  • i have an 85 vette and i know if i put a single 76m turbo kit on it id have 500 horsepower or so, but i imagine whats holding the guy in the 87 back is the transmission, he either had the 4+3 manual which is just a 4 speed with extra trouble or the 700r4 which isnt all that powerful either, even if you sink 2g in the tranny you would still be better off with a t-56

  • @deadfaithful u need a lot more than a jus the turbo for 500hp,,, they only start out with 200 somthing,,,,,

  • @germantellez18 well mine was rated at 235hp, but i doubt thats accurate, a friend of mine has a truck with a 88 corvette l98 in it, as far as i know he hasnt done anything to it but put a turbo kit on it, i dont know what the boost is at but that 5000 lb truck can keep up most mustangs and civics, the intakes for the L98 were restrictive but with boost the motors scream

  • @deadfaithful to get 235 to 500 goin to take internals,,, u can only do so much b4 rods, piston or any other part gives out,,, ,maybe 6psi if well tuned would only get you mid to high 300's

  • @germantellez18 well i wouldnt say im an expert with l98s but i have spent some time working with more than a few of them, i dont know what my friends truck puts out exactly, but the '88 B2k callaway put out 382hp/562ftlbs so youre probably right about the horsepower numbers but torque is what you really feel anyway

  • @deadfaithful did the callaway have forged internals or cast??

  • @germantellez18 honestly i dont know, they set a land speed with it tho 254.7mph in 87 or 88

  • @deadfaithful the one that did that had like 800some hp... car was a beast,,,

im not baggin on l98 but there cast iron pistons dnt hand too much,,,, i own a lt1 camaro i been thinkin bout supercharging it but unless i do internal its not worth it for 6 psi and possibly blowing it up,, u kno what i mea?

  • @deadfaithful Dear friend. They didn't set a land speed record with an '88 B2K Callaway car. They set a land speed record with a one off, specially built version called the Sledgehammer.

  • @AzrielUndead it just takes longer to type, that cars legendary though

  • In the 87 C4 there is a procharged l98 TPI.

Stock TPI in 87' was 245 hp naturaly aspirated.I don't know how much hp a procharger gives to a TPI...if hi-mod may be a total 400 hp...

  • the lt1 is 275 crank and the ls1 is 325 crank thats definatley a 50 horsepower difference, learn how to add.

  • Actually the LT1 is 300hp and the LS1 is 345hp regardless if it's in the Vette or F-body. For a long time I thought it was the other way around, but after pulling the engine out and running them that's the # they pulled out.

  • TPI - money pit. If you want to get any power out of it

  • Not exactly. A decent set of heads and an intake with shorter runners that flow better makes all the difference in the world.

  • its still very expensive though. Heads are same as any small block but the intake/electronics/tuning are quite expensive. And not a lot of shops have experience messing with the open source tpi ECMs

  • thats because its not a LT-1 its a L98 TPI motor. 1992 was the first year for the LT-1....

  • i thought the 87 would have taken the stock C5..good race

  • I don't think there is anyway that c5 was stock...a lt-1 is only 20 HP less than a ls1. On top of that the car was supercharged!

  • If you look @ samspace81 homepage you will see another video of these two cars racing! It says the C5 has N2O or the bottle flu!

  • this was a motor run.
