it is an absolute shame what 8 straight years of relentless touring did to Steve's amazing voice...happens with age, but overuse too...it doesn't help having an ego maniac guitar player that never wants to take a break either...Neal is my favorite guitarist and a master of his instrument...but they should have toned down the touring...it's obvious Steve was suffering...but at least in 8 years they didn't cheat and lower the keys to the songs...They did for Arnel after only one stinkin tour:)
I saw an interview with Steve. It wasnt a bracelet,it was a watch and the damn thing hit the side of his head, grazing his eye.Yes,he did speak with the guy who was attempting to apologize.Steve declined to say whether or not he accepted the apology or continued to swear at him.Knowing Steve,I'm sure he was forgiving.
Just a bracelet? I'd be pissed too...but imagine if it was a larger projectile, like a beer bottle or something; then I think that's worth stopping the show for :P
Is there a video of this concert? I would of love to see what Steve did. It sounded like he said here hold this Neal and left the Stage. Did he go punch him?
This is what I don't get: At the beginning of the Frontiers tour, the tempos were at their "normal" studio versions. Then fast-foward to the US parts, and they are faster. The ROR tempos were even FASTER because Steve's voice started faltering--but during the Frontiers tour his voice sounded fine.
yes tell me about it lol. they started of in japan where as you know they played at the right speed and perrys voice seemed pretty good but as soon a they hit the US his voice changed. which seems wired maybe the plane back to the US was a bit delayed LMAO
LMFAO!! I think his voice was just "tired" on the US leg of the Frontiers tour, so they sped up the tempos so Steve didn't have to hold the notes out as long. He damaged his voice fon that tour, so from 1984 onwards, Perry's starting to sing with a raspy effect. By 1986, you can really hear the trouble in his voice.
@Gregsynth yeah, it seems that he wanted more of a huskier tone than he was use too, im assuming that you can tell that Steve has a certain voice character when singing Journey songs and a different one when he sings his solo work,
I remember Steve had a Q&A on his site a few years back . And the guy who did this wrote him about this . And Steve said he had thought about that night alot over time.
I read an article that during teh FTLOSM tour a guy called into the radio station claiming to be this person and his girlfriend just dumped him and returned the watch/bracelet and he threw it, but never meant to hit anyone...perry talked to guy... but it was offline....thanks for posting this---glad Steve kept singing!!!
This is probably why he finally just left entertaining, he was fed up with people making fun of him when he took his singing very seriously! Don't blame him at all!!
I love the way Steve got mad!! Good for him, he showed his strength on this one, and then for him to go on performing, showed he cared about the innocent people that loved him. It took guts to not just walk off the stage as I would have done!! Just love Steve, he is just a great person!!
Do you blame him on this one? That SOB threw a watch and hit him! I don't blame Steve for that one. IF I was in the audience, I would have punched this SOB myself!

No one can continually sing these melodies night after night. Happed to Steve P, Steve A, and Arnel will see the same.

Bull shit, of course Perrys voice wasn´t as clea, but far go enough to sing the songs slow, they just sped it up why the hell do i know.
Cinnamonvalley 3 years ago 3
Faster tempo=Less time holding notes, that's why they are so fast.
Gregsynth 2 years ago
They sped up all the songs on the Raised On Radio tour because Steve's Voice was wearing out. Just to let you know.
Gregsynth 3 years ago 2
it wasnt just the raised on radio tour. look at the frontiers tour that just as fast.

@Gregsynth well he was getting older and constant touring does damage a voice

@Gregsynth yeah but he still sounded great

Yeah, I agree he sounded soulful and powerful: But I hate the fact, that his "new" singing style damaged his voice!

Yeah, his voice was much raspier and chesty on "Street Talk" than Escape (and even Frontiers).
