  • I got a 97 civic d16y7 and its making a loud squeal through the tachs. It just had a new tranny from a 99 d16y8. I can't pinpoint the sound. Should I cut the ac belt and start from there?

  • yeah thats right just did mine same thing

  • its the ac compressor clutch.

  • darkmagician is exactly right; I was waiting for him to stick his hand down on the compressor clutch as soon as it ingages. Wait till he finds out the "just a loose bolt" is gonna cost him about $1,200.00. Have fun.

  • I'm sure you've gotten it resolved, but its a failing compressor. you can wait until it fails or replace it now. Either way, you're going to have to get the line flushed since theres a possibility there is metal in the system. Benefit of changing it before failure is you might be able to save your old expansion valve

  • meant to also add, this is actually quite common on these cars

  • I'm having the same problem. If you ever find a fix, send me an email letting me know what the solution is?

    Thanks
