Me and my Dad always laugh so much at this bit, not only at Sellers, but the music itself if simply hilarious, one day he looked at me and said: "Who ACTUALLY sat down and wrote this compostion?"
Does anyone know if the music used here has a name? It sounds like some sort of classical piece, and for whatever reason, I have been able to remember the tune instantly. If it does have a name, I would really appreciate knowing it.
@googlemeister94 After some research, I found that the song is called: "The Inspector Clouseau Theme (From the Pink Panther Strikes Again)". Believe it or not, it's available on itunes (For once).
Yes, that's Henry Mancini - one of the greatest film composers of past century. John Williams played the piano in his band, but back then they just called him Johnny ;) You can find couple other very famous pieces by Mancini if you Google him
The stunt doubles were necessary because Peter Sellers' heart condition already was very bad during the time they shot this movie, four years before his untimely death in 1980. I read somewhere he was very weak at times, so they decided to have many scenes shot without him.
Oh man, this still makes me cry laughing. I saw this at the cinema during the 70's and it made me cry then, and I'm crying now. Sellars was a brilliant comic actor.
The pleasant but plodding music is just perfect for this scene, too. Henry Mancini was as much a genius as sellers, the combination making such a classic scene, character, movie and series. God, they don't make them like this anymore - silliness with.... class.
The music just makes it that much more funny... I think im turning blue because I can't breathe... laughing too dang hard

@clouseau186 I just wish there were more of us. We need clouseau188, 189, 190, 191 and so on to bring our clouseau army to its maximum power.

Love the look on his face when the draw bridge is coming down and Clouseau is trying to paddle backwards. Sellers was a genius. RIP

To which I replied with: "A genius, father!"
His reply: "Agreed!"

Thanks so much for posting probably the funniest scene of Sellers as the bumbling moustached karate chopping idiot and genius as Clouseau. Brilliant.

No problem, this is my favorite scene of the movie.

Fantastic clip. Slapstick when done right is unbeatable. Always remember that it was used on the news back in1980 when Sellers died.

Peter Sellers Pink Panther > Steve Martin Pink Panther, personally this one and Revenge of the Pink Panther are definitely my favorites.

"Swine moat!"
I remember almost dying with laughter the first time I saw this as a kid.
Also love the interrogation scene earlier in this film:
- "But that's a priceless Steinway!!"
- "Not any more".
