Awesome, one of my friends had a ''91but not the same body shape, played with the 4WS while the car was up on a ramp. Pretty cool to see in action like this.
I need parts for my car and someone that's a pro and knows wht there talking about....I have a 91 prelude si 2.1 and need some help 9518165841 I'll drive any where!
I have a '90 with 170k, burns oil but man is ever the most fun car I've ever owned or driven. Looks exactly the same as this one, and I got lucky as the interior is flawless. Dealer was asking $5,200. $3,200 was 400 over blue book but it seemed like a bargain. I plan on keeping it forever......
Hey my dad had same car around 92 when i was a teen, he adored it but i remember him complaining about the rear steering rack clicking all the time. It was a nice car sadly it was stolen and never seen again, still got the photos in my Album. All my friends loved it and thought it was the smartest car ever.
Yo whats the update on this car man? Still have it? Still running? It would be nice to hear you know? I have one too and im hoping i could keep it for a long time
@epcdaniel Just replying to myself because I made an error. ;) I meant to say "better than the 4th gen electronic" but I was thinking hydraulic for some reason. whoops. :)
When the car isn't moving at around 1:06 the rear wheels turn in both the same AND opposite direction as the front wheels. Shouldn't the rear wheels only move opposite to the front wheels the the car isn't moving?
@n40798 ......Going by what mine does,,,,the rears turn a 1/4 to the distance of the fronts, moving or sitting still. they DO look to be confused at the turning point your speaking on though,,,,,it "seems" that is where the return point is. the rear wheel steering only assist up to a certain mph. fun cars though at 140mph it drives itself, smoothly too
It's so clean man!!!! I have the exact same car. But It's 1989 also Si and 4WS. I'm jealous man! I have some rust on the wheel well area. I want mine to look like yours! Nice Car man
almost a year ago a guy had one of these for sale for 1,500 in excellent condition. wtf was i thinking not to try and get this car.................. i guess i wasn't thinkimg.mmm. excellent example of the 4ws system here.
dude u did a great job editing this lol. u made that care acctually look badass haha just not so many old school ludes look too good nowaday props to old school <3 my da teg
I have the 5th gen 97 lude and it has the turning circle of a tractor trailer. i never make u-turns anymore unless its a 3 lane road on the other side.
4ws wins on Handling performance, turning performance, stability performance.

but you gotta think about it dude the 3rd gen ludes have iron engine block which means they handle a decent amount of power IF you know how to work on 'em
That sucks. Check out Craiglist ...I have seen 4ws for sale on some occassion. Love these 3rd Gens. I drive my 91 more than my 2001 prelude. Its like putting on some old comfortable shoes, or using a baseball mit thats already broken in. You know what Im talking about = )
In normal highway driving the handeling is about the same as the standard Si model. On the Honda prelude the only advantage is tighter cornering in parking lot manuvers and backing up down a winding driveway is a lot more controled.

I bought my 3rd gen prelude from a friend. Like many i only liked it because of the options (sunroof, power windows, central locking, cruise control etc) being a young teen then.
I since found out the other attributes that no 3rd gen owner would experience nor see from looking at the car (fantastic vision, great handling, no body roll, tight chassis and 4ws stability and progressive steering).
Ive since had 3 preludes and to this day still have 2 of them. Fantastic, classy and reliable car.
I'm not a Ford OR Chevy lover, but I still feel that credit should be given where credit is due. The Ford truck was in it's time the single most durable/versatile/remarkable truck that could be bought. Same with Chevy, Dodge, and now Toyota. Not so much nowadays, but when Fords, Chevys, and Dodges where still what they born to be, they were unstopable. So let's not put down the achievements of men and women who worked hard to move the automotive industry along into what we see it as today.
Not at all true. Soviet cars have gone 40 years and go 400,000 if well cared for - American, German, Japanese, even FRENCH have a fair chance of going longer.
I had a 90 automatic 4ws and it was the best I ever owned by far. With fingertip steering it was the most comfortable, effortless drive, yet when you put the foot down it knocked you back in your seat. And it looked good, especially from the front. Rust killed it, but if you ever get a chance to buy a clean one, go for it.
Dude thats all I work on it has all whel steering all wheel drive electronicly controlled suspension dampers exaust function to change from sigle to dual exaust.
1988 to 1991 are the only cars in the world with true mechanical steering. other years from honda and other manufacturers were cable or hydrolic steering.I have an 88 4ws and man, its a world of difference!!!
Outside of stripping the entire chassis off and rebuilding the car? Doubt you'd want to go through the trouble of, essentially, constructing your own vehicle.

