How do you select a single face then expand selection to the whole UV shell in one press like that?

If you go in max under:
customize > customize user interface
and then under the keyboard tab, in the category "TexTools" you will find a entry called:
"Extend selection" or extend smartly extention depending on the version of textools.
Bind that command to a custom shortcut like ctrl + alt + e (e for extend) and use it from now on every time you are in the edit unwrap mode.
That macro script will either extend your face selection to shells or your edge selection to a loop selection.

I might write at some point some text based tutorials that are paced the way you read it.
This looks really amazing. It's kind of too bad that it goes so damned fast that I can't really follow much of it.
