When Faddis plays that high it sounds like someone stretching the "hole-end" of a balloon and letting the air seep out slowly to make that screeching noise. Freaking nuts!
A Schilke 11 with a prototype heavyweight design that is now a vintage model only offered through custom services. I just ordered one a couple of days ago.
It has worked just fine for me. I can get a lot of power and sound through it especially in Marching Band now. Wat about u? Just be sure that when you order something like that, don't do it just because someone else does though. Hope it works for ya as well.
Scott Laskey worked for Schilke for years but then started his own company. It's a Heavy Laskey model... similar to the spec's you suggested. It should also be stated that Faddis's custom Schilke horn is a .451 bore. With all that, I think that he is one of the greatest jazz/lead trumpet players ever to touch a trumpet.
Schilke had the megatone first, and its heavier than the megatone. Schilkes 'standard heavyweight' is heavier than the megatone, and that XL blank is FUCKING HUGE. it's nicknamed the CO2 cartridge. The cup is identical to the cup in a 3E mouthpiece.
Donna Lee is a VERY hard piece to play on trumpet. I doubt Miles could play it without very much practicing first (we all know he wasnt a guy who could play in the Faddisphere). And its opening its a b!tch to hit.
I dont get it. Jon is a very good trumpet player but when you play so fast like this it really dosent sound very musical. Ive heard him play more melodic and swingin stuff. This just goes past the line of speed. Hes just showin off. Still very impressive however!
As you say, Faddis has proven over his career that he can play very musically, melodically, etc. My take on this particular performance is not that he's just showing off, but rather, he's HAVING FUN! And, I, for one, am glad to be sharing in the joy and excitement! Thanks for posting this, Brian740!
God I love listening to Jon play. That man is not only one of the best jazz trumpeters, but also one of the best musicians that I've ever heard. PERIOD.
JUST ASTONISHING!!!! Jon has a superb embochoure and a fantastic use of air column. No other trumpet player in (jazz) history has the same precision and uniformity in ALL registers. He also is a beautiful all-around musician. Thanks for being on planet Earth!!
Maynard is a legend and a master. He's in no way less good. I was just referring to Jon's precision on EVERY single note he plays, which I think is unbeatable.

Donna Lee is a SICK tune, and it's very difficult on trumpet. I'm starting to learn it myself. Wish me luck!

It's a really shallow piece actually. It's like the schilke version of a megatone.

miles claims he wrote this. i believe him based on how it doesn't sound like one of bird's compositions and how it lays on trumpet.
trumpet4444 2 years ago
It's a well known fact that Miles wrote Donna Lee.

Couldn't have said it better myself. No doubt its.. impressive in a way. Flashy.

jazz isnt sapposed to sound "musical" what makes it jazz is that is unique and flashy. jazz was made to break away from everything else.
vivalasteven5 3 years ago
No. A lot of music is flashy. Jazz is about the human expirience in terms of what it's about. It's not about articulation and speed.
kingoliver45 3 years ago
i agree with you, if you want some "musical chill relaxed stuff" then search for a new video this video is obviusly meant for Faddis doin
