  • My son is almost 2 years old and he is unable to talk due to seizures (infantile spasms) and related neurological impairments. He doesn't chew food yet, so speaking will take hm longer to learn, and the doctors and therapists have suggested sign language. If you can suggest any books, dvds or websites please contact me!

  • This is amazing I am seven months pregnant with my first son and my husband and I really want to do this with him, where do we start?

  • Congratulations!! please feel free to send me an email and I'll send you some great links on how to get started. You Tube doesn't allow site postings here in the comment section. I am always happy to answer questions so please feel free to email me.

  • This is amazing! great job, and Fireese is so cute! (please ignore the name..im on my brothers computer!)

  • Amazing! I am very impressed not only at her ablility but how cute she is too!! You are doing the best job i have ever seen in a child of this age... way beats my son who knows about 12 signs lol! Great job little one AND your mama.

  • That was so cute! I have a three month old andI am hopeing to learn to teach him to sign. I just dont know if its too early. You seem like a really great mommy. any tips on when to start him on signing.

  • Thank you :-)

I started signing with my daughter when she was four months old and she didn't start signing back until she was 9.5 months old. You can start as early as you'd like, the important thing is to be consistent when you sign and to keep it up! Please feel free to email me for more signing advice!

    Laura

  • First of all, your daughter has to be one of the cutest things I have ever seen, and her attention span is simply amazing!

I'm also impressed with her spoken vocabulary as well. I don't believe signing with babies delays speech, but signing debates aside, her vocabulary is definitely impressive for a 15-month old.

I am getting my ASL certificate, and I think your videos are great. Hopefully they will help to spread the word about how awesome Baby Sign can be!

  • Wow! Thank you for your comment.

    Laura

  • can you tell me where you bought those cards for your baby please?

  • I bought the cards through the Sign2Me website, just google Sign2Me and you'll find them. There are many great flashcards that you can buy. If you send me an email I can give you a list of recommendations.

    Laura

  • Amazing.... I have a child with autism and I have been working with him on sign language. He will actually sit and watch your videos. He can memorize them the minute he sees it. You have taught him a lot through this and I wanted to say thanks.

  • Wow! Thank you for your comment, you have made my day!!

I'll try to keep posting for him :-)

    Laura and Fireese

  • she's so cute ^^!!!

  • this is awesome!!!! I want to teach my child in the future sign language.

  • it's so amazing to watch. just: WOW!

  • Can a baby begin learn ASL at 6 mos?

  • Yes, I've heard to babies at 6 months making the sign for milk. I started with my daughter when she was 4 months and she started signing back when she was 9.5 months. :-)

  • Im Impressed !

    Great job, she's soo sweeeeet

    thank you very much

God bless her, my kisses to her

  • Im studying for my degree right now and your beautiful daughter has a much longer attention span than I do. This is so impressive. Ive never thought about teaching children to sign but it seems to me that she is a very intelligent child and will do incredibly well at school because of all the attention her development has already been getting. I think you're obviously a very good mum

  • THANK YOU!!! :-)

  • gatta be the best child i ever saw

  • wow. reeaalllyy good for a baby. i was following allowing brushing up on my ASL 1. haha

  • i´m really impressed. great job!! really nice video, gorgeous child!

  • aww! im inpressed.

  • i am au pair in england at the moment, and we do sign language, too. we visit a weekly sing and sign group. its amazing how your daughter keeps concentrated, i have never seen a child responding so well to sign language =)

  • she makes me cry goddddddddd blesssss her

  • Hi that's amazing. DO you know any good book about this? In order to teach children to use this sign language? I would really appreciate it! thanks!

  • The book that I used was "Sign with your Baby" by Dr. Garcia. It tells you how to sign with your baby and shows a number of signs to use. Thanks for your comment :)

  • THanks a lot! I'm a preschool teacher opening my own preschool and daycare center, and I will love to get my teachers to learn and apply that with the little ones. I have another quick question (i'm sorry!) do u know if there's any workshop or course or something i can attend and get some kind of certificate? THanks!!again..

  • Sign2Me is a great company. If you have any other questions please feel free to send me an email. Laura

  • she is very cute and definitely very very smart....

  • Your baby looks so patient in learning the signs and she looks like she really enjoys it:) I study at the university of Amsterdam, developmental psychology and im looking forward in doing some more research in this department, because it looks like it really works especialy children who are less vocal on a younger age and get very frustrated from not being able to comunicate. thnx for the post!

  • in melbourne, have u been to melb?

  • yes I have, I stayed there before going over to Tazmania. It is very similar to Toronto, Canada. I really liked it there!

  • Thanks for ur information laura, i bought a book called " Baby signing for dummies", its a good book, they use ASL, but its ok for beginning, even though we live in Australia

  • I LOVE Australia :) I used to live there and I've backpacked it twice. Where in Australia do you live?

