Unhook door from opener first grip door down with vicegrips.Wife might not know you`re working on it.Don`t mess with bottom fixture unless you have tension off both cables via spring or springs.Been doorman for 32 yrs.,had many wives tell me to be careful.I said ,I know,I see all the blood and guts on door from Mr. Fixit.Even know some doormen with missing jaw and front teeth, broken fingers, broken ankles from being nocked off ladders.Old saying,Confucius say don`t be idiot!!!!!
Don't trust this old guy! This is a safer/easier way to replace rollers, especially if you have a cordless drill, but NEVER do this on the bottom bracket! That is attached to the springs, and may KILL YOU! Also, he used the wrong tool, which means that hinge is going to come loose and lose one of the panels. Trust me, I've had experience with that exact problem.
Why take that much time to do that? Some idiot is going to try and take off the bottom bracket to replace the roller and lose an eye. Take a pair of vice grips, put a bend in the track. As you bring the door down pop each roller out and replace with new one. Then as you bring the door up, set each roller in the track. The top two will have to be done with the door raised. Use vice grips again to flex the track and pop the top two out and same thing going in. All 10 done in 5 minutes.
rocket science it is not! the guy didn't even know to change out or at least straighten out the hinge and he should have but the roller in the outside hole.
Both guys comments are right. First use a socket and wrench usually needed for #2 hinge second from the bottom fastener. Most fasteners are either 3/8" or 7/16' heads. Also they nevered warned about not doing this on the bottom corner brackets that have the lift cables unless you want to loose a finger. Top roller replacement can also allow the top section to fall in backwards if you're not carefull. You don't save money if you harm yourself and have to seek medical help.
you put the roller in the wrong slot. garage doors utilize a wedge to seal the elements out. so if you have the right hinges on the rollers should get progressively farther away from the panel as you go up the door.
how the fuck did i get here from minecraft?
