@tjbayliss shes the same in real life. She fuckin killed somebody when she was 14 or something. Not only is she not annoying, she is one of the best female villains of all time.
Damn Snoop is a Gangsta ass Bitch...But the sayin is TRUE...Gangstas dont live that long.....One to the dome at the end..By a lil nigga she was bout to merk....
This is without a doubt my favorite opening scene. It sums up the whole season in like 4 minutes: well-intentioned older people try to teach young tough kids, and then just end up stunned by the enormity of what they don't know.
I have seen all 5 seasons and I think season 4 was the worst of them all. First of all kids don't belong in an adult show and nobody realy cares about Marlo compared to Barksdale. But please tell what it is I have overlooked in season 4.
@MrJacobfromDenmark Don't know how much you know about the ghetto, the hood or whateva you want to call it, but there's a whole lot of kids growing up in a very adult world and I think that's really the point of this season, if you watch it and then you watch season 5, you are basically getting to see history repeat itself, why them corner boys end up on corners and junkies become junkies, every man is a boy first and once upon a time Bubs was Dukie and Omar was Michael and Kenard will be Marlo
@Forristicat It's The Cycle. At the end of the show (spoilers if you haven't seen the whole thing yet) you see everything coming full circle, with Michael becoming the next Omar, Slim Charles becoming the next Avon, Dukie becoming the next Bubbles...the pattern of life is just a cycle according to the Wire (and nothing ever gets better - just stays the same). Hence all the wheels and circles.
now i have a question. i love the wire and i understand how each season opening is an allegory for the season main themes but honestly i dont see what it is here. can anyone help explain it?
I love this show, I just never understood why the theme song was so terribly uninspiring and the opening intro was always shot kinda amateurish. But season 4 was amazing.
Every seasons version of the theme song just gets shittier and shittier. The only good one was the original by Tom Waits, i dont see why they would change somethin that was already great.
@Gradey3 Tom Waits did Season 2, not the original one. I didn't like the season 3 one much, the first one was decent though. Haven't got to Season 5 yet so don't know about that one!
I got pretty freaked out in the end having to put up with just how disturbing it was having to listen to a girl try to sound like a man every time she came on the screen.
And her hair was even worse.
I mean, it's like she wants people to think she's a man.
What kind of girl would ever do that. Except a freak.
@tjbayliss Initially I found her character to be incredulous too, but if you've ever watched one of her interviews you'll realise she's exactly the same in real life. So there probably wasn't a less forced, rehearsed, scripted or fake character on the show!
@Primordeum The voice just sounds wrong.. She doesn't sound exactly like that in real life..
In the interviews she sounds much more normal.
In the show, it just sounds forced, like she's trying to sound gangsta
I know she IS/WAS a real gangsta/hoodlum but then just speak normally, she doesn't have to force out the accent that clearly isn't her own and natural.
@tjbayl but why would she try to sound like this in a interview i know a great college basketball player who plays right know sound like he is the nicest person in the world in a interview but anytime i was around him he was a asshole but this is her actuall accent, alot of Baltimore people have like this slur at the end of they voice when they talk im from Columbus so when i visted my cousin in bmore i heard people sound just like she do and she was in the system so i think this the real her
Some of the girls end up in Secure Units would surprise the living shit out of yo; in terms of pride, nihilsm, or just straight up messin-with-you-all, your patronsing ain't but bullshit.
@tjbayliss what you expected a 2 line comment to be filled with subject matter? or is that just your standard response cuz you get hate mail a lot? i definitely don't hear anything forced by the way she talks and neither does anyone else it looks like. its just your stupid ass trying to be a critic when you aint one.
@tjbayliss She literally just was sent to jail in real life for killing someone... please look that up and tell me she isn't a gangster. She could kick the shit out of you. I'm also pretty sure you're the only person who's ever claimed to not loving snoop, she was one of the scariest yet best characters on the show.
@tjbayliss Snoop has to be one of my favourite characters on the show. I don't see how you can say that her voice is forced, knowing full well that this is how she speaks in real life! It's not your typical female voice, but it's her voice, it's just different. I agree with jumba202, step outside your comfort zone (even though I don't know if it's a white suburb), things that are/look/sound unusual to you are not necessarily "wrong"; they're just different.
@tjbayliss lol wow what a sheltered life you must live... Snoops a typical stud(lesbian that dresses like a man but doesn't want surgery or hormone treatments)... Even more realistic shes a real criminal... Pretty much nothing about the way she dresses or acts is fake...
@tjbayliss Dude you have no idea how black butch lesbian murdering black girls behave, ok? Granted I have not met anyone who actually committed a homicide. But yeah this is actually a very good representation of how working class butch lesbian black girls behave especially when they don't get to go to school. And by the way, I'll take David Simon's opinion of how butch criminal women behave because Simon covered crime in Baltimore for two decades. All u know is just some chicks in malls.
season 4 is the most perfect television you could ever see ahhh. I watched it too recently to re-watch it for a 3rd time, but i might start watching it again. Fuck it its worth watching again

Snoop was probably the most annoying character on the entire show.
What kind of girl constantly forces out some fake boyish accent, trying to sound like the opposite sex.
So what if it's meant to be a "tough girl" thing - it's freakish and sounds utterly fake.
Every sound that came out of Snoop's mouth sounded forced, rehearsed, scripted, shit, girly and fake.
I have no idea how a couple of reviews I've read came to the conclusion that she actually added anything to the show.

I know it's real, I saw an interview, and I hear she actually did have a life similar to this, and was all messed up in gang stuff.
But my point still stands
Her voice sounds so fake, even if it is how she actually speaks
It sounds like a girl trying to sound like a boy
It sounds forced, and not natural
Whether she really is like this irl or not, her voice doesn't sound natural
Personally, I think she's trying to sound more gangsta than she really is.
tjbayliss 2 years ago
...or it could be just that's how her voice is?
Mind-boggling, isn't it?

whiteganser 9 months ago
@whiteganser I know that.
Still doesn't change the fact that her voice just sounds plain fake.
It sounds like a regular girl, trying to sound like a gangster.
It does not work, and will always sound wrong.
That's the only flaw The Wire has. How fake Snoop's voice sounds.
tjbayliss 9 months ago
@tjbayliss your a fuckin idiot take a step outside your predominantly white suburb and take a look around honestly
jumba202 9 months ago
@jumba202 Wow, what an intelligent response, filled with subject matter.
Maybe my original post was too harsh. But Snoop's voice is annoying, and always will be.
Maybe that's how she really sounds - but that still doesn't change the fact that it just sounsd wrong.
It sounds forced, as if she's trying desperately to sound gangsta. And maybe she is.
But a female voice box trying to sound gangsta just does not work in this instance.
tjbayliss 9 months ago
@tjbayliss what you expected a 2 line comment to be filled with subject matter? or is that just your standard response cuz you get hate mail a lot? i definitely don't hear anything forced by the way she talks and neither does anyone else it looks like. its just your stupid ass trying to be a critic when you aint one.
jumba202 9 months ago
@jumba202 It may be her natural voice, but it sounds forced.
The way she talks sounds as if she's trying to sound more gangsta than she does.
Maybe it's just because it's a female voice trying to sound super-black.
Either way, it does sound forced, and isn't natural.
She may be gangsta, but that is not her natural voice.
tjbayliss 9 months ago
@tjbayliss She literally just was sent to jail in real life for killing someone... please look that up and tell me she isn't a gangster. She could kick the shit out of you. And most certainly has not been sent to jail for murder.
