  • THIS IS WHERE JOHNNIE TAYLOR GOT HIS START!!!!!!

  • This is a testament to good "sangin"! These dudes were doing it! Paul Foster took it and ran and the fellas (led by Sam) kept it going! Whew!

  • @lovedbymany29 Youtube -

They Sold Their Souls For Rock And Roll

    /watch?v=2OyP4ETNygo

  • I am a quartet fanatic and I got to know Mr. Foster when I heard him and Sam Cooke duet together.. Even though I purchased because of Sam Cooke, Mr. Foster became an immediate favorite. What a dynamic voice!! Would to God we had more of this kind of singing today. I only regret that I missed Mr. Foster performance in person.

  • I now know where Clyd Mcphater got it from.

  • that's my daddy...sing pops!

  • @MrPaulfosterJR You must be so proud! What a giant your dad was! I've known about the Soul Sirrers for years but only recently discovered your father. I can't think of any better Gospel singer - he must have been a great pastor, too!

  • Who are in this pic?

  • clockwise from top is leroy crume(baritone),richard gibbs(tenor),johnnie taylor(lead),paul foster(lead on this song) and j.j. farley(bass singer). these are some bad brothers!

  • Anyone here still alive?

  • SANG PAUL FOSTER, PREACH!!

  • Paul was great but Sam was the man. Don't carry on a big hate because Sam made mistakes.

  • sam was truly a revolutionary and stylist but there is no way that he could have carried that song like my father.you simply can't compare the two...they are horses of a different color with different mindsets and techniques.even their personal influences were different.sam was an influence to many artist of yesterday and today but so is my father who influenced johnny gill, jerry butler, fred hammond, the winans, david ruffin, dennis edwards, teddy p. and this list goes on and on

  • I agree. Sam was amazing, but Paul Foster was inspirational. I always preferred him to Sam Cooke. It's a matter of opinion, but if you're looking for the Power of the Spirit, Paul Foster gives it to you effortlessly every time.

  • .....too much MTV base watching, too much boozing, too little bible reading, no spirituality, laziness,........

  • I clearly hear Sam leading in the background!

  • Thanks for this!!!

Spread the Gospel! and yeah, Paul Foster is amazing... RH Harris, Jimmy Outler, and Sam Cook were pretty good, too, though.

I bought that tape in some old record store in Tappahanock, VA when I was about 13. Been Loving the Sam Cooke Gospel every since... can I get an Amen?

Isn't that the one with Lord Remember Me on it? If so, that's my favorite version... it SHOULD be here on Youtube... Hint. Hint. Thanks again! Awesome.

  • I like Paul Foster better at lead over Sam. He was raw and he actually knew was he was singing about!!

  • NO ONE CAN TOUCH PAUL!!!!!!

  • can anyone tell me who is singing that kickass second tenor...sam or johnny?

  • It's JOHNNIE TAYLOR BABY!!!!!!! He's THE ONLY ONE THAT CAME CLOSE TO SAM!!!!!!!!!!

  • Thanks for Posting! Can you please post "Wonderful" by the Sour Stirrers?

  • Big Paul is tearing up the lead, simply taking no prisoners. Alas I also hear the beautiful tenor voice of Sweet Singing Sam sanging harmony. How Beautiful !

  • sang Paul Foster, Jesus is the answer

  • U RIGHT!!! OMG !! I can listen to this one allllll NITE and DAY!!!! Go head on!!!

  • Starts out very well, but becomes a bit more boring after 1:20 in my humble opinion.

The Stirrers are also better when with Sam Cooke imho.

  • Thanks for pinpointing for the rest of us the exact moment of your boredom--you've made the world a better place.

P.S. Cooke's sweet crooning was better served by fluff material about love and dating than this music with its roots in anguish and spiritual redemption. Can I assume you're a fan of Britney Spears, too?

  • Thanks for making it clear that you don't respect opinions other than your own.

And no, I'm not a fan of BS.

  • It's a shame to name Sam Cooke and that poor doll in the same comment.

  • Then i take it you've never heard WHERE YOU THERE? or JESUS WASH AWAY MY TROUBLES? Paul and Sam where very diferent but ultimatley talented singers. And you to compare SAM COOKE to Britney Spears is TOTALLY ridiculous! If you had said Whitney Houston,i could understand.

  • Turn your passion on; this is far from being boring.

  • I LOVE this song...Thankx also to all of you who posted "background" and "trivia" info on this song. I learned a few things I didn't know...

  • Paul Foster will always be my favorite Soul Stirrers singer!

  • i think i listened to this song about 50 times between this morning and yesterday. I love this guys voice...and the message is just- timeless

  • sang Paul Foster

  • How come johnnie Taylor didn't stay with the

    soul stirrers

  • wonderful thank you for posting!!

  • and thank you for listening.

  • In the background Johnnie sounds more like Sam than when he is leading...but dos a excellent job at both......Cooke

  • i always thought sam was on this cut.

  • No...that's Johnnie......and his phrasing and tone in the background is just like Sam's....awesome, like in the song, Out On A Hill. What a beautiful friendship...

  • Check out Johnnie singing Heaven Is My Home....Cooke

  • you mean heaven is my home on sar?cause thats j.w. alexander, doing the speaking part

  • No...it's on youtube...awesome...

  • o ok,i think ill post the sar version on the sam cooke yahoo group for you.

  • I think the version on youtube is Johnnie and Paul....but it's awesome....Cooke

  • dude, you sure that's j.w. from the pilgrim travelers talking on Sar's heaven is my home?

  • im pretty sure,i had to call abkco to ask why it wasnt released on the cd and they told me because j.w. was leading it.

  • Johnnie Sounds like Sam on "Sinner Run to Jesus" because that is Sam in the background. Disregard that album cover, that is clearly Sam in the background!

  • You are absolutely correct!! That is definitely Sam in the background!! There is only ONE Sam!!!

  • He has blessings untold, sang Paul.

  • SANG PAUL FOSTER

  • Isn't that Johnnie Taylor down on the right in the first row?

  • Yes sir, the one and only Johnnie Taylor, see how young he was back then. lol.

  • @JayEm86 Yep
