i have the box set given to me by my uncle.i buried my dear father, michael joseph murphy to this song, god rest him...............i listen to it all the time pure class,
I mean thus from the bottom of my heart, this song is the reason I am learning the guitar. I want the tab for this so I can play this at my family reunion. Stuartof Scotland and Classify of Ireland.
One of the most beautiful love songs ever developed through the years,...and this particular version proves the melancholy in a way that is beyond compare.
i was out in germany 79 i w a s passing a room that was playing this very song. in i went and stayed behind a played it for at least a hour, what a wounderfull song by this singer. to this day it goes on when i com home from the pub, i engoy the song so much, thank you jim and all the wonderfull Irish people joe challoner Wrexham
just a fantastically contemplative ballad, rendered by a master of the craft, and delivered with a passion and an emotion that really hurt. Thanks Jim,the Boys in the band, as ever, and the writer of this.
Sorry!
Sorry, but I can't stand this version! Too lyrical. Actually, my favorite version is by Brian Kennedy (If I remember correctly) on one of Loreena McKennitt's albums (I forget which one). That's how it's supposed to be sung!
Brilliant singer, exquisite vocal tones, pure magic, excellent with the Dubliners but at home as a solo artist. poignant song now giving the lyrics and Jim McCann's illness.
this was my uncles favorite song.... im not sure which version was his favorite but this is mine... can anyone help me find other really nice versions of this song please....
Hard to beat Jim McCann singing this song, the only one who might run him close (in my opinion) is Paddy Reilly. - Incidentally I have an even better version of Jim singing this song somewhere. - If I can find details I'll post them
Surely the point is, just how beautiful this version is. That voice is totally in harmony with the instruments and the feeling expressed in the text. Stunning. Pure.
yep, deffo not the dubs, think that this is Jim McCann. Love the sond the song though. What we'd call a "commeallye".. as in "Come all ye young men, and lay me down.."
Sometimes people are too young to be in the position to judge, sometimes people are too stupid. What about You? Jim McCann was member of the Dublners in 1975!
Guarantee you its not the Dubliners. Believe me the Dubliners sound allot different than this, its not the greatest version of this song. This version is by Jim Mc Cann!! As im sure you know i tought u tought it was ronnie drew or luke kelly!
i love jim - i used to go and see him when i lived in dublin in the 80s and he had a regular gig at the lower deck. i heard he was ill a couple of years ago and have been thinking (and praying) of him. lots of love jim. xx m
I spoke to my friend Michael in dublin today and he tells me that Jim has had throat cancer and either cannot sing or believes his voice to damaged. He goes to gigs and takes a lot of photos, an artistic pursuit in itself. I am very sorry that another one of our greatest singers is gone silent.
I've been singing this version to my daughter since she was born. I've modified some lyrics so as not to promote drunkeness in my girl, but it's a great lullaby. She's now 16 months and it still does the trick!
probably the best version of this song on youtube... my school choir is singing this song and it sounds soo good, i will be posting it when we record it
One of the most beautiful male voices I've heard in years. This is a gorgeous, intimate rendition of a an old favorite. It begs me to find a lower key to play it in, because it's out of my range as Jim sings it.
Thank you, Jim, for a lovely listening experience and for the inspiration to play my own guitar again after a long time away from it.
Finally! Was time that this ultimate version of Carrickfergus appeared here. What an emotional voice Jim had, so sad he cannot sing anymore. Thanks a lot, pobl!!!
Thanks you! I just figured out the flute part by ear for a performance and this helped!
