They need some green grass , leaves , branches, toys and card box (hut) , they love their little hut where they can hide and make their own home (inside cage) they will sing anyway in their private home a will be a lot happier. Yes, give some toys him, and dice, slim rope (natural) with snags, and sometimes sallow-stick with letters. He's very nice, my cockatiel is singing now with him together:)

You have to hold them and love your tiels on a daily basis. They have to develop trust with you and it isn't going to happen if you just leave them in the cage all the time and don't talk to them.

Also let him to get used to your hand VERY carefully. give him food with your hand inside the cage, instead of through the cage bars. try not to scare him, though.
