This just popped out of nowhere and smacked us all in the face in '63... debuted at number 4 and the week after was at number 1 ! BIG SUPRISE considering it didnt even crack the top 100 in the US, i wonder who the girls are who sing on the track?
This song was played frequently on all the Honolulu radio stations back in 1963! Thank you for posting this wonderful memory of living in our 50th State!
Five stars! It’s so strange that this highly creative song with its catchy, thrumming beat swept through Australia but barely made a ripple beyond. I was a child captivated by it, remembering that it providentially appeared on radio in Australia at around the same time as the 1962 version of Mutiny on the Bounty starring Trevor Howard & Marlon Brando, but was not from that film. Since then, I’ve searched for it, not knowing its name, performer or composer. How I now love Google!
Not just the Aussies! From the UK I can remember this song twirling aroung in the early 60's on our record player. My dad was a merchant seaman and brought it home with him and I would think all of our family will remember listening to this song. Thanks so much for posting and for the memories!
Not just the Aussies! My dad was a merchant seaman and mum and my brothers and sisters will all vividly remember this spinning on our old record player. Many memories, thanks so much for posting!
I am so thrilled that you posted this lovely song from the 60's. Mind you I was just a child, but I do vividly remember this song being played on the radio at the time.
Tamouré WONDERFUL :) thanks so much!
Australia; Menzies; twilight of Empire; it was a very very heady Pacific cocktail.

So true. I always thought that the lyrics were, "...binty, binty, binty, batta, batta, batta, ah gouré..."
