  • i don't know what it is about your voice, but it is soo relaxing...stammer and all!

  • @cookiebella512 Thank you, kind words, R:)

  • Hi, I am a stammerer. Are you a stammerer too? Have you done a speech therapy in the past but you could not overcome your speech problem? Have you every wondered why? One of the most important reason is lack of practise.

So i decided to practise it with other stammerers. i am looking for people with whom i can practise and ofcourse they can practise their technique with me. If you are interested then we can do it over skype or sth. other. Practise makes man perfect. pls contact me.

  • @110ajayk Cool, thanks for your message. It certainly makes alot of difference having people who stammer around you because you can empathise with each other. I am a member of the British Stammering Association. Are you on Face book?

  • The Maguire programme is the best solution for people who stammer. several of my family members have been on it and are totally different people from coming off it. Its not a cure but it will let you communicate what you really want to say.

  • I KNOW TH PAIN OF THIS KIND OF THING I LIVE WITH THIS PAIN I AM STUTTER

  • I have just started studying Speech Therapy at University. I look forward to helping people with a stammer! Good luck to all of you!

    You can beat it!!!

  • @postproduction101 good luck to you too, it is a wonderful choice of career :)

  • arrrrrrgggggggggg i am too embaressed by this stammering i have got i stammer so much in school that even i cannot say my own name

i have also tried a speech therapist, been more than 8 months in treatment

but i still have the problem of repeating the words a lot and that much never before.

thank God i am very intelligent so people keep respect for me but i get nervous for my future and i am being made fun by my classmates of the ganster tye

  • @usmaniscool1 since you are having some tratment, I woudn't worry too much about the future because in my opinion when you get older people will just look pass the stammering and i guess by then you will not stammer as much as u do now just give it some time.

But in general i think people understand more about stammering and just look pass it

  • you know i stammer and i did learn to speak and control it expecially when i found night clubs at 16 and wanted to hook up with girls. i did find myself not talking as much and being labeled as the quite guy. don't let it get you down i dont i just deal with it and practice controlling it

  • U r not the only one who stammer..... means i also stammer when i speak........... its a nature way of speaking

  • @guiteful I think the statistics are about 1 in every 100, 1 quarter being men. There are probably more but some people hide it very well. R:)

  • i have a bad stamer

  • Bravo for stepping forward and adding another voice to stutterers everywhere!

I think it's sad that our problem is not given enough representation.. but your video made me consider that perhaps it's not the fault of the people who judge, but rather their lack of education on stuttering. I know I find it difficult to talk to someone who is deaf; I have nothing against that person but at the same time I do not know how to interact with them. Perhaps the same is true of others and us stutterers.

  • I think the problem with stutterers is that they focus too much attention on their mouth and how the words sound coming out of their mouth. When people speak there should always be a LISTENER. People speak to express thoughts and its pointless speaking unless theres someone there to LISTEN to them and understand what they mean. Too many people out there dont listen. Instead they just stand in front of them while they blabber away just waiting for them to shut up so they can speak.

  • I have a chruch friend back in Oklahoma and his name is Brett also and I always have trouble saying his first name.

  • Thing is I have no trouble saying Brent or Brad or anything, but Brett is a tough one. Probably cos it's not a very common name so you have to be sure to say it clearly so people know exactly what my name is. When I start to say Bre.. they could instinctively assume its Brent or something.

  • I've stammered for many years, this was a great video, thanks.

  • Thank you :)

  • i stutter too, but its really bad when im reading, as a child i used to stutter with my head jerking backing and forth just like my father....stuttering is in my family...its real tough...i wanted to be an actor but was too ashamed of my speech

  • I used to be in a position to hire people - I would have gladly considered hiring somebody with a stammer. I am surprised at how employers seem to be so prejudiced against dysfluent speech.

  • I stutter and when people don't know that you stutter they tend to think it's funny but when they realise you really do stutter you can tell that they are alittle ashamed of thinking it was funny... but I guess you can't blame them for not knowing but it shouldn't make you afraid of doing certain things or first and foremost talking to people cause if you don't talk they'll never know right?

  • I understand.

  • I sometimes stammer tooo...

  • i also have a stammer too

  • i have a stammer too

  • I tend to stammer too

  • Sometimes i stammer..but i only do it when i read..hows that??

  • its probably cuz when u talk u make up words when u read u cant change up words, i stammer more when i read too

  • I had a very, very bad stammer but now I have been offered a place at one of the top drama schools in the country to be trained as an actor.

It hasnt prevented me doing anything, if anything it has helped me to stay motivated.

I don't see it as "suffering"

  • The same kind of story the world over.

  • i stutter, and when someone is laughing at me when im telling stories im like

"did he laughed to my stutter or mah joke?"

    xD

  • best wishes to all who suffer

  • ive had a stammer since i can remember i could't say to words untill i was 24.and now im 39 married with six kids and a good job. im dyslecick and my iQ is higher than the adverage person.apart from that i love life and hate telephone's

  • Character counts in so many ways. Any one who finds themselves having to struggle in life know this. We can only learn from one another.

    Regards Paul

  • as i said to speakingout2 , i have a stammer since i been 7 . i am in the british army . the application process was long due to my stammer but now it dont stop me in my day to day work .

  • good job!

  • I like to hear people that stammer

  • my little nephew whos 6 has a very bad stammer but hes getting help and is in mainstream school i wish you well Rachel[by the way lovley name i wanted that name]

  • keep going rachel, mine used to b bad but has gotten less bad sibce i grow up anf now i only get it if i don't think before i speak.

but ive ignored people who think there something mentally wrong with me. i often put them in their place by mentioning i'm actually in the top college in Ireland and in a long term relationship with an amazing man.

  • hey their is nothing wrong with you dont let pepole put you down your probely 20 times better than them [im part irish too where abouts in Irland are you from] and i wish you luck too

  • good luck rachel been there and done it and i have still a stammer which i can control now , so hang in there .

  • I admire you .

There are many techniques that stammerers can be taught to use which enable you to control or make easier the blocks that are the cause of problems.

Its a fact that the general public wrongly seem to think that people who stammer are also in some way mentally deficient.

The deficiently lies in those who think stammering is funny and should be made fun of.

Sadly , i dont think the publics perception of the problem will ever change.

  • Great to see your video, Rachel! You really do have something to say - not only to those people who don't stammer, but to those who do, by showing how one can get on with a happy and successful life, despite the frustrations and the prejudices. The more that people hear us talk, the more they will understand and the more they will open doors to us. Good luck in all you do!
