the selling of cannabis should bewith warning, like it is done with for example cigarettes. Can cause this and that and that, black font on the package. That would be honest and it also would tell people when to stop smoking when bad symptoms start to emerge
i think that schizophrenia is just a heaviest psychosis u can get from weed. Weed can make u fear and anxious for long time, to gain phobias like social phobia.
AND this bullshit where potheads say 'its natural it grows from the earth' well so do Philodendron leafs! and they will kill you. Do you really think 15 year olds should be running around smoking weed? If everyone was off there heads on weed our society would suffer. Potheads seem to ignore the FACT that yes it is harmful (i kno i kno, so is booze) i know people that can handle it if they dont have a few joints in the morning. plus any stupid fu*k can grow weed so it would be hard to control.
I've taken lots of drugs and for the most part had a pretty great time, but the one drug that really messed up by brain was cannabis. I had a very frightening experience and it took me a few months to feel normal again. Don't know if anyone else has ever had that happen but if it has happened to you you'll never touch the stuff again. I'd be interested to hear if anyone else has had a similar experience?
Marijuana might be dangerous to the small proportion of people who suffer from schizophrenia, but it's massively beneficial to the huge proportion of people who suffer from asshole-ism.
Silicon does not readily vaporize. If there were silicon beads in something you smoked I can't imagine it doing any extra harm.
The government certainly hypes (and even lies about) the risks of marijuana and other drugs. But there are down sides. You might want to check out C0nc0rdance's video on the topic. v=nnNPm5cG85c
I am all for legalization, even though I have given up pot for life.
@Maxdwolf I think the concern was that it was ground into dust and more readily inhaled, less readily shifted by your lungs, and may be poisonous. There was a report on the BBC about it.
@BoundlessEyes Found some info on it. Yes, evidently they're microscopic beads and thus harmful as a particulate. Evidently there was a problem with lead in at least on batch in Germany.
I've never used weed and have no intention to, but I quite agree that it should be legal. I've never heard a good argument against. Hell, booze is much worse!
@2bsirius Yes I'm happy about it too. Glad someone cared enough to ask. I check up on the rascal from time to time but he's usually too busy raising hell with their kids :)
Cool video! When I was 17, I actually found it harder to get alcohol than weed, because I needed a fake ID or an older friend to get booze, but could just bike down to the dealer for weed! I mean, even if weed WAS bad for you, it would still make sense to legalize it, as it would be harder to get at for kids
Good video Jess, this hypocritical double standard pisses me off. The only reason I can think of as to why it's illegal is either because of the stigma surrounding Cannabis. It'll be interesting to see if any of the cigarette companies fund any anti-cannabis studies, as they may feel it would take people, and thus money, away from them.
@EruditionNut i bet you those people gave up around exam times. about 50% of people i know got mental problems from smoking, and the other 50% have been smoking for almost 15 years, and have no problems (other than lack of motivation etc)
personally, after smoking for a few years, i had to go on meds for 5 years, and even today, 10 years after i last smoked, i still have trouble being near someone else who is smoking. it had large negative effects on my life.
@mikesomething I completely understand. That's why I just wanted to point out that it's relative. I, too, have met people who have been effected negatively by it, but I don't think we should ignore those who are effected positively by it. I've been suffering with depression since early adolescence. Early 2010 I fell into the deepest depression I've ever experienced and earlier this year, I got into the habit of smoking regularly. After a few months, I decided to quit cold turkey, and although...
@EruditionNut ...I've had my moments, I've doing better than I have since last year, and quitting surprisingly was not hard at all. I believe it's because it helped me get in the habit of thinking positive, and the "mood lift" it gave me at the time actually gave me back the motivation my depression had taken from me. It also helped me with my social anxiety and stress since I felt more relaxed, esp. around people.
It isn't for everyone, but it helps a lot of people.
Clearly there is no logic to it at all. The two biggest killers are not only legal but achieve huge amounts of revenue for the government. It's arbitrary, random and justifed through flawed logic which changes depending upon whatever has come to light at the time. The whole gateway drug nonsense only applies because cannabis is illegal and relatively safe. Make coffee illegal and it would become a gateway drug.