They use the electronic 4ws now, none are hydraulic however the mechanical one although heavier than the electronic is the most reliable and predictable-except maybe the new rear steer seen on Chevy trucks with Quadrasteer and the rear steer of the Infiniti FX-50-the best part about these two is that in addition they have AWD.
Amazing video and more amazing lude you got there.. have the same car, but not the "si" model and love it^^
but did i get this right that does the si model have unlockable rear wheels "5-speed" and not si model ludes wit 4ws have lockeing rear wheels after some speed. can you guys light me up whit this, totally lost at the moment:S
okay, travelling at high velocities, when you turn... it makes sharper turns ~ the tires dont have to skid and less friction occurs on the tires. if you have 2ws... almost any car in the world, you have to decrease speed to make a turn without any chirping. with 4ws, you could maintain almost the same speed you we going at without any chirping. okay basically its all about speed, speeding through turns without having to make two shifts down, either constant gear, or one shift down just tobe safe
That year prelude was the only car ever to be produced with mechanical 4WS, even cars that say they have it (92 Preludes, 3000gt vr4's, and some of the 240's) it's all electrical and don't work nearly as well as the Ludes
Does anyone know where to get spares for this car, in particular the plastic piece between the rear lights with the prelude logo and also rear bumper. Help
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
The highest hp for a prelude is the 5th generation with 200 hp.... i got 240 on my stang witch is one of the lowest (GT) ever build but lightest... odds are not in your favor FWD Ricer

isnt 4ws bad for racing performance???
cdomin12 2 years ago
Depends what you mean by performance
4ws wins on Handling performance, turning performance, stability performance.
4ws doesnt in terms of straight line performance.
Unfortunately there are more straights than tight bends on any race track so a 4ws is not seen as advantagous overall.
I say this because not that it doesnt have benefits but its disadvantage (on a straight which is a majority of the track) outweighs its advantages (in the bends).
NOT because it doesnt work.
crxdelsolsir 1 year ago
If speed is not the most important thing 4ws wins in more ways than one.
unfortunately most people are only concerned with speed. hence all the emphasis is on the engine specs only.
Suspension, body construction, steering or overall engineering etc takes second to no consideration.
crxdelsolsir 1 year ago
but you gotta think about it dude the 3rd gen ludes have iron engine block which means they handle a decent amount of power IF you know how to work on 'em

That year prelude was the only car ever to be produced with mechanical 4WS, even cars that say they have it (92 Preludes, 3000gt vr4's, and some of the 240's) it's all electrical and don't work nearly as well as the Ludes
Ravenlock86 3 years ago
ohh so it wouldnt matter if you had it anyways huh lol?
buhrrito 3 years ago
They still work just the same, some are more prone to breakdown is all.
interpol007 3 years ago
well maybe thats a bit excessive, those two cars have way more power. You cant even compare them.
interpol007 3 years ago
Did all Preludes from this era come with 4WS or was it an option?
LonewolfSaichi 3 years ago
Option. Rare actually.
4cruizn 3 years ago
hmm...interesting.
i think i might get one...
LonewolfSaichi 3 years ago
More like rare to find one in good condition than to find a 4ws beat up

I'm not jealous though because I have one of those in Grenada Black pearl and it is a mans mans inexpensive intelligent little sports car
cragmac1000 3 years ago
that just looks like something that would break and put you into a tree. this is why we have rear wheel drive cars ladies and gents.

The highest hp for a prelude is the 5th generation with 200 hp.... i got 240 on my stang witch is one of the lowest (GT) ever build but lightest... odds are not in your favor FWD Ricer
CrankySailor 3 years ago
who said anything about it being stock??
theres almost nothing in that motor that is stock :-P its not even boosted and I leave most mustangs in the dust
LemUUU 3 years ago 2
oh yea... and I dont race in a straight line... I race on bends.... 4 wheel steering really gives you an advantage in high speed turning
