i love jim - i used to go and see him when i lived in dublin in the 80s and he had a regular gig at the lower deck. i heard he was ill a couple of years ago and have been thinking (and praying) of him. lots of love jim. xx m

I spoke to my friend Michael in dublin today and he tells me that Jim has had throat cancer and either cannot sing or believes his voice to damaged. He goes to gigs and takes a lot of photos, an artistic pursuit in itself. I am very sorry that another one of our greatest singers is gone silent.

I would think that Jim sang for the last time at the Dubliners 4o years reunion concert. He was diognosed with throat cancer after the tour.
