she is great but she needs to work on her legs, when they are dancing apart she has bold legs and does no extend them fully, if you watch latin ballroom dancers you can see a clear difference in technique, she doesn't look complete as a dancer because her form in her legs is not strong.
This is a young couple who will go very far with their talent. they have been coming in 2nd and 3rd places in world competitions. but i know they will win many championships and will go places with their dancing. their is no doubt about it.

Great Spins!! how does she spin like that for almost 2minutes flat!?? amazing. A well deserved 3rd place. Well done guys!
I thought it needed more body isolation movements. I don't dance on2, but still thought they were off beat in a few places?...maybe I couldn't keep up with their speed :)
This is awesome can you please post this on salsadynasty . com. We love to see it there to show salseros what the mayan is all about! If you load 4 videos you could win a free video camera in their raffle they are having. Check it out!
Its funny how the crowd thought that Jr and Emily should have won when obviously if you know anything about REAL salsa Oliver and Luda are far more sophisticated. Jr and Emily are not accenting different beats they are off time! The audience is pleased by bubble gum, smoke, and mirrors another sign of the times. Thank God its not like American Idol because one thing thats for sure is that the salsa audiences are full of fucking idiots!
It was more like a spins demo. Dance is a lot more than that. Oliver and Luda had a much better overall routine. More refined and interesting performance. Junior and Emily will have to do much more to be number one.
I know moving is important! but they have showed in previous routines that they know how to move.... plus whats the point of knowing how to move if you dont got speed...they rock!! and speed and spins are far more difficult that moves... its all about technique!!
speed is not everything. yeah, it's impressive, but you need to have the total package. I know Jr and emily are better dancers than they show in this routine, but you wouldn't be able to tell. the only time they were not spinning was during the shines, which i must say are uninspired and unoriginal. We've seen the spins time and time again. Salsa is more than fast spinning.
Improved greatly since last year but still uncomparable to Oli and Luda as far as culture of movement. The couple seems to hide the male partner's inability to dance under millions of spins,it does not impress me at all...Poor girl:(((
They are an amzing couple, bumy question is: Can they dance???
I haven't seen much dancing in this performance except for the shine... Don't get me wrong, they are among the best couples in salsa, but this routine was mostly speed and spins... I love them and I would like to see more dancing...
Check out come clips of them social dancing, there's a few on youtube. Junior always does fantastic in Jack -n Jill Competitions -quite different from choreographed performances - and Emily is one of the best female followers I've ever danced with... and I get around alot ;).
I am sure they can dance...but we have to be fair, sincere and all agree that this choreo though it was beautifull and amazing, did not deserve 3rd place because John and Liz did a better Choreo and should have be awarded 3rd place...
no he does certain moves to accent different parts of the music...if he stayed on 2 on most parts of the music you wouldnt see the musicality ...whether its the chorus or the downbeat...but the point is his steps need to be on2 ... their only prob i see from why they didnt win is cuz their lack of salsa dancing ...they blew off the roof with their intricate combos and music but they were missing some basic salsa that oliver emphasized in both his routines
I love the coreography but they did 15 sec of shines and the rest was spinning, tricky moves with spins and then spinning again...they lose twice already..they should have learn by now that spins dont win championships..not this one..thats what the judges saw..
In my opinion, Emily & Junior should have won 1st Place. I admire Oliver & Luda, but in this case, Oliver & Luda should have won 2nd Place. This is a FANTASTIC CHOREOGRAPHY performed by two young and talented siblings. Keep up the excellent work, YOU WILL WIN NEXT YEAR. Last, but not least, if I had to describe your performance in 1 word "SPEECHLESS." :-)
i was sitting on the side and saw a small connection problem and luda missed a clean split, nonetheless the judges made their decision, they saw something we didnt ,i think they should have took first, without a doubt. And the crowd had every reason to boo the decision...but that was uncalled for booing oliver and luda...this isnt soccer guys
doing a "clean" split isn't part of mambo or salsa, it's an add-on effect for the show. What the judges look for, is timing and interpretation of music, clean movements, technique and difficulty as well as the "wow" factor or showmanship of the perfomers.
Emily & Junior have supersonic spins & combos, but from artistic point of view, their body movements aren't as clean as Oliver&Luda + their interpretation of the music wasn't as diverse & varied as Oliver&Luda's
i was there...their semis werent as great as their finals performance was absolutely stunning.Oliver and luda had a simple yet great semis but their finals were off by a lil...
does anybody know Junior's full name? His picture appeared in El Salvador's newspaper and people are asking about his name since the paper only said Salvadoran dancer at World competition.
Come on brother,,,they are really good but no charisma, no steping, coolness... just spining,, however the spins are like thunder just one thing is not enough to come first in a comp,,
you can be right brother but in my opinion charisma is posture, coolness and cleanless.. junior and emily are great dancers, but when i see them, just i see is a lady trying to spin faster, and a boy trying to spin the lady faster
Feos?
Sorry the ended up getting third place this year. Jhesus got second, Oliver and Luda first. It was quite a commotion when the winners where announced, many people felt Junior should have placed 1st or 2nd. However audience reaction is only 10% of the final score, ie its up to the judges not the audience to decide even though Junior and Emily were the apparent crowd favorite.
