@RideTheRainbowTV Your local hardware store. It's a circular saw blade. Bring your sticks with you. Some of them actually have pretty cool tones! I use a few on my set for cool bell accents. Cheaper than zilbel's.....
Care on Triggers they just form your sound better or however you want, watch some kollias vids, you can see him kick way too hard to actually "cheat" with the trigger system
Man - I was on this tour (playing in Nachtmystium at the time), and Tony was a fucking monster every night. The coolest moment for 1349 IMO, though, was due to an unexpected glitch. One night in the middle of their set, the house P.A. went out for about 3 or 4 minutes, and suddenly there were no triggered drums, no massive P.A. sound - just a raw, ripping black / thrash band tearing it the fuck up.
It was an awesome few minutes of real, blood-and-sweat metal \,,/
The triggers doesn't give you any talent, any speed, nothing yust better sound on drums, don't be ignorant. If you put a trigger in your drum set, it will give you powers? c'mon please.
SkepticusSpiritus in this video it sounds like hes using triggers to me and i think derek roddy is the drummer that is the least triggered. He only used triggers in Hate Eternal
The only thing to add to this thread, is for anyone to be in a position to critique who is better, one has to have heard every single thing these drummers have done in their professional career. George Kollias - Cerebrum.. this album he features on is insane! More like his work with Sickening Horror vs Nile. awesome cymbal choke variations, complex timing and impressive dynamic control.. Hellhammer - Winds, Age Of Silence.. amazing progressive, emotional brilliance! Tony is awesome, enough said!
derek roddy, kollias, tony laureano, frost, inferno ,vitek pete sandoval all good in their respective ways...you cant compare...it is a matter of taste...i try and learn something from each of them

I think because triggers can be set to have a "heavy hit sound" when you hit the drums softly... I don't like Death Metal because can't be played decently without using triggers = Fake drummers.
The only ones I can appreciate is George Kollias (Nile), Derek Roddy (Hate Eternal) and Max Kolesne (Krisiun).
Actually triggers are used at high speeds because otherwise the notes would all mesh in together and sound like crap. Plus all the other musicians would float in and out of time because the bass pattern wouldn't be defined enough.
He's actually one of the least triggered drummers out there in extreme metal... He only triggers his bass drums and his, unlike Kollias' and most of the others', are set at the maximum dynamic range - in other words, he plays the kicks just like they had microphones; that's why you don't hear his double kicks just as clear and clean as Kollias' or Barker's etc. And his slight imprecision (sometimes) seems very feelwise-controlled and soulful to me, he's a very organic-sounding drummer.
You're comparing apples to oranges...there's no best and there is no "god"... in my opinion, what makes a good drummer is having a unique style so that you could pick them out on an album without even knowing who was behind the kit. George is a machine and a killer drummer but sounding like a machine isn't always the best thing for a song or band. In his band it happens to work.
Oh... Roddy is at the same level as George. Especially now that he's done alot of jazz and other non-metal stuff. And don't forget Romain Gaulon. He's a beast as well.
Oh, and Frost... he falls way behind every other drummer you listed in your comment
HELL YEAH HAIL ALL MY BROTHERS AROUND THE DARKENED GLOBE .... HAIL BLACK METAL MAY THE DARKNESS BLESS YOU AND GUIDE THY PATH >>> HAIL THE FORBIDDEN LORDS \m/
the dude from the video is tony laureano and he's a tour drummer. he has filled for nile dimmu borgir, 1349 ect and he is puertorrican. i know this because i am puerto rican
Dude, Chris Adler is such a frustrating looking drummer. He makes everything look harder than it actually is. Ewe yuk i say to Chris Adler and lamb of god..boring, overated i might add. Tony is one of the most "underated" heavy metal drummers of our time. I mean, what drummer can easily go from Dimmu, to Nile, to 1349!!WTF.. Probably Hellhammer, i mean look at his band history, he can do anything. Nick is great also, I dont know any of his fills that suk. So yeah, no to Chris Adler, yes to Tony!
Ever heard of a drummer named FROST ? he had kicked George, Nick, and HellHammer asses. He`s fast. And know for a great drum technick. and hellhammer is just a foney. I`m a sound man, and at a concert with mayhem he told me to turn all the drum mic`s on full sound beacuse he is barley ner the drums when i play. that`s why he is so "great"
@CannibalDave Im sorry but Im gonna have to call bullshit on that. Tony has no where near the amount of creativity Frost has for fills and overall drumbeats
what a fuck are you guys talking about.listen carefuly his playing.he can be in almost every extreme metal band playing.you love hellhammer and nick because they have NAME but tony is also on of his kind.so stop talking shits and grab a pair of sticks and do what he can do and then you can say something.
True mate, All metal drummers (well most of them anyway) are focasted primarly on speed. Thats why I love Chris Adler, he has speed, but he creates this unique and intricut rhyhtms that is unusual for metal drummers
hellhammer is accurate at high speeds but strangely hes very bad at slower speeds, especially with his double bass, in live songs he plays almost 2x as fast as the double bass should be, i still think nick is the best so far
I didn't mean it in a bad way, Kollias is my favorite metal drummer. I think he's amazing, but he comes up as 'the best' in every video I see that has to do with metal drumming, just like Jordison (although you can't compare the two in skill).
he may be a good drummer, but i is nothing compared to Nick Barker and Hellhammer! And he should never have been with dimmu, he just fucks up the drum parts. and i know it i have seen him live with dimmu.
In Their Darkned Shrines Tony Laureano shows how to play fast and powerfull....but the true strenght of his drumming is the fantasy mingled with power and speed....Tony is Great....
i dont think it sucks, i just think its more of a personal preference thing. i personally prefer the wonders of dynamics and being mic'd, but triggers can really really help a lot of the time... either that or they can make things sound worse by exposing how much one REALLY practices. Haha XD
lol agreed, but imo triggering only bass drum is enough, because you should really work on your dynamics and stamina if people only can hear your snare if its triggered -.-
THe thing about snare triggering is that it should be used as an auxiliary, and not a centerpiece, of a drummers tone. Its impossible to be completely consistent with velocity at 250 bpm... but triggering a snare helps give it a feeling of consistency in a live environment. Ultimately, the skill of the drummer is apparent either way... imo.
I was looking at this video because I was wondering what Tony could do, as he is replacing Hellhammer at Dimmu Borgir's upcoming concert in Holland! He seems like a good replacement.
tony is a very very good drummer but from the videos ive seen where hes playing with 1349 he just cant match upto frost's status with speed and endurance.
I love how everyone has the nerve to call Tony Laureano a siht drummer. When most of them don't even play drums, and worse still, lionize that dunce Joey Jordison as "teh best drummer eva!!1!"
Tony Laureano is very underrated. Many people say he is just a generic death metal drummer. I dare you - listen to Sarcophagus (Nile) and tell me if his drumwork on that song is generic
when people will finally learn that trigger are actually a good thing ;)

Triggers are like little sensors/microphones that amplify the sound of your kick drum.
PSPmaster321 3 years ago
they dont amplify them, you can just amplify the kick tracks on the PA lol.
triggers turn the bass drum strokes into midi kick drums and the volume of them is more consistent so your strokes sound even.

Strange a lot of people here saying that tony is worst than hellhammer or george....when much of you don't even know how to play a simple drum kit...
And Dimmu Borgir, I have seen it with Tony , and he is much better and accurate than Hellhamer.
About Nicholas I've consider him on of the best of the world ( inside metal of course ) speed and double bass is not the most important.
