I'VE SEEN BETTER GRAPHICS ON THE SEGA GENESIS VERSION UNFORTUNATELY YOU GET TO PLAY WITH THE FIGHTER & THE MAGE NOT THE PRIEST & THE NINJA LIKE IN THE ARCADE VERSION & THE TURBOGRAFX-16 WHICH HAS ALL 4 CHARACTERS
@Nightowljrm Pray to google my friend. The 16 was a marketing thing, and it had two 8-bit graphics chips (16 bit graphics) but only one 8-bit CPU, same as the NES and Master System. That's why its gameplay and physics seem closer to the 8-bit machines, because it wasnt truly 16-bit.
Hey! The fact she can wipe in different directions is a huge plus! The AVGN would be proud. Castlevania 4 was the only one that let you do that.
Does attacking in multiple directions apply to the other characters because I was actually think about buying a Turbo Grafx sometime in the future, if only for Working Designs games.
I agree Turbografx had better versions of all the games that appeared on both TG16 and Genesis. What killed them was the idea that they weren't "truly" 16-bit. This no-brain smear pretty much killed it for people my age. The industry press at the time was obssessed with "bits" as though that was the only mark of the power of a system. So while Genesis had dull-looking games, and an incomprehensible controller, it destroyed the TG simply through much better marketing in the US.
Did you just say that SEGA has an "incomprehensible" controller and dull games? You need to check your facts. The SEGA Genesi/Megadrive controller is touted to be one of the best designed controllers in game history. Also, as a collector there are a huge library of games some of which never made it to North America. The problem was that the Turbo-Grafx 16 hardware was not very popular at all. You will remember that both Nintendo and SEGA had huge ad campaigns as well. NEC did not!
Yeah sorry, the Genesis controller sucks. That's why no one else ever made another one like it. Even Sega didn't.
I'm not going to get in a TG vs Genesis flame war in 2009 though.
NEC did have a decent advertising budget the first couple of years. This is why the TG is relatively well known compared to other consoles that did not do so well.
It is a fact that SEGA test-launched the GENESIS two weeks before NEC. It is a fact that the launch was accompanied by an ad campaign mocking NEC's claim that the TurboGrafx-16 was the first 16-bit console. The Genesis came with only one controller, but it provided a port for a second; the TG-16 only had one controller port but could buy the Turbo Tap yo play multitple games.
The Genesis originally came with the impressive arcade port of Altered Beast (1989). the TG-16' came Keith Courage in Alpha Zones (1989), a dull action platform game that did not show off the capabilities of the console. There were very good games for the TG-16 but from what I remember, they were not advertised properly. And lastly, the Genesis controller is very form fitting controller compared to the TG-16 controller. SEGA later developed a silmiar controller for the Saturn.
As you already mentioned, the Turbo Grafx-16 was very rarely featured in mainstream media. I remember very few Turbo Grafx-16 commercials featured on the television. My personal belief is that NEC did not market the system very well. In my personal opinion they lost the console war due to a very poor media campaign.

Not really a "complete" playthrough, the way you keep cutting.

This game looks a whole lot uglier on this system, the bright colours are hurting it. On the Genesis it looks rather pretty and eye friendly.
This looks rather 8-bit to me, fucking weak; you people are ridiculous.

There were already Many MAME versions posted. The TG16 is a unique port and has some advantages over the arcade version.

@ownzilla Strange opinions dude. Turbografx was great for an 8bit console, but the Genesis is a terrific console with the greatest controller ever!

@bencheshire : The Turbografx-16 is a sixteen-bit console. Hence the name. Are you really that dense? o.O