@Loreleila The fallout of ecstasy use is quite a different matter. The after effects of heavy use are legion and lifelong, including extreme anxiety, mental illness of various kinds, and permanent damage to the brain. It doesn't take a genius to work out the evident dangers of some drugs over others. One has to wonder why those in power feel they have to make choices on behalf of other adults who are as capable of making these choices (or not, as the case may be) as they are.
The law in the UK when it comes to cannabis and so on is very flexible.
So there is really no need to worry about the law regarding drug use. The chances are your not going to be banged up. Your more likely to get a little warning or they probably turn a blind eye. The old lady that grows cannabis, I would be very surprised if she ends up in prison.
I know some guys that live in my area that peddle cannabis. I never once seen the cops arrest them.
I don't drink alcohol because it makes me really fucking crazy , I don't smoke pot because it makes me really lazy . But if I had to choose I would smoke weed over drinking alcohol any day. I would much rather wake up with an empty bag of potato chips next to me than somone I don't know next to me. Just saying. And I agree about the gateway effect. When I did it and realized it was harmless I was much more curious about everything else.
@rocketwhiplash2468 Yeah the gateway effect. I bet every person who has done illegal drugs has at one time or another drank milk, which may lead to drinking water and fruit juices. Then the progression picks up and they want soda, which then plants them at the feet of alcohol. But then you need to smoke some cigs just to look cool, then some weed and onto coke and crack and anything else you can get your hands on. Seems silly eh. The biggest detriment is a personality that craves these things.
@BoundlessEyes Yes it is ridiculous, that was my whole point. The gateway drug argument is fallacious and has more holes in it than Sarah Palins vaginal diaphram. Your explanation seems to lend itself more to social compulsion than the weed pushing you onto the others. Lets say that you grew your own weed and did not need to go to a dealer, would you still seek the harder drugs? If yes, than the weed is not the culprit, but your own desires guiding you, where others may just stick to the weed.
Furthermore, William Randolph Hearst, notable newspaper magnate, wrote ludicrous and scathing attacks on cannabis, which drummed up support for prohibition. Hearst had lots of investments in the timber industry, and hemp presented a major source of competition that he sought to get rid of.
Flapjackbatter: only if you smoke it dude. watch 'run from the cure' you cant be further from the truth. THC oil has cured a large number of cancers and ailments today and has been used for hundreds if not thousands of years to do so.
George Washingtons #1 crop wasnt tobacco is was freakin weed!! there all hypocrites
Cannabis was first made illegal in the United States during the 1930's because southwestern states hit by the Depression needed a reason to lock up and deport the Mexican immigrants. Also, it followed the repeal of alcohol prohibition, so perhaps the same interests that benefited from alcohol prohibition needed to prohibit something else.
Cannabis is illegal because it is scientifically proven that (among other things) it has a number of bad health effects. (Like most legal or illegal drugs.)
Its clearly canceerous it's empedes learning + bad effects on mental health.
Concordance has 2 balanced videos on this.
(I wonder who will be the first one to attempt to put cannabis in a better light by camparing it to alcohol. ? : )
@Flapjackbatter The premise of this video is that one doesn't need to attempt to put cannabis in a better light. You need a reason to make something illegal. Lots of things are cancerous (soft drinks, cigarettes, cell phones, etc.) and legal. Similarly, lots of things CAN have bad effects on mental health and are legal (full-time work, poverty, divorce, etc.) There's no moral reason for this plant to be illegal. Making nature illegal is unnatural.
@Flapjackbatter "Cannabis is illegal because it is scientifically proven that (among other things) it has a number of bad health effects." I don't think so, as a matter of fact that was probably the last on the list, when you consider the political, business and religious aspects.
i agree with your gateway analysis, cos thats also what happened to me. the gov't pretends the gateway argument is more directly causal, but there's a whole generation of adults now that know that's bullshit.
if it is a gateway to other stuff, its also cos dealers may sell other stuff as well.
