@bleachmaster101 I play the violin but from my point of view some more difficult slurs on the D string to the A string are just more easily played in second position. If you try to change strings all together during a slur, it doesnt always turn out so good and makes a rather unappealing sound

Definitely one of my favorites... Apo at their best. The sweet poetic sound of the cello mixed with the hazing background amplification and drums makes a sound unlike anything I have much heard before. The only other songs of theirs that rank with 'Quutamo' for the poetic sound for me are 'Hope vol. 1&2' 'Farewell' and 'Somewhere Around Nothing.' I miss Antero... He made Quutamo soooooooo good.

According to Wikipedia, Antero Manninen was one of the original members of Apocalyptica. The classically trained cellists, Eicca Toppinen, Maxs Lilja, Antero Manninen and Paavo Lotjonen met and formed the band in 1993. Manninen left the band in 1999 and was replaced by Perttu Kivilaakso. Max Lilja left the band afterwards and Mikko Siren joined the band as the band's permanent drummer. It seems Antero Manninen plays with them when requested.

no, from 2003 on antero was always the 4th live cellist. but this year he had to go back to his orchestra so they only have the 3 official cellists playing live right now.

He toured with them up until April of 09, taking an extended leave from his real job, playing with the Lahti Symphony Orchestra. But he had to go back to the orchestra (i dont know the exact reason) after april, so now he only plays in live shows with apocalyptica if one of the members cant make the show (like when perttu was hospitalized not long after antero went back to his orchestra)

It may be easy to play, but it is hard to play it well. There are many simple songs that look easy on the sheet but are harder to play in reality. Like Camille Saint-Saens's "The Swan", for example. Easy notes to play through but when it comes to playing it with deep and satisfying sound, it is completely different story. ;)
