  • Love it! Written by Rolf Harris in 1962 and co-written with the later-renowned Australian naturalist an TV personality Harry Butler. Recorded by Alice in 1971.

  • Cruel, I was born early 60ies

  • This has to be from the Detroit area, Aquinas High School in Southgate, the East Town Theater in Detroit or another venue from the very early seventies, even before "I'm Eighteen" was released.

  • @Incivilius

Of-course, saw a performance of Alice hitting the stage with a hammer at Aquinas HS, on the Easy Action tour!!!

  • @michelesaintthomas Ya know Michele, I tell people that (about the hammer), and they blame the drugs I'm on!!!! lol! Sun Arise was the opening song, but you knew that. Too bad about Buxton (RIP). I think Vince could have named himself and the group "Bud Wiser", and still hit the charts - but of course, they would have been one hit wonders like the "Frijid Pink". Did you see the "Who" when they played Southfield High School as the opening act for The Amboy Dukes?

  • @Incivilius Eighteen was released on the Love It To Death album this song was also.

  • again. Lung sounds here.... one of the reasons I turned to music....for a career...never made any money yet though

  • what year is this from?

  • Congrats Vince on getting into the HOF!

  • Este tema es muy simple pero se me pegó en la cabeza a full <3 !!!

  • I saw this tour concert Borough Of York Stadium, Toronto at a festival called "Beggars Banquet" Alice was hitting the floor with a hammer while he sang this.

  • @rollingold1

Yes, that is the same manner that he introduced the song at Aquinas HS near Detroit, prior to Toronto.

  • The original band still kicks more ass than anyone Alice has worked with since...They had a great unpolished sound that was soon to disappear to make Alice the star...

  • @GonzoGuyy

    Hi Gonzo Guy,

I am in complete agreement with you on this, the original Alice Cooper backing band was incredible!!!

  • Rolf is proud

  • THANK U FOR POSTING!!

  • Got to meet Alice briefly at Cooperstown in Phoenix....what a great dude...been a fan for 30 years...first seen him in 82 for the Special Forces tour...

  • Wasn't around when he did his early shows. Great to see him and the original lineup!

  • Alice doing Rolf Harris I love it!!!

  • Someone tell me where everyone gets these great clips from 69 and the 70's????

  • @ClassicRockKills - They get these clips from 69 and the 70's from 1969 and the 1970's - !

Where else can they get em? From 2010?

  • where do they get thes old clips

  • saw them do this in 1970 at a little club in minneapolis called "The Depot" a good time was had by all!!!!

  • Was the opening act for John Mayall when I first saw him....started the show with this song.

  • It`s better than the original but it`s the least song from Love it to death

  • love it to death is one of their greatest albums and they were even better live

  • He´s funny. I love him ;)

  • That's what makes it so perfect though.

  • Dennis Dunaway, Whoo!

  • awesome. One of my favorites......sunrise

  • Read that Rolf is hopping mad- Womanizer by Britney plagiarizes his classic hit,Sun Arise!!!!!

  • really. I havent listened to the song. But if that is true. It gives me something to bag out brittney fans. lol

  • Just saw him at Fort McCoy in August, and at 60 1/2 he STILL has it. If you get the chance see him. He did this on Aug 15th and it was even better than in 88

  • wow i am gonna go and see him at his new tour this year. Front seat tickets!

  • I got lucky..Going to Montreux in July and have front row center stage ticket a bit later on! Been waiting for this since 1973

  • NICE

    Have fun buddy

  • Just surfing for some Alice to spend Halloween with, and came across this. This footage must be amazingly rare -- thanks for sharing it! I'm thrilled to have seen it. People now are like, shrug, whatever, but can you imagine what the crowd thought when HE walked out on stage of a club for the 1st time way back then??! He was the original (and he's still got it).

  • thanks for posting it dude

  • Oh thats brilliant.I only ever heard Rolf Harris sing this song ! Imagine Rolf Harris and Alice Cooper singing the same song !

  • The video quality here may be atrocious...but the audio more than compensates! Listen to Neal Smith's crashing drums on the intro...so much more fierce than on the album. I wish I had been born 15 yrs earlier to have seen these guys live. They definitely sound better live than on record and were meant to be enjoyed that way. Love the raw quality here, complete with feedback every so often. It doesn't get any better.

  • what a wonderfully wierd number to open a set with. go, dennis!

  • I've always loved this song - its indeed overlooked. I'd like to know the origin of it. Somewhere I heard the lyrics were from an old mountain song from a long time ago.

  • Australian .way before Alice Cooper could sing most prob (if he can)..He doesnt do it justice

  • It was written by Rolf Harris and Harry Butler. Their take on an old aboriginal song.

I doubt the kooris ever made a cent out of it.

  • We did get firewater and smallpox infected blankets, sadly after that more than fair exchange all Aboriginal music became very blues based.

  • I just heard the Rolf Harris version just now. This is an awesome twist on a folk song. The original Alice Cooper band was way ahead of their time (or behind, either way misunderstood and underrated).

  • Pretty damn cool. Thanks much.

  • this is one of his many incredible and overlooked songs

  • Yeah...but it's a cover.

  • First concert I ever went to started with Leslie West and Mountain - Headlined Alice. He started with this song. My favorite ever since. Most memorable because they performed in the basement of COBO Hall During the Auto Show - We all sat on the floor. Greqt memories of the early seventies.

    "I don't remember much about the 70's"

    John Sebastian to Al Bundy

  • you r the only one who has this, i been lookin , even alice doesnt, thanks

  • I have this. Not on here though but on DVD. It's from "The Sunshine Inn" in Ashbury Park.

  • I just love that the Alice Cooper group covered Rolf Harris before he went on to cover Led Zeppelin... then Led Zeppelin covered 'Sun Arise' (live) as a bit of comedy back at Rolf... If you've missed out on the auditory treat that is Rolf, you can find him here... /watch?v=KJleJbn9G6Y (add the youtube bit, they don't like URLs! )

  • Sweet, thanks for posting this rare item! Love it!

  • He had the "sunburst" kind of style of eye mascara back then. Changed it later.

  • Awesome. thanks!

  • Thanks, freakin' great!!!

  • I can't believe I forgot to include Neil in my Post ...

    sorry Neil

  • That was so freekin sweet!! The band is so good on that one. I love to see early Cooper vids, it brings me back to my childhood in 1973 when I wanted to see them soo bad but was only in 4th grade and too young to go to the concerts. I am finally after years of waiting, getting to see my childhood idols when they were in their prime. Alice,Mike,Glenn & Dennis were the best memorys of growing up. THANKS for posting these wonderfull videos. I am forever greatfull.

  • Yeah!

  • Thanks a lot for posting this!!! I'm still looking for the Detroit Tubeworks version of this tune. Alice started it out on his hands and knees, beating on the bottom of the mic stand with a hammer.