  • i love it how she says the word and she does the sign at the same time, very smart!

  • i definitely will teach my baby the sign language, she'sonly 7 mth now, when do u started ur baby sign language?

  • all of the research says that you should start around 8 months old because the child then has the memory capacity to retain what they learn. however, i starting signing to my son when he was a day old. he is now 20 months and knows 50+ signs. i recommend flash cards like the one used in this video because it also reinforces word recognition; my son knows on sight almost all of the 50+ signs that he knows.

  • Sorry I didn't get back to you earlier, I've been away. You can start siging with your baby at any age. I started at 4 months but she didn't sign back until she was 9.5 month old. By the time she was one she had a vocabulary of over 50 words. She is now one and a half and speaks in full sentences. Now is the perfect time to start! If you have any more questions please feel free to email me. Laura

  • whow, amazing!

  • Aww Dats cute sign! =]

  • i think i have seen every video you have posted. you have done this girl an amazing service by helping her exercise her mind at such a young age...oh man this is soooo amazing! now I wish i could sign so i could teach my kids one day!

  • Thank you! :) You don't need to know sign langauge to teach your baby, you can easily learn as you go along. You start by teaching them basic signs that you can easily learn and as they get older you can add more complicated signing if you wish. But it is a nice way to bond with your baby and learn a new cool language at the same time :) Laura

  • I decided to start to learn ASL myself, I think that your concept of starting ASL with speech is a great idea and I am honestly impressed. I have watched several fo your videos and just want to say keep up the good work.

  • Thank you for your comment :)

  • that's pretty impressive. was it hard for her to pick up signing when you first started teaching her? how old was she when you first started teaching her?

  • I started early, around 4 months and she didn't sign back until she was 9.5 months. She only signed a few signs at first and then her ability to pick up signs exploded! Now I only have to show her a sign once. Thanks for your comment :)

  • at evening schools(open for everyone, but the test lesson I took part in wasn't suitable f.toddlers&smaller children;are there any books I could get?I'd really like to learn this method(working as a babysitter, child is almost 1 yr.,gets extremely angry if she's not understood,SL could really change a lot).Greetings, Manuela

  • Hi Laura, first of all,I'd like to say that I simply LOVE every video you're posting here,Fireese is just awesome! An extraordinary name, where does it come from?As I am living in Germany,I was wondering how I could get in contact with SL teachers, esp.for kids, over here?I know of some programs that are offered

  • what a cutie! i cant believe how much im learning from your little one :]

  • I am truly astonished by Fireese! Im only 20 so i don't have any children at this stage but i am inspired to teach them to sign when i do have them. Having a baby that can sign as well as speak is just like having a bi-lingual child. Fireese is extremely blessed to have parents that are dedicated whole-heartedly to giving her what i consider the best of both worlds!! She is also a gorgeous wee girl! I look forward to seeing her further development in the world of signing.

  • Thank you for your nice comment! :) Laura and Fireese

  • How many signs does your daughter know now? Are you planning on updating us?

  • The most amazing thing now is she can say her alphabet from start to finish (l m n o p run together but she knows them all). When she says them she tries to finger spell them. I'll post this video soon.

  • she is learning so much! her signing has improved and become clearer because she can open her fingers more. I loved how she remembered "cracker" which shows just how good she is at remembering and also making sentences with singing like "baby's happy"....great job!

  • Thank you for all of your comments on my videos :)

  • This message is for hapav...I'm not sure what happened to your comment?!? I approved it yet it doesn't show up. I would suggest any product from sign2me or sign babies or anything by Monta Briant. you can search any of these on amazon. If you have any more questions please feel free to email me. Laura

  • I'd just like to say thank you for uploading these videos. I can't help but *try to sign along with you. What a beautiful, intelligent baby you have!

  • She's so adorable, such a cutie pie. I'm taking sign in high school. I love it and have learned so much. My teacher had a difficult time with the schol discrict to recognize it as a foreign language but he did it. Definitely plan to use it on my children when i have some.. Hopfully I can keep it up.

  • Thanks for your comment :) Good for your teacher to fight to get ti recognized in your school district! What city are you in? I am on a support board to get ASL recognized as a foreign language where I am!

  • I go to Monte Vista High School In Danville, CA its about 40 mins from Fremont. The school district is San Ramon Valley Unified School District..

  • OMG! This is soo cool!

  • I'm glad these were uploaded, at 15, learning sign language as a third language can be tough. But I'm learning signs here that I haven't learned yet in ASLII. Thanks!

  • LOL love the sign for milk XD

  • I too love these videos. I love seeing my idea of an ideal parent being lived out.

  • I am love with these vids!! She is sooo patient, I cannot believe she sits there for so long!! And I love hearing babies talk, so cute!

  • I love these videos. It really shows how much sign increases vocab. awesome. Shes such a beautiful baby.
