Those "hmmms" sound like maybe this is your first time trying that weapon out and you don't much like how it shoots ... ? Everybody hate unsolicited advice but I would hold the weapon a little further away from your face and bring it down, arching your back into a hunch a little. That lowers the axis of the bore relative to the structure of your body, and absorbs more recoil while allowing you to maintain a more stable shooting position. Hope this helps. :-)
@onetaothree It was the first time trying it. In testing it with the sling for a press-out test, it wasn't nearly stable enough. It's an issue of the hands and sling setup still not able to properly stabilize during recoil so that I felt like it was going to hit me in the face. I had previously tried it with the sling loosened up more and it felt less stable yet.
@tacticaltoolbox I would just maybe try holding about 2" further away from your face. It's a reality of pistol grips on rifle caliber pistols and shotguns too. I had a pistol grip on my Remington 870, and let's just say I learned the hard way to give it some more room between the weapon and my face.
@onetaothree It really wasn't an issue of hitting me as much as controlability. If you check out my other vids testing an AR pistol. See how the muzzle lays a lot flatter? I didn't feel like the Draco was remotely as controlable as it would be as with a stock on it. The AR pistol, in comparison is a lot closer to its stocked counterparts.
@jcodym13 What is it, then? It's classified by the ATF as a pistol. Such are registration and possession laws. An animal like this does not exist anywhere but where regulation forces it to exist.
@tacticaltoolbox i wasnt making fun of your judgement if thats what you think, i know the ATF identifies it as a pistol. its just kind of funny that it looks more like a SBAR than a Pistol.
Hmm, indeed. The key to this weapon is to attach a single-point sling, and do a press with the weapon (sling taut, arms punched out) to get more support out of your body.
It works with the PLR-16, so it should work with the Draco. Also, an AK-74 muzzel brake will really cut down on the flip and felt recoil.
@MechaRogers The sling tested, the TT3, is far more stable than a single point. I was pressing out as hard as I could and even then, it was just not stable enough. I also later installed the PWS AK brake and still didn't feel it was stable enough for true rapid fire sight acquisition.
@OhRelay Hmm. Yes, recoil was bad enough I was nearly getting hit in the face each time. I was pressing out firmly on the front end, but it still wasn't mitigated enough to keep from causing me to react, post shot.
@TheBloodshed666 Yes, hmmmm. I'm probably going to SBR it as even the TT3 sling can't stabilize it enough. I've also tried the sling plus PW AK47 brake and the results were still less than satisfactory.
@tacticaltoolbox cool, i usually dont buy anything used though, im sure you take care of your stuff, but i prefer brand new. Is the draco romanian or is it russian?
I'm a dealer. This thing has been shot about 50 rounds. Enough to test to see if it's reliable--which it is. It's also been modified by me to have a single point sling mount (Uncle Mike's QD) in the receiver end plate cover.
@40rdclip Oregon is only like, 40 short hours away by car! I have a few dealers I know in Ohio. But shipping this guy probably will increase the cost way too much for you.
dont know shit about AK-PISTOLS, and likely never will (due the local laws..), but out of curiosity ive watched few "draco" videos now, shit looks way more stable on this with sling used vs. the couple of other vids i watched with some fattys shooting "free hand" with these that looked totally useless.
@thiscouldntblowmore That was the point of the test. In my opinion it still wasn't stable enough to really use effectively--but it is close. It's still a toy. I haven't tried one other technique yet that a commenter suggested, but I really doubt the concept is valid merely due to how much "technique" or stuff is required to even partially stabilize the gun for repeat shots.
@tacticaltoolbox hey man I bought a vtac 2 point sling, and you can tighten it across your back and shoulder while in the standing firing position and it really looks you in place with your firearm. I have the sling on a ar 15 though so the butt stock adds a lot of the stability, but it might be a good sling for something like this.
@tacticaltoolbox Oh I was just hmmming because you were hmmming and it made me hmmm because I need to find the most stable way to shoot that Draco of mine. Yeah I am aware of being able to conceal carry it.... I just have to come up with a way to do so. I don't think I am gonna go the SBR route because I won't be able to conceal carry and I don't wanna fallow the 922r BS.
With modifying the DRACO, you're likely not to fall afoul of the 922r compliance requirements because additional parts will probably be US made. I'm thinking of using a muzzle brake to tame the beast. I have potentially available a new PWS AK brake as one was accidentally sent to a buddy of mine in a shipment from them to his rifle business (STS Arms). My other thoughts are .223 and 5.45 cal AK pattern pistols as the mass of the bullet will tame recoil a bit.
It looks like if you had another inch of space between the back of the pistol and your face...you'd still be able to get a good sight picture while holding form (and not having your mustache ripped out!)
It's funny in that if I let out the sling further for more room, then I felt it was much less stable. Close in, it is more stable but very close to hitting my face. You can see my eye flinching because the pistol gets so close to my face upon recoil.
@tacticaltoolbox no kidding. It actually looked like it hit you a couple of times. Pretty difficult to find the sweet spot between good sight picture and gettin smacked with the receiver I imagine. I am gonna put 5 inches of muzzle brake on mine, so I can throw a folding stock on it and be done with it ( 922r compliance is a given)
@SpartanCombativesGrp Good idea on turning it into a rifle. I'm probably going to SBR mine as I work with an 07/SOT on a regular basis and we'll convert it to a test rifle. One thing we recently did was use a new PWS AK brake. This improved things, almost to a useable level.
BTW, you should try the Toolbox TT3 sling on all your rifles/AK pistols.
@tacticaltoolbox Careful converting it from a pistol to a rifle. You'll need the ATF tax stamp and other proper documents because you're changing the class of firearm and it's actually cheaper to just buy a full size AK. :)
Hmm... Hmmm...........Hmmm !

How many times do you break your nose per month shooting it that close to your face?
mercturd85 3 weeks ago
@mercturd85 Never as I discontinued use of that setup after testing an FSC47 brake on it. Nothing is taming the recoil down to where it's usable.
