she did just fine, i actually love all her videos haha. And whipping a horse doesnt hurt it as bad as most non horse people think. They have thick skin, and its hard for someone to do any damage to them with a tiny little flexible stick. Also horses get adrenalin (sp?) just like we do and you know how that is. Trust me, shes not abusing her horse.

ive seen ppl not hold the horn, and thier good, just better balance i guess, personally i think barrel horse r crazy, the rider are rought on thier mouths, spur/whip hard..no offense

I loved that paint you rode. BEAUTIFUL!! Sometimes holding the horn can help you keep your balance, or stay on the saddle. Sometimes the horse turns too fast to stay on. I saw a video where several ppl fell off when the horse turned.

i hate holding the saddle horn in my oppinion it throws u off balance more than it helps bcuz when u hold onto that ur also moving with the saddle then but if u use ur les to hold on by putting ur weight in ur sturrips then u can stay on a lot easier

If you don't have to hold the saddle horn then you are probably not going fast enough or turning hard enough. Watch the ladies at the NFR....no one goes around the barrels with 2 hands at the professional level!

yes honey u can hold on without using the saddle horn not everybody uses it my horse has a lot of blue ribbons in barrel racing he goes fast enough but if u know how ur horse turns and how he works then u can move with him and not get thrown off

@jrdenapoli Im not sure about the fast enough thing. My friend rides a horse on a larger pattern than this which the record time is a 16. and she runs 16's and 17's. She only holds onto the horn in turns but when running home she has either one hand one the reins and one on her side, or one on the reins and another whipping. When I hold onto the horn while galloping It doesn't feel right, I only hold while turning and my horse has pretty good speed.

Putting more weight in the stirrups puts more unneeded pressure on your horses back, you don't want that.

The arenas in the south are all different sizes. They make the pattern to fit the size of the pen so you almost never run on a standard pattern. Some arena are so small 12.8 seconds will win it. Makes it tough if you have a real setty horse!

I love it. Florida had over 800 barrel racers in their NBHA state show this year. Even small jackpots seem to get around 80 entries. They have tons of Pro rodeos and open rodeos and a lot of super shows close by.

The first horse is having too much pressure put on his/her mouth.

Funny you should say that...he has nothing in his mouth. I ride him in a quick stop and if you put to much pressure on one of those your horse will stop or through his head in the air to get away from it. We out ran close to 400 riders 3 days in a row to finish 5th in the 1D average so I must be doing something right.
