My stock 68 302 sounds exactly like that and leaves about the same amount of rubber when dumping the clutch at 4500, the motor will rev to 7500 all day.
my first car in 79 was a green 69 z 302,with 456 gears..green dleuxe..this gives me chills..launching that car with the 456s was hell breakin loose..lol,,little short Hurst shifter..and you better be ready to yank it into 2nd hard and fast..this thing would jump people 3-4 cars when I hit 3rd gear in a drag race...4th gear rubber!!...sold it in 88,,like a fool..
No it is a 302 Chevy V-8 a 305 did not come out till late 70's Early 80's. 305's are junk and would never run like that motor just did. I have a 406 Small Block Chevy so I don't have to Rev it so hard. Torque is where it is at unless you have a light car and a 4-speed. Very Fast Camaro. My first car was a 67 with a 11:1 327 with a Muncie 4-speed. The key to these cars being so fast is they only weigh 2900. My 84 TA 3500 that's why I needed a Big motor with torque and I had to buy a 12 Bolt Posi
@jfo420 Yes, you are partly correct. Ford produced a 302ci engine, but also did Chevrolet in 1967, '68, and '69. They were advertised at 290hp and 290lb/ft torque, but made around 370hp, naturally aspirated.
@jfo420 ford put 302 into later mustang versions, but chevy 302 was made much earlier and is much better than ford 302. And it was the ONLY engine that was put in 69 Camaro Z/28. That Camaro was unbeatable then!
@jfo420 chevy made a 302 67 68 and 1969 the 350 came out in 1970 the 305 came out in 1977ish and ... those are junk . Its best to know what you are talking about before you post .
@MentalSliceTV not saying you're wrong, but as far as i know, the 350 came out in 67-68ish and the 302 is VERY VERY rare. they only made them in 67, and 68 and they only made about 7,000 of them. and as far as the 305 goes, they are not alll horrible, but some would be better used as boat anchors.
@TheTractorJake I STAND Corrected.... TY TY Learn something new everyday ... Hmmmmm But in my defense I arrived in 1967 as well... Lot on my plate yanno
@MentalSliceTV ya, i wasnt trying to be an ass or anything, i just dont want false info out there, because people see one thing and they believe it. and i hear ya. practicing your dreuling and such(; i can't even say anything though. im a 90's kid. hahah
thats 1969 reasons to want a 302 camaro... the closest you could get to a highway gear was a 3:73,, which woulda felt like 273s with that RevHappy monster... i like the optional 4:88s ,, although with 488s, you better have a VERY coordinated left leg and right hand!!! :)
Late 1969, or factory warrenty replacement were 3970010. And yes, they are 302's with the 1178 crankshafts. You people really need to do research before you post so you don't look like idiots. THANKS! That's a bad Z, Javier.
I have been building and driving these cars for around 16 years. I have built seven factory spec 302's for customers. Good for your teacher.... I have had a few good ones myself. If you need any help let me know....
@02DZ My replacement motor for My 68 Z/28 was a CE block installed at the dealer under warranty with a 3932386 stamping, early 69 Dz's used this casting code before the 010.
Really nice. Chevy 302s were/are screamers.

99ACE97 1 year ago
@99ACE97 The 302 was rated 290 hp from the factory but it actually made around close to 400 hp.

I never said they weren't.
Don't need to do my research.
I have 7 years hands on, and learned from a man with 40 years under his belt.

Wow. 16 years?
Make me look like a beginner! LOL.
He is a good teacher.
Because of him I'd actually been offered a job from a few hot rod and custom shops.
Will do!

The engine is stock , no headers ,had the original camshaft .30,.30 . 4.10 rear end with positraction. The transmition is a 2.52 four speed m-21.

i found a engine block in my backyard and i think it a 302 how would i find out for sere block has # 3970010.
1977camaro305 2 years ago
The codes on your engine block does not match a 302 engine number. The block you have is either a 350 or a 327.
rebelpride2011 2 years ago
I have found online that some 302 do have that # the only thing its missing is the dz code.
1977camaro305 2 years ago
you got a 350 block 2 or 4 bolt main. from 1969-1985
peter355camaro 2 years ago
It really depends on your vin number.
It could be a 327 up to a 350.
010 casting was a widely used one.
50chevyguy 2 years ago
Awesome man! How'bout the engine?
